 his articulation

I'm not american but I speak, write and sing in american. But I couldn't find the right word to explain this in the previous posts. Yes, the articulation. You already have that high-pass on using a filter and it's ok with me, at least in some parts of some songs, like happened in American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown. BUT, that weird articulation make it sound awful... Imagine it without a filter, it would be even worse, to me. And the trilogy is a good example. People complain about vocal filters on those records. I do not hear any vocal filter apart from standard reverb and moderate pitch correction. He also doubles his vocal tracks, so you hear that weird articulation even ''better''... I wish I would sing like he always did, I don't know why he force himself with that pronunciation... I don't like UNO, DOS and TRE' but there are good songs that sound good with those cleaner guitars, it gives smore space for drums and bass. But those vocals ruin most of it, to be honest. Like I said, vocals are maybe the reason n. 2 making me dislike the trilogy. The n. 1 is that the music is pretty clichè. For the Longshot, the songs are fine, '''Taxi Driver'' is the best in my opinion, and Billie Joe's singing does the job, here. He has a really great voice, I don't understand why he's feeling, recently, the urge to sing like someone else. I never had problems with 90s Green Day or 00s Green Day. I love 21st Century Breakdown. But if he keeps recording stuff like that... I don't know, he sounds like a different person, in that sense. And I love ''Back in the USA'', beautifully sung. And yeah, there's a filter there wich I dislike, in the verses. But luckly he's singing nautrally there so that disturbing high-treble effect is acceptable... That said. I NEED THAT EP.

Not really a compliment then huh! Jk! Lol. Where did you have your 50th? Did you do something amazing? I hope so.

You make a couple fine points here but definitely when Billie is in control of production, I agree that the vocal filters can get out of hand. Listen to any Network stuff especially but he was going for an industrial sound. I disagree with a lot of what you wrote here but I completely agree with some of it.

On LIFL, the only one I’ve really listened to, the mix, over production and filtered vocal was my very first thought when the vocal kicked in but I have somehow drowned it out but I don’t disagree.

I am usually not in agreement with most people’s reviews on production but on that, I won’t follow blindly and I’ll say my thought and that unfortunately is I don’t like the vocal sound in general. It’s massively overproduced.

I do like the song however. Sorry for rambling.

No worries, I'm happy you understood my point. He sounds like accentuating ''I'' and ''E'' letters. I don't know if he does it for a problem he's having with his 40 years old man voice and so he does that, adding a filter to make it sound crispier and ''younger''... But he started singing like that in 2011. In the pre-trilogy records he used to make some weird vocal sound here and there, but, like I said, here and there, I don't know... I think of ''King for A Day'', the way he pronounce ''drag'', ''CREAGH'', instead of ''drag'' or ''drEG'', Lol The fact the he keeps doing it makes thing that MAYBE he's somehow afraid of not sounding ok anymore on records, 'cause MAYBE he's having difficulties on concerts, recently, with his raw (real) voice. I'm just supposing... I wish all of the trilogy songs would sound like the clean pre-chorus you hear in ''Back in the USA''. He can sing. God if he can. I don't know. I don't wanna be ego, here. It's just my point. It's possible that someone could even like his new style of singing plus all of those overdriven things going on though all of the song. But it's not Billie Joe, to me.

@LaughingClock I’ve noticed that this EP & Longshot isn’t getting much attention outside of this forum. Even on Billie’s IG account, the last post with the announcement of the EP has acomparatively small number of likes. He gets many more when he posts just a regular selfie. The Longshot account has less than 20,000 followers. I don’t mean to be a downer, but is this a bad sign or is it to be expected with this kind of weird promotion and this early in the game? Or are people put off because it’s not Green Day?

Impossible for me to answer.

He/they are obviously not doing the normal promotional things. If you stop and ask 10 people who GD are 9 or 10 will tell you, if you ask 10 what is The Longshot, you’ll probably get a blank stair 9.999x.

Add to that, even though you guys feel that you represent the majority of Green Day fans, the reality is the public at large only listens to Green Day when an album drops or its in their face. Most people (including fans) aren’t checking IG accounts and the like. For example, I’m following them and I have checked it like once and I don’t really care to. Maybe it’s just my age but I’m used to the cycle. The only thing I ever worry about is the health of the band (I don’t mean literal health) and it’s pretty strong right now.

I would say it’s just not as known, not as looked at and although we represent the super fans as I once said, the other fans check billie or Green Day’s IG for a quick look, if that and then next thing,

If one of the side projects blew up to GD size, they wouldn’t stop. Hasn’t and probably won’t happen. No doubt Green Day is Billie, but there is NO Green Day without Mike and Tre. Just isn’t and I can’t explain it as it’s not their amazing musicianship or anything.

Thats my opinion anyhow.

Just listened to all three of the songs and I like them all so much! I'm really happy with the sound coming from the Longshot and I can't wait to hear the rest of the songs!

In my opinion it’s their personal and musical chemistry, their history, friendship and loyalty to one another that means no Green Day without Billie, Mike AND Tre. They’re an indivisible unit, even as the large majority of creativity comes from one member. Mike and Tre support and propel him forward and that level of trust is no small thing.

Seriously tho, I do nothing to you. I just asked for a source when you came up with unsourced information that later turned out to be false and yes, the post you were replying to said that Crush is Green Day's new management. There's nothing snarky or bitchy about either.

Yes exactly, they also have a label associated with WMG and Atlantic records.

Honestly the more “underground” Green Day goes the better in my opinion, they’ll continue to make good music no matter what. And there’s so many “mainstream” rock bands getting pressure to go pop I wouldn’t be able to stand seeing Green Day going that route.

I agree. It's really cool how Billie and the others really have an eclectic group of side projects that are artsy rather than mainstream, like going back to their roots which they like do anyway

Gotta disagree on this one with all due respect.

I think there is nothing that different about this then a variable sounding Green Day album.

Network was just a different beast and Tubbies was really just St. Jimmy and Longshot is Billie wanting to play with his peeps while the boys chill. Just a gusss but I’m rather impressed with the songs but underwhelmed by the production and difference in sound for a side project. The GD fan in me loves that but the artist wants to see more and different from Billie.

Going old school or even classic to me doesn’t count as eclectic or artsy at all. In fact, I would not consider the three released tracks as “artsy” by any stretch.

NOW, BEFORE anyone yells at me, it’s just my opinion off of a couple listens. My opinions of new Billie/GD stuff can and often does change. Either way, my opinion only.

Whoever is in this band doesn't have Billie Joe's potty mouth - unless the few songs I haven't heard are an endless tourettes-fueled shout fest.......which is entirely possible.

This album could be Green Day's cleanest release to date!

are you suggesting the lyrics aren't written by Billie? :D

Yeah what we've heard of this so far really doesn't sound too un-Green Day. The Network was completely different to everything they've done before and since, Foxboro at the time was totally new, although a lot of what they've done since then is sort of reminiscent of that style but this project to me is kind of just Green Day without Mike and Tré.
