If there is a Sept 6 single it could be dropped without an announcement or they could announce it just a week ahead. If there is a show at a small club like the Whiskey it may not be announced until a day or two before (at most maybe the same day the single drops)

Then it came out and sounded about as far from Kerplunk as you can get. So, not buying into any bs hype here.
