I agree completely.

Actually for the first time ever while listening to LIFL, I mean for the first time ever about a side project, I thought through conclusion the success or not of this album.

The single has a Green Day sound and, and better yet, an old school one with a new vibe. Lyrics and music could easily be a GD song.  While you could say that about the Tubbies and Network and even GP but never did they feel like Green Day.

This single kind of does, to me. Although with a more classic sound. But at the end of the day, on a regular old song, Billie simply can’t hide from his lyrics and music.

i shouldn’t say that. People will go off the ledge here. I am just giving you guys a window into my  concern of Green Day’s staying power whenever there is a side project but then the music is USUALLY much different. Yes, Fuck Time was a Tubbies first but it was just Billie wanting to play it out. It was written for Green Day. I remember. Barely. Lol.

For the record, I have no exhistential real concerns for GD based on success or not of a side project especially with Billie loving the last tour so much.

Apparently, after the last tour, Billie is breathing music.

@LaughingClock I’ve noticed that this EP & Longshot isn’t getting much attention outside of this forum. Even on Billie’s IG account, the last post with the announcement of the EP has acomparatively small number of likes. He gets many more when he posts just a regular selfie. The Longshot account has less than 20,000 followers. I don’t mean to be a downer, but is this a bad sign or is it to be expected with this kind of weird promotion and this early in the game? Or are people put off because it’s not Green Day?

The account being private is probably a huge part of it. I don't think the Longshot is meant to be a huge thing either but rather just a thing for fans to appreciate and something for Billie to try out. But yeah people outside the "Loser Club", aka. hardcore Green Day fans, aren't interested in it just like the general public doesn't seem to be very interested in Green Day anymore.

I get "wow I didn't even know they're still active / touring / etc." a lot, even from people who like them. They're have become an underground thing not many people know about anymore and if it was up to me, it could stay that way.

For those wondering, the EP is on Spotify but you have to search The Longshot EP since there doesn’t seem to be an artist page yet. I still bought it on iTunes to support it more (Billie take my money) and also because I think it sounds a little better. It’s all good.

Could you post a link? I couldn't find it even when I searched "The Longshot EP"

I posted the Spotify link in the EP thread (page 1)

Just noticed Consequence of Sound posted on Instagram to “stay tuned for a full-length album to be released in the near future.” Apparently they know something official?

Just got an inside info. Devil's Kind is the album opener and Chasing a Ghost closes it. Probably the reason of the similar lyrics, just like Somewhere and Forever Now

PS: this inside info comes from inside my brain only

I was stunned when I was scrolling through Twitter before bed last night and saw they dropped the EP. Even though I didn't have great first impressions I can't wait to hear the release when I get home.

I like it it's fresh and Billie just has so much talent in his tiny little body 😅

Honestly the more “underground” Green Day goes the better in my opinion, they’ll continue to make good music no matter what. And there’s so many “mainstream” rock bands getting pressure to go pop I wouldn’t be able to stand seeing Green Day going that route.

Not sure if anyone spotted this:

The label seams to be Crush Music Media, a label created in 2016 by the Green Day’s management agency, inside Warner.

Interesting. So is Green Day staying under the Reprise label or shifting everything to Crush? As both are part of Warners I’m not sure what the distinction is. But does that also mean that Crush is behind this weird stealth marketing strategy?

I thinks it’s always treaky to determine what is spontaneous and what is not in these cases, but I really have the fealing of a self-managed campaign. If it’s not and the label is behind this, they certainly accomplished their goal :) I don’t think it’s a wired strategy at all, teasing and growing hype works very well and is not something new, even for GD. In the end we’ve been talking about this project for weeks now, if they wanted to catch GD’s fans attention and make the a social media amplification machine, he/they definitely succeeded :)

Yeah but by keeping it private it still stayed pretty small. Even now that it’s out I don’t see a ton of buzz beyond our little group.

I'm not a fan of Taxi Driver - it's just okay for me, really like Love Is For Losers and absolutely love Chasing A Ghost. Seriously, I have tears in my eyes, listening to this song, I don't know why

Yeah. It’s sad. Makes me sad too. It’s so good though.

A lot of people were begging Billie to add them on his insta even after the account went public. Part of it may also be that they haven't realized they have to back and add it again. People weren't automatically accepted when it went public.

I don't think they're "underground" per se but a lot of people really love GD but don't care about anything beyond those albums and tours. I think that's pretty normal with any artist that's made it to the mainstream. And the public isn't very interested in rock anymore period. When you take that into consideration, GD is still doin' pretty damn well for a rock band in 2018.
