¡Nunes! Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Based on the songs rumored to belong to Cigarettes and Valentines I believe this would be GD weakest album (and album title). That's why I disagree with people that say Billie is only writting bad lyrics now and his "prime" is gone. I'm confident he may surprise us with great lyrics as I believe he did on Trilogy ( X-Kid, Brutal Love, etc) and RevRad (Still Breathing, Forever Now).

I keep thinking that if the leak is real, could Burn it All be about Trump? I can just hear Billie singing, “Burn, burn it all! Don’t build that fucking wall! The dreamers all say, get the fuck out of our way!!!”
petros Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Too much too soon and lights out are top notch songs. I refuse to believe they were recorded in the same recording sessions as the most boring green day song ever, Walk away. Man I remember when the only green day song I didn't like was Christians Inferno. Those where the days.

It should be a little bit better now. Hopefully no one screws it up with false info again.
WhiteTim Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 The song I wish Billie or the band would release is Things I Heard Today
jengd Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Regretfully Yours is great, as is Olivia. So many bits and pieces of songs have been picked up on over the years and they are why we all so excited for new music!! We know that they recycle songs, take bits from them and re-write them but also Mike has said they have an attic full of songs not released but will we ever hear them? @WhiteTim don’t think I’ve heard of that one, any clips anywhere? Got it!

W_FInkThePlatypusHunter Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I’m game for the band anothe releasing a B-Sides/unreleased material album 1 hour ago, petros said: Too much too soon and lights out are top notch songs. One of the better cuts on the Trilogy, IMO. I like Lights Out and Too Much Too Soon, but it’s not like their the most substantial or top notch tracks they’ve ever recorded, lyrically. I can completely see that track being recorded during that session. Especially when compared to “Broadway”(unheard GD version), “Shoplifter”, and “The pedestrian(unheard GD version)” were also recorded in the same session.

No way a song with the amazingly inspiring chorus of "walk away, Walk away, walk away, walk away, walk away" was created at the same period of time as those. I hate walk away so much. The only green day song ever I wanted to skip during the first listen. Too much too soon, lights out and hearts collide though Oh and favorite son too. I had totally forgot about that song existing and listened recently and it's still so good.
steve46 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I don't know why but I am totally convinced that they will just release a new song. A totally new song!

I feel like Billie has different feelings on Green Day, nowadays. Not like he’s going to stop doing Green Day anytime soon because he’s lost interest or anything, but it’s the fact he’s been in the same band since high school and He’s a few years shy of 50. I’m sure there’s things Billie wants to do that are non-Green Day related, The Longshot being a great example. I’d be ok with less Green Day if it meant more Billie Joe branching out into more/different music. I loved Foreverly and I’m really sad that track with Avicii never got released(and that this point it probably never will with his first passing). I want to see Billie Joe play with more of his musical heroes/friends before they’re all dead and make kick ass music, but I also want new Green Day as bad as everyone else does. I’ve been listening to a lot of PinHead Gun Powder recently, it’s shame they haven’t done much in decade or so.

That would be an excellent point if Longshot and pinhead didn't sound exactly like green day.

dallasthemenace Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 sshhh, sshhh, sshhh.... no one's fighting. i might mock, i might kid, i'll definitely joke... but im not serious in the least when i talk shit. its all about absurdity.

Haha litteraly the top comments on Longshot songs on YouTube is people saying how they sound exactly like green day. It's the same power cords, vocal filters, typical Billie joe lyrics. I can't understand how you fail to see that.

Ask anyone else on the forum and they'll tell you they're not the same band. Same genre, yes, but different styles and intentions if you bothered to listen properly. And PHGP is also totally different. Three different sounding bands that Billie Joe happens to sing for.

For someone that complains about other people’s narrow-mindedness when it comes to music, I’m surprised you don’t see the minor differences between the bands. They’re the same genre, but they’ve all got their own thing going on

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Longshot and Green Day don't sound exactly the same, but they indeed are similar, because they happen to be the same genre and written and recorded by the same person. It's not a fault.
dallasthemenace Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 OH, its stated in a youtube comment section, so it MUST be true. absolute gospel. thats silly. the really funny thing is billie only writes a small percentage of PHGPs material. the bulk of it, lyrics and music, is aaron's writing, just executed by billie, jason, and bill. if youre unable to pick up on subtle nuances between sounds and bands, its ok. but dont look to youtube comment sections for knowledge or credibility. study the music. dont just take it at face value. or dont. whatever.
W_FInkThePlatypusHunter Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 PHG sounds a lot like classic 90’s Green Day as far as tone and lyrics go when Billie’s singing. The Longshot sounds like Trilogy era Green Day(which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I liked it)but closer to what he set out to do with the trilogy. Billie Joe’s voice and guitar tone is a one third of Green Day, so oddly enough his style of vocals and guitar tone seem to follow him to other projects(the exception being stuff like Foreverly).
