And they were nominated for Best Rock Performance twice after AI and for Best Music Film once. So not too shabby

Awards aren't everything. And did the album even do that well commercially?

Dear lord, who hates on Green Day these days? I haven't heard anything bad about them in years :o

AI has won some great deal of nominations but RevRad and the trilogy will always have the most precious place in my heart. I do feel sad for this absence of nomination because I believe Green Day deserve to be much, much more known and renown for their music, but hell that doesn't change a thing to what that music makes me feel. People might hate on Green Day, I'll just leave them with that, and for my part remain blessed with my daily passion for this band.

Deserve to be more known and renown for their music? They’re in the rock and roll hall of fame. That’s as renowned as you’re likely to get (apart from five grammys, countless other awards and tens of millions of records sold). Seriously what else do they have to do to prove themselves? I really don’t think they care at this point.

I doubt they'd be 'upset' for not being nominated, but I'm sure they care, and would be happy they did. An award like a Grammy to say 'You still got it' would likely make them feel great, and inspired to keep writing and working!

I see what you're saying, and that they've proved they got the chops, but I'm sure they love to be nominated, and especially win anything at this point!

That's because the reaction is usually "they're still around?"

Irritated, but not really surprised. Fuck the industry, it's all rigged anyway. And thanks @Jimmy Strummer for the Adam Ruins Everything reference

Where is this utopia world you speak of? Where I live, at least 60% of people I talk to about them don't like them.

Eh. Green Day doesn't make music to get awards. I love and appreciate when they're recognized, but even ceremonies as prestigious as the Grammys are ultimately just popularity contests. More than anything, it makes me sad how rock has been all but forgotten in the big categories for the last several years.

That said, if Chris Cornell doesn't win that Grammy, so help me god.

Hope A7X gets a win for The Stage. Amazing album.

Well I completely agree, I didn't say they have anything to prove themselves, or that they should care about (more) nominations. When I said they deserve to be much more known and renown, I was thinking of the way random people I can meet every day seem to think of Green Day, or know of them, moreover in spite of the consideration the music industry has for the band.

But in the end, even the fact I can hardly find people who love Green Day where I live, doesn't really matter to me, same way as I don't care much either about (further) nominations. Of course it would have been a great pleasure to see the band rewarded again, for RevRad (like everyone here, I assume!), but my previous post's point was, even if the albums I love the most won't be rewarded like other ones, it doesn't change my love for them at all, nor what they bring me.

Sadly, I know way more people who hate them than like them over here. Many, many people I know like bands like Blink and stuff, but hate GD for "selling out" or "making pop music", or because they think they're overrated. Whatever :fuckyou:

On the other hand, all of their shows over here sold out, so there must still be many who like them. I wonder where they're hiding:lol:

People think GD is too poppy but Blink isn't? Blink is as poppy as it comes

Bla bla bla bla bla bla...

Seriously, since when is "RevRad was meh" a popular opinion? What a bunch of Debby Downers.

Hmmm, well say that to these couple of thousands of people.

Not like Run was a well produced, more sophisticated song than most other rock releases this year

Fuck em :fuckyou: The industry sucks right now. How Bang Bang didn’t get a nom after that AMA performance is beyond me. They brought the house down. And RevRad deserved a nom too. How many rock bands are there to compete with anyway?

the OP is a list of artists if you're looking

I don’t mean EVERYONE has that reaction. I just mean those who aren’t fans don’t react negatively, they’re just more likely to be surprised the band still exists. You don’t have to convince me they still have tons of fans, haha.

(Sorry mods, can’t delete pics because I’m posting via my phone).

There are people who don’t like the Beatles too. No matter how big you get you’ll never have 100% fan saturation. Haters gonna hate, that doesn’t mean anything to me.

But looking at those photos of the size of those crowds makes my heart soar 💚

Mmmmm Green Day did not attract hundreds of thousands of new fans with RevRad. Green Day consistently pulls thousands of fans for shows because they're an iconic rock band with multi-generational appeal, a very strong stage presence, and incredible showmanship. They have a strong and loyal fanbase that they created when they made two ground-breaking, music-world-changing albums with songs that have remained staples on the rock radio rotation. Bang Bang is not and never will be something that enjoys regular air-time in the way that Holiday, Basketcase, Brain Stew, or Welcome to Paradise do. Green Day did not attract massive crowds on their latest tour because their latest album is just that good, they attracted those crowds because their live shows are that good. People don't go to a Green Day show to hear "Forever Now," they go to hear American Idiot.

That may be true but they absolutely picked up new fans just this past year with this album and tour. I know because I am one and I know others here are also new superfans. Also there are kids at their shows now that weren’t born when AI came out.

Good, because if they did, I wouldn't be able to watch it on tv. Anyway, I always cared for Green Day at an award show to see THEM. At this point is an award that important anyway? They're God's and a lot of people's favorite band

The hating of Green Day is a two sided coin though. While it really irritates the hell out of me when I talk about them and people complain about them, It's also kind of a good thing. If everyone in the world liked them it just wouldn't feel as special/ intimate. On the other hand, maybe I'm just crazy.

Personally, I'd MUCH rather hear Forever Now live than American Idiot

(No shade to AI, still love ya)

Well the top photo is from London 2013 so the Trilogy tour and the bottom photo is Hyde Park which was a festival. Yes they are still around, but the reality is they don't sell out massive arenas for several nights in a row in the same city as they did in 2004/5 for example. Who gives a fuck.
