deleteduser7593 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Finally, Lol I don't know... there's not a song written by Billie Joe I can call ''bad''. Even the worst is better than 70% of what I casually hear ion the radio. But I don't think I like this one. Yeah, the vocal filter will be there 'till the end of ages, I guess, now. So I surrender. Apart from that I think the song is nothing special. A mix of Green Day clichès with a little rock 'n roll riff. I like the pre-chorus, it reminds a bit of the Replacements, a band that me and Billie Joe share the love with. Another ''problem'' is that the chorus is the same thing as a song I put in my All Time Top 3 Songs: ''Waiting'', eheh... So happy it came out, anyways. Hoping for more, thank you BJ! :-)
Ross_19 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Sounds solid enough, based on my first listen I hope the claps aren't gonna become something Billie overuses with this band and Green Day, but its nice every now andagain:) Excited for the album, this was a good start to my day
deleteduser7593 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Yeah and I forgot to say that the verse is off ''Too Much Too Soon'', you're right peeps X'0 1 minute ago, Ross_19 said: Sounds solid enough, based on my first listen I hope the claps aren't gonna become something Billie overuses with this band and Green Day, but its nice every now andagain:) Excited for the album, this was a good start to my day I'm happy as long as Billie Joe and pals record stuff. Despite all their flaws :-)
aydge89 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 I wonder if this is the lead single from the album or just a promo release.
alienlifeform Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 AAAAAAAAAAAAAA California time sucks hahahah how he dare to release this in the middle of the dawn in Brazil hahahaha fantastic way to wake up though. Love the song!!

I get it's annoying to make the same complaint but it's kinda frustrating when the production and vocals on this have (in my opinion) butchered what is a really good song. The actual song itself sounds great, yet the vocals sound horrible and the mix isn't great. I'm sorry that me and others keep saying the same thing but to me it's becoming almost unbearable to listen to. So yeah, sorry to keep talking but my initial reaction to it was "wow that's a great song, but it's let down by the production" and I think it's such a shame
jengd Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Love it, just excited to get something new! What a time to release it though, causing havoc with my Monday morning, way to keep it low key!
Chin for a Day Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 I think the song is great musically but I do think it loses something with the vocals. I normally don't mind the filters and it isn't the filters that I don't like. It seems like the vocals don't fit. Almost like he should be singing at different parts. I"m not really sure how else to describe it. However, as someone said before, I like the garagey sound of it musically.
Goofygoldfish Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Is it bad that I don't mind what he does, all artists use their tools how they want in order to create the art they wish to portray. He didn't just record this once and think that will do, we all know Billie is way too much of a perfectionist for that. This is what he wants to say, and how. Some previous songs have not been my thing, and get skipped more than others, as I'm sure we all do. This one I don't feel like skipping, I like it, it's slow and moody. Slow enough to have been acoustic. I get they whole 'the words seem not to fit' thing, I thought similar, but also thought I just need to get used to it. It's what makes it different. At the end of the day, it's Billie making and releasing music.... I'm a winner!
Tubbie Head Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Whooo! Yeah the vocal filter should go away but the song is cool and catchy. Can't say it's one of my favorite songs but it's ok! Can't wait to hear the rest. I love the sound of the ending sequence for some reason!

Like, as far as I'm concerned this is a new sound on his voice.....it didn't sound like this on either the Trilogy or Rev Rad. Are people saying his voice/the vocal effect used has been like this since 2012??? Because if so we're not listening to the same band. The Trilogy's vocals are super clear. These vocals are as someone said like he's in a fish bowl . Hearing the full song I don't actually mind it much, I'd prefer it different but it's a stylistic choice that does work ok with the song. But I think the extreme voice effect is new and worth commenting on.
Mato Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 I think it's not the discussion about it what the problem is, it's more the dumb terminology people are just throwing around without having a clue what they're talking about, which then spreads around like cancer (ahem ''overproduced'' - we haven't heard that one in a while). eeh the song's okay. I think people pretty much nailed the feeling on it. Recycled clichè that's still catchy enough. I'm still looking forward to hear the whole record.

It sounds different though lol. I recall bits of AI's vocals having effects as heavy as that but the overall sound wasn't as extreme. Either way the vocal effect on this song is just a bit heavy for me

But whatever the reasons for it they sound a bit too fake/as if in a fish bowl, just an observation . Like I said I don't think it affects the song that badly though, still sounds good.
Digoco Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 It's not a bad song, actually it's super catchy... but it doesn't sound fresh. It has zero inspiration, Billie on automatic mode.
Morse Code Guy Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Glad that it’s not polished. It’s so awesome! 🙈
dallasthemenace Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 cool to wake up to this on a rainy monday... super stoked that a full drop may not be far off. i just wish we had a text filter for this board, because the next person who complains about 'vocal filters' needs a beating. get over it already. if you dont like it, start your own band.
localinsomniac Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 That was really nice to wake up to. Love the Hot Tubs vibe that I'm getting from this, and I can hear some similarities to prior material. Not a big deal, when you've been doing it this long, you're bound to repeat yourself more than once. But I can hear fell for you in places, too dumb to die, and a part of the bridge reminded me of pop rocks and coke.
Jonas01 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Very garage sounding ish, fairly decent track BUT the vocal fillters... or compression whatever you call it - it's absolutely horrible. I hope this does not become a ''standard'' thing on Green Day albums.
emmericanidiot Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 I like the vocals, nothing wrong with them. They could've released this under Green Day and it would've fit perfectly so my only 'issue' I guess is that I wish they would be a little bit more experimental when it comes to side projects like what they did with The Network. This feels like a safe side project, but still good.
deleteduser7593 Posted April 9, 2018 Posted April 9, 2018 Even when I know I nailed that song, I never act like the ''Hey I can sing that one!'' type. It's something in my DNA. And hin its kindess, 90% of the time it turns into something bad. To me. 'Cause 90% of the time I underrated me or auto-hurt myself, metaphorically. That said, I think there's a little bit of misleading here. I'll try to help. I hope so, at least. 1. One thing is a vocal effect that you hear in a certain part of a song. Example: ''Holiday'', during the bridge. 2. One thing is a vocal filter that your through all of the song. Example: ''Back in the USA'', a lil' bit. Longshot song, very noticeable. Foxboro Hottubs etc... 3. One thing is a vocal editing, where you add a bit of delay, eco or simple reverb. Example: All of the post-Warning recordings. Warning also already had more production on the vocals, even if just poor reverb and not invasive-pitch correction. Nimrod and previous stuff had pretty clean vocal tracks. 4. One thing is natural singing, where you use a natural singing without adding ''something''. Example: ''Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)''. 5. One thing is natural singing with ''weird'' iconic (in Billie Joe's case) variations with your mouth. Example: ''The Grouch'', ''Hitchin' a Ride''. 6. One thing is change your way of singing forcing letters trying to sing like you're younger. Example:Trilogy, Longshot song. To make it simplier: 39/Smooth = POINT 4. Kerplunk! = POINT 4. Dookie = POINT 4 and 3. Insomniac = POINT 4 and 5. Nimrod = POINT 4 and 5. Warning = POINT 4, 5 and 3. American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown and RevRad = POINT 3 and 1. Trilogy = POINT 6, 3, 2. Longshot song is POINT 6 and 2. What I wanna say, in short, is that: From 39/Smooth to Warning Billie Joe had a natural singing + simple reverb and pitch correction. From American Idiot to RevRad he started using vocal effects here and there and a little bit of overdrive but not that invasive, along reverb, echoes and pitch correction. The problem with the trilogy, or I'd say the paradox, is that his voice has reverb, pitch correction but CLEANER compared to some previous songs BUT sung in that weird point I explained. 3 minutes ago, disappearingfs said: Even when I know I nailed that song, I never act like the ''Hey I can sing that one!'' type.
