Calling the lyrics lazy or meaningless doesn’t seem fair to me. Artist is the one shapes his work with his own point of view so it always depends on him. You may not like it but it doesn’t mean he is careless or not being honest

I was slowly getting more on board with this after Oh Yeah! and now seeing the lyrics... this is definitely going to be like the trilogy for me. It’s gonna take some getting used to but I’ll ultimately like it a lot. 
 

Except FRA. I still can’t stand that song. I haven’t listened to the live version but it’s the only new Green Day single since I started listening during the AI that I haven’t put on repeat at some point.

Yeah, I definitely see it as an deliberate artistic choice, reading the lyrics now I can see the lyrical inspiration he took from artists like Kendrick Lamar, like he explained in interviews. I didn't know about the link between the Madonna Inn and Eco's book, but now that you pointed out, it's an interesting point, and while they probably didn't use it thinking about that essay, it shows the association some people make of kitschy aesthetic and ugly imagery, kinda like The Shining also used a lot of maximalist and colorful rooms to contrast the gory scenes.

Yeah, exactly, it's the fancy party and lavishness that topples into the disgusting. Madonna Inn is a perfect place for that. The Shining comes to mind, and maybe also Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.

Oh I'm sorry, I can't read. Yeah, you're right. It's not lazy, it's just a choice to write in a simple way and maybe eventually that can convey meaning better than more complicated writing. Plus if the idea is that these songs are meant to be raw, it's necessary.
