Billie Joes Eyelids Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I really don’t think this is a joke or troll. Everything points to it being an actual side project. And Billie seems pretty consumed by it. If it was a prank he would have lost interest by now. The selective accepting of requests is just part of trying to keep it mysterious while still getting it out there somehow.

I was simply trying to point out that this type of behavior is not the way GD normally behaves with their fans. That is the reason why I am skeptical about this being real.It turned into "they don't owe us anything" As someone who is very little on social media and practically only goes there to check out stuff I first read of on GDC, I do feel a little bit lost. Interacting with us fans in a way that can only lead us to hang on even more than usual to every new post, in a kinda stressful way, since not everyone is allowed on the account so the most of us need to wait for others to post... I don't know what to think of it, yet I'm just like everyone else, waiting to see. I've also made a request to the Longshot account a few minutes ago. I want to add that, even the Coverups shows were more accessible to fans who'd already figured out clues from GD's social media (from what I've read, at least). Even if I lived near the place, without hanging out on social media so much, I would maybe not have been aware of the gigs in time. Keeping this new project even more secret, maybe has a real explanation we'll find out soon (as an April joke perhaps), but meanwhile I can't figure out why it has to be like this. If it's really Billie monitoring this way of proceeding, this is not a question of what he owes us or not (while him expressing how much he is grateful to his fans is not a scoop), only as a fan I don't feel at my ease with info coming this way.
Clockwise Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Come on, the exclusivity and mystery is part of the fun! I've requested them on 4 different accounts and haven't been accepted yet!

I've requested them on 4 different accounts and haven't been accepted yet! Come on? Well fun is subjective then. 1. Exclusivity. I am not having fun at the idea that I can't find out the new stuff (whether the posts themselves are more or less mysterious) by looking on my own, on a public account I'd be freely following, because I am a fan, and the only reason I am heading here and there on social media is because I'm a fan. 2. Mystery. I am not having fun to see this turns out to drive us even more into the craziness of internet. I don't like the idea that finding out about the new stuff depends on how much we hang out on social media and how hard we manage to figure out the clues. That's not the way I see fandom. I don't want to feel that I'm forced to play Sherlock Holmes on Instagram as to know what the band's at. I already spend enough time on internet like the rest of us and I certainly don't need more. So I can't take this like fun for now but I'm just waiting to see. Honestly I wouldn't mind if it's kind of a joke in the end, but even a joke would be funnier on an outspoken, public account...
Clockwise Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Okie dokie, well I'm having fun with it and I trust them to make it public when the time is right.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Are people really getting this worked up about an Instagram account? If it’s anything important it’ll all be publicized soon enough anyway.
Squashie Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 While I understand the reason some are upset, the owner(s) have never come out and asked people to play “Sherlock” with their posts. In fact 90% of the posts dont even have a caption. It just a photo with scribbles and the account name, so how much of a clue is it really? I’ve been following it since before it turned private and I’m not anymore “in the know” than the rest of you.. They/He are adding/accepting people almost every day as the follower count has increased. Just imagine the number of requests that account has right now. I’m guessing it looks like my work email junk folder (in the thousands). Since this was a public account in the beginning for a “band”, I’m going to assume that when the time is right, it will be made public again. Just trying to be a voice of reason here. If I had time, I’d screenshot and share the posts, but my life is a bit crazy right now. If something “big” is posted and it’s still private, I will do my best to share it. For now, just try to enjoy the weirdness for what it is.
emmericanidiot Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I don’t think anyone is genuinely upset that they’re not included it’s just kind of annoying a. Not knowing what it is and b. People being secretive. Both are things that’re just a bit irritating in general tbh.
Billie Joes Eyelids Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I’m genuinely surprised that people would be upset about this. We could have radio silence right now and hear about the side project 2 days before it comes out. At least this way there is something happening while we wait. Why do they owe us anything as far as telling us exactly what’s happening?

While for an outsider like me it might feel triggering/wiggering to not be included (even though I know it’s random and not personal), I agree given a choice I’d rather have this than nothing. As a game it has been fun, the posts are not hard to find on facebook if you look. Something tells me it won’t be for much longer anyway.
localinsomniac Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I'm having fun following from the periphery. It's cool to watch you guys figure it out, and then we can all enjoy the spoils later.
DookieLukie Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I've said this before, but the band has recently talked a lot about missing the times when they could play small clubs and do things without tons of media attention. This could one of those projects between friends that they are trying to keep small, especially if they plan to play some club shows.
Sanity Loan Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I can confirm this is the real deal. It is the Coverups' real band.

TimmyChunks Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 37 minutes ago, Matt. said: I can confirm this is the real deal. It is the Coverups' real band. Do you know if the NYC date is in mid-April? That's when the Project Chimps date is in Boston (April 12th). So there may be a few things coming together in the NE that would lead us to suspect that they (or at least Billie) would be in the region during this timeframe.
gaslight13 Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Personally, I’m not overly worked up about it but it is frustrating as others have said. As long as they don’t reveal anything too big before letting the rest of us in or making it public it’ll be all good. But we have no way of knowing, and I don’t think anyone wants to miss out on something big/time sensitive because they haven’t yet won the “accepted” lottery. I know they’re having fun with it, I just hope it doesn’t limit some fans’ shot at something over another. Idk, maybe it’s just reminding me too much of ticketmaster’s Verified fan thing where only some people get a shot at tickets for no reason. Just hoping this doesn’t work out the same way if there are upcoming shows. Fingers crossed they’re just being a tease and all will be revealed soon 😊.

_Mace_ Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I'm just excited. I have no social media except this, and I'm a-okay just seeing snapshots here. However, the exclusiveness pisses me off since it seems a little pointless. I mean, why bother letting only a few people in when they turn around and share posts? And then post that "do'ya think they've figured it out yet?" Thing, which just seems silly. Like, we know you want the fans to figure it out, but if that's the case, shouldn't you let everyone have a shot? Maybe it is all a prank and the only Longshot is getting accepted to the page. But I doubt they're that cruel. They might enjoy pranks, but it'd be a real dick move to get a bunch of fans this worked up over potentially nothing. I'm excited, I want new music, and I would be impressed, if disappointed, even if it were some elaborate prank.

I mean, after just two coverups shows, there were radio stations telling people that Billie and Mike would be at these bars playing shows. Then after those next shows, there were pictures of several men with stacks of vinyl crowded around Billie. It only makes sense that they would try to keep another side project on a lower profile, to avoid that much attention, while also getting fans there. I just really don't see anything for people to be pissed about. It's not something to take personally.

Whatever they're doing, they're not keeping a low profile at all... really quite the opposite; the hype is real.

JellyTime Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 As a social media freak I think making private account is just great strategy! No matter you like this idea or not, we're talking about it over and over again! That's the point.

I haven’t been accepted and I feel zero concern that something “big” won’t be leaked. We don’t even know what this account is yet and everyone’s already getting FOMO.
