Totally wasn’t trying to single you out with what I said, just your post (one of a few scattered around this thread by many people, myself included) made me think. My problem is mostly with the previews being overly criticised when they’re tiny little snippets and it confuses me how there can be so many discussions about production etc when there’s like, nothing 😂

Part of the reason for the chain of effects he's been using on his voice could be because his voice has lost some of it's power over the years, as voices do around that age. Compression/distortion can trick the brain into hearing a more powerful vocal performance during a casual listen. So this tactic could work perfectly for casual Green Day fans hearing something new on Spotify/radio - it will sound like the Green Day they've always known - but the hardcore fans on this forum know every detail of Billie's voice so well that they hear it for what it is - Billie's voice with a chain of power effects.

To me, Billie's voice as it is recorded in the trilogy doesn't sound fake. It is very close to the live voice he had at that time. Like Good Morning America 2012, which I think is a good example because when he doesn't sing for a long time at once, his voice is closer to album version. I'm not saying there are no filters or whatever on these albums, I don't know and honestly don't care because I love the result on the trilogy more than any other album ; that being said, my favorite Billie voice is his current rough live voice. I also get to hear a lot of variations when listening to live, whether it's during the same performance or between different performances... which make his voice even more beautiful, if that's possible. Since we get to hear his live voice and hear that it's so good the way it is, I wouldn't complain about the albums offering a different side of it. It only adds to the richness of his voice . 

On a side note, I would never have thought, if I had first listened to his 18 year old singing voice in '39 Smooth, that he would have such a sexy and better than perfect voice starting from 20 years later (as for my taste at least!) 

When I became a fan in 2016, I made my mom (who's quite a selective music listener) listen to RevRad and she fell in love with Billie's voice on Outlaws. Then I put her some 2017 live stuff (what I love to hear the most) and she was stunned that his voice could be so rich and full live, she was like: "incredible, he can sound so soft and clear and also have this so virile voice".  Faithfully translating

For me too with Still Breathing, not that I disliked the album version at first, but I deeply and immediately fell in love with the song with live versions of it. I could listen to these all day (in fact, I do ). And funnily I have much more love for the album version since I love the song so much. He's not pulling on his voice the same way than live but I can hear the screaming in those "still", while at my first listens I didn't really.

Am I the only who thinks that the new vocal preview sounds a lot like something from These Paper Bullets? Maybe it was something that was written for that musical, but was scraped.

Vocal filters aren't as bad as I expected. The mix sounds pretty well-balanced, and the vocals aren't nearly as "canned" as Back In the USA. Hope we gets a release of some sort soon!

They seem to be down in LA though, not in oakland... I'm sure they have recording studio stuff down there too though!

I remember, i saw his photo in the Revrad era, captioned 6.13.16. It was a studio in (maybe) LA, where they were in the final stages of the album.
