It's just weird how low the average quality of bands who claim to be inspired by Green Day is haha. It's because of how loved they are. I agree. It's like every band in the world saying they were influenced by Elvis or The Beatles. It's just they've been in the circuit for so long, how could you be a rock band and not be? Agree with you.
pacejunkie punk Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Husband just filled out a survey for The Spectrum on Sirius XM asking about your opinion on Adult Album Rock bands. They named like over 50 bands, everyone from the Beatles to the Stones to the Clash to U2, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, The Cure, The Pretenders, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, RHCP, Tom Petty, White Stripes (AND Jack White!) Mumford and Sons, Coldplay... every band you can possibly think of BUT NOT GREEN DAY!!!!! Why does this make me so furious? Why do they have so little awareness for a fucking Hall of Fame band??!! Who’s responsible for this?!?! 😡😡😡 Sorry I had to vent 😭. I guess sometimes the worst thing you can say about Green Day is nothing at all

I am always trying to explain and convince people to experience the fan side of the GD show and I only get made fun of so ironically it's my closeness to the industry that gets me constant guff. Pretty much all my friends make fun of me. So contrary to @Hermione who said her age she got into them at a too late age to hear much, I got into them when they were starting and never stopped but it's my age and position as a promoter that gets me made fun of so I've heard it all. My constant trying to convince everyone is precisely the reason I hear it. Either way, I don't give a fuck. When it comes to entertainment, Green Day or anything else I like, I care about what one person thinks, me. Also, I've never understood how they get thrown in with bands like Blink and FOB and other bands that I would probably make fun of my fiends if they loved. (For the record, I don't like Blink but my respect for them just shot up when I heard "Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cock, Cunt, Cocksucker, Moterfucker, Tits) which are George Carlin's "seven dirty words" which he fought for our right to say and even was arrested for using it on stage after FCC warnings and was a pioneer of non-censorship. Believe it or not, you couldn't even say these words on cable networks back then, let alone broadcast ones so I respect them for it but anyway. That said, I don't understand it. Green Day are now a classic rock band with a 3 decade history and as I've said here before their constant and longevity is pretty much unparalleled and probably will never be again matched as the ingestion methods of music have changed dramatically. NO BAND including every band in existence have had a span of hits that have lasted 30 years. Paul mcCartney, the greatest living legend of all time hasn't even. Great way to end on the best video on the internet if you haven't seen it. Check this out. The Late Late show is in London and they just shot Macca for the best CarPool Karaoke of all time. If you're a Beatles fan, prepare your tears, if you're not, prepare to be: (must watch until end). I will never stop loving Green Day and have even willed to have a Beatles song and a Green Day song played at my wedding. The LOVE remix of "Because" from the Beatles. I work in the world of music as well and you are so right. Honestly, I noticed it even when I was just on the fan end of things. You'd see friends, spouses, managers, etc. side stage and they're all "too cool" to look like they're having a good time. I'm pretty outspoken about how dumb it is and how people need to get over themselves . I've moshed and crowd surfed at my clients' shows and I won't apologize for it! That Carpool Karaoke was fantastic. I still wish Green Day had done it when they were on.

I don’t know when or why but there is a total snobbery among music fans once they get beyond about 22ish ( I think) and you CANNOT be seen to like a band thats had massive popularity (with a couple of exceptions, Beatles, etc) nor can you like a band who have fun. Fun is not what music is about!! It’s very sad.
pacejunkie punk Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Green Day on Carpool Karaoke is my fondest wish 🙏🙏🙏

But when you’re talking about people who are working in the industry EVERYONE’s truly too cool to care.
Yosuke Hanamura Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 A friend of my father said all of Green Day's songs sound exactly the same. (Mind you, this happened while my dad had Revolution Radio playing on Spotify.) Of course, we both looked at her like she was a doofus.
Hermione Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Oh yeah I almost forgot that my mum does nothing but make fun of Green Day, it's only to annoy me though lol. She thinks they sound like "children's party music"

_Mace_ Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 They're emo???? I'm not sure why people seem convinced of this, to me it makes 0 sense whatsoever.

I mean Billie looks like this And they've released emotional songs like BOBD with emo looking videos. The JOS video literally portrays someone cutting themselves as being cool and edgy. So it's partly a fair assumption . It would be a bit silly to think it based on them now but when American Idiot came out they did have an emo-like aesthetic going on. Back then it was like, terribly insulting to call them emo . But now I think it's more clear why they'd get called that and it's just funny.

It was a supposed to be show a bitter broken person trying to do something rebellious, something to change his surroundings. It didn’t seem cool or edgy, or like it was supposed to seem like that to me. they do have the aesthetic though

Billie still keeps the aesthetic going with his emo style selfies
Thatsername Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Last year I went to a festival in Austria where Green Day was headliner and I went there with a friend (who's also a big GD fan) and some of his family members (who turned out to hate GD and mocked us all the time). I tried not to care and to act cool, but it did hurt me. I tried to find out why they hate them, and it turned out that they didn't even have reasons. They just hated them although they had never seen them live, but they were absolutely crazy about Blink, who played the night before GD and sucked so hard. GD's show was fantastic as always and after it, I asked the guys: "So, what do you think?" and they had to admit that the show was "quite okay". Argh. I hate people.
Montclare Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Regarding the emo thing- I don't consider Green Day to be emo, but they definitely influenced emo. Kind of like how Robert Johnson wasn't rock, but influenced later rock artists. Same thing with the Who and punk.
pacejunkie punk Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 To me emo bands are dark and depressing. Green Day was never that to me so I never thought of them as emo. I always saw the humor and hope in their music which is something emo lacked. Black eyeliner alone does not an emo band make. Bands that were influenced by Green Day probably came off as more emo because they lacked that quality that Green Day has.
