Was the Longshot material ever meant to be for green day or was it always designated as a side project? the album does just kind of sound like demos so maybe Billie decided to release the songs that didn't fit with the direction of the next green day album?

My theory is that Billie wanted to explore the trilogy sound more but didn't dare to do so with green day again and that's why he did Longshot

It said Fuck These People on the setlist from the garage show and at first we didn't know whether it was an actual new song or some kind of joke, but then someone who apparently was at the show posted on reddit that it was a new song. Then we thought it was made up because the guy deleted his reddit post on it (or like, edited it to be the Nightlife lyrics or something). But then afterwards it was somehow worked out that it was Back in the USA. Don't remember how that happened or if it was 100% confirmed or not though.

I don’t think that was ever worked out, we just assumed that’s what it was because they then released this new song shortly after. But there’s still no audio or witness confirmation that that is what it was. The reddit guy that claimed to have heard a new song described something completely different and was making shit up. 

I can actually imagine Billie sitting down to make a setlist ten minutes before the show starts not knowing what to write and just writing Fuck These People at the top to express his frustration 😄
