Does this mean he’s disavowing Jesus of Suburbia and Forever Now? It’s like he’s undergone a personality change. He also said he doesn't like rock bands trying to write "the feel good song of the year" and even called himself out for doing it. A lot of songs on RevRad were "feel good" rock songs. 2 Quote

You would think the opposite and that they'd want to beef up a 26 min album. They're definitely holding on to some material. Without a doubt! He wrote something like 54 songs for 21stCB if I remember correctly, and like 30 for Rev Rad. If this is a troll release like it seems to be, he probably made a bunch of short garage rock bangers and saved the higher quality stuff for their own releases. Not to knock the stuff that might be on FOAMF (lightly judging based on the first single), I like the sound well enough. But I think he's for sure written better songs than it in general. 3 1 Quote

Everything about it is just confusing. It doesn't feel like Green Day. Billie not liking long songs when literally every GD project since AI has had at least 1 song that's 6+ minutes. It would've made sense if he was like "I haven't felt like writing long songs right now" or something like that but "I hate long songs" is so out of character for him 13 Quote

Popular Post BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 11, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2019 This era has weird vibes not unlike trilogy, but with trilogy things just didn't click, while now it looks like purposeful trolling. Or maybe it's too early to say. This is either absolutely awesome or a beginning of something terrible but so far it looks fun. 8 Quote
DookieLukie Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 Thought: Could the copied album art be a reference to what Bowie did with The Next Day and Heroes? 1 Quote

Maybe he hates long songs because Warner probably "hates long songs" also and wants them to put out short...radio friendly songs? Maybe he's being sarcastic. Total guess but the whole vibe from today makes it sure as hell feel that way. 6 1 Quote

Popular Post DookieLukie Posted September 11, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2019 Billie also reference American Idiot on Zane Lowe and said how our current world made the time of AI look calm. Maybe the artwork is a commentary on that: AI but more chaos. 5 Quote

Just from the interview and how BJ seems kind of negative about warner bros and this album has ties to that, it could be viewed as a "wtf" moment for GD. Quote

BUBBYBUB Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I love the cover i think it makes a statement. Like with walmart trying to scensor their records, the issue with political correctness and the peice of the AI album shows that the relevence is still there 15 years later, just a different idiot Just now, BUBBYBUB said: I love the cover i think it makes a statement. JReevz Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I wonder if we’ll get any more songs from the album tonight at the show considering how short the entire project is Quote
Pansyhunter Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 (edited) The thing that I don't really like about this as a GD fan is how on the fence I am about getting tickets for a show. The new album being odd makes me already wary, and paying for a show that's two other bands besides GD that I have to drive 4-5 hours for and presumably pay at least 200 to get good seats....Seeing them for the first time in 2017, I was 100 percent sure I wanted to go, but now I'd feel like I'd be buying a ticket just to see GD again. Which could be worth it? Agh, this is so confusing. Part of it too is that when I bought tickets for 2017, I had heard the new album already and really enjoyed it (and obviously wanted to see them live.) But in this case fans have to buy the tickets before even getting to hear the full (short) album. Eh Edited September 11, 2019 by Pansyhunter (Wanted to add more context) 2 Quote
Stefano Bras Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 My heart wants to believe the Magnus Opus/ Warner theory is true, but my brain tells me is probably halfway right. Probably they DID deliberately made the album short and easy going just to quickly finish their contract with Warner and focus on more serious music later, but I don’t seen them leaving on bad terms with them. I mean obviously they are glad of leaving, they’re finally able to go to Otis and have that creative freedom and to record whatever they want, when they want, rather than having a major label pressuring their shoulders, it’s just a better deal. So probably the album cover, title and that cringey text from Billie to the d a И g e r o u s k I d z is 100% real in terms of them thinking it’s cool and fun instead of mocking Warner. Which sucks. 1 Quote
Signe Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I feel disappointed. The song is terrible and the artwork is so off putting and not even in a cheap kind of way... its just ugly and embarrasing. I wont buy a copy of it. I will get the digital of Course, but anyway. honestley, what the fuck happened? Is there a stroke we didnt know about? Are they ill? Revrad is not my favorite album, but its a good album. It had dignity. This is just... terrible? 4 Quote
