I heard media my whole life, so did my dad, and it totally makes more sense to me that way, but I do kinda hear mania now that I know.  I'm just going to forcibly forget this though, so it will not affect my listening pleasure.

Duck toy all, it's always been mania. Or media? I don't know anymore

Fucking millennials, getting drunk, spamming a innocent thread.  Retreat to your hangover, peasants!

I would love to hear some of the C&V stuff one day, they have to had to re-recorded some of the tracks they lost, hence C&V being dusted off the cobwebs when they played it.

I gotta go with the cue card. He wouldn’t hold up the wrong lyric, he wrote the fucking thing.

We’ve heard quite a bit of it haven’t we? We’ve heard C&V, some of the AI bonus tracks likely came from there (not sure which ones but surely Hearts Collide, possibly Shoplifter, Too Much Too Soon) and I know they’ve told someone on this forum that alot of the Network album was C&V songs (certainly Roshambo for starters). i would like to see a confirmed tracklist but I bet we’ve heard at least half of it.

Perhaps, but it's nice to have something after speculation. Dream scenario would be to have C&V attached to AI 20th anniversary. We can all dream.

That’s what you heard at least. But then he has messed up his own lyric when singing of course, that doesn’t change the official lyric. I remember a similar thing with the Too Dumb To Die lyric video. The lyric says Looking for a buzz, but he definitely says Looking for a cause.

It begs the question; which lyric is the right one; what he says in the studio recording, or what he writes in the lyric book? Maybe he changes the lyric in the book because he prefers that word and didn't get to re-record or something?

The thing is, he's probably happy if he remembers any lyric

This might be entirely possible but Warner might mess it all up again...

I like how this thread turned from "The Story of American Idiot" into "Wtf is the lyric in AI"

Tbh idk which word makes more sense or which I prefer. They both kind of do.

But in terms of the story, yeah I don't think this video really tells us anything that most of us wouldn't have known already but it's a nice video for people who aren't as familiar with AI and aren't obsessed fans like most of us here

I wish they offered a full online course on the study of Green Day. I would take that in a minute.

Personally, I really enjoyed the video, but I have done most of that analysis on my own before, so.

Found a picture of them actually making the cue cards so the lyrics have to be officially endorsed 🙂 (love the bottle of wine and the bag of chips too)

@Travis Thanks for posting this.  I am a little late getting here but just wanted to say that I must have listened to American Idiot hundreds of times, but not for quite a while now. This has made me revisit it and hear it again with fresh ears, I think I had lost sight of how awesome and important it is, just through familiarity with it.

Also, I have to say, I feel completely vindicated by the whole mania/media debate as I hear Billie singing both and would not be surprised at all if it was quite deliberate that either word fitted just perfectly.
