I just assume it is all available online.  I cited the source of the info that I posted and that was iMDBpro.com (not IMDB without a sub) which has a lot more info.  I literally posted all the info about the dates, writers, producers and stuff that is available right now.  I literally pulled it directly from there.

As for how I found out about the connection between LMM and AI the Musical and his interest in the film was by doing a drop of research.  I found out that he was a fan because I was wearing (coincidentally) a sports jacket with a Green Day RevRad tee shirt much like he's wearing with the AI New York musical Tee above and he mentioned that he was a fan of Green Day and the musical and spoke about Tom Kitt.  I would have loved to press him more but, again, as I said, i was already geeking out a little just speaking to him for the minute I was introduced and wasn't going to press it so I came home and literally wrote "Lin Manuel Miranda American Idiot" and found a treasure trove of tweets and info and then I checked IMDBpro to see if he was officially attached or not (a lot has changed in his life since 2016) but not so much that he wouldn't be still interested in something like that.  In 2016 Hamilton was in full a effect and a phenomenon.   So that is how I got ALL of the info that I posted.

As I said in the OP, as I find our more info, should it become available, I'll post it here.  Was gonna post it in Random News but needed a new thread because if it all happens, it needs a place so why not and gives me a place to talk shop.  So for now, as I said, this thread can sink and I'll post in it when the time is right.  As of now, you guys know pretty much all I do.  In fact, I figured people would know more than I do.

@LaughingClock: I should have specified I'll be seeing the show in NYC and not in LA, but I still hope that the cast at that point will be good!

Also was just remembering Billie is friends with Matthew Fox (who is amazing in Lost, especially in second half of the show) and is a fan of Party of Five, not sure of Billie liked Lost too

To get back on topic I absolutely agree that a possible LMM involvement  be great for mass appeal but really most importantly it would be great to have someone so talented be a part of the project. I really think the movie has a lot of potential to be both really great or not at all. I really hope they can make the movie great and do justice to the AI album.

That might be why I haven't had as much luck in research, in that iMBDpro.com requires a membership that I don't have. When doing a regular google search on American Idiot Movie HBO, everything that comes up is from a year ago. So from your information it appears that all the recent developments are only known to insiders. If it happens, I wonder when it will be officially announced.

One more question @LaughingClock, sorry. You said you did searches on LMM's current involvement but I wasn't clear on what you found. Did what you saw indicate that he does have a current involvement, or is it based on what he said back in 2016? Thanks for your insight!

Sure thing.  No there is nothing new about any involvement that I saw on IMDB regarding cast. Right now they are only listing writers, producers, and an EP.  

The info I gave is the official news. Anything else  I would give is hearsay based on sources that I wouldn’t feel comfortable posting as a fact.

I'm comfortable with info coming from you. Can't wait to hear more.  If it weren't for you I'd be positive that this project was dead. It seems like they're purposefully keeping it hush-hush, or maybe this is typical. I know nothing about movie/television production

If it was officially green lit last month and funded does that mean that an official announcement will typically be made soon? At what point do film projects usually get publicized, eg at the casting stage or earlier?

It gets promotion when it gets announced in the trades (Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Variety, etc).  Once it is FULL FULL green lit, that's when it's reported there.

I actually changed the "fully funded" comment as it is not completely correct.  Once the "in development" part is in gear, there is money because working talent in LA don't like working for free so there is money in the cauldron already but it's not fully funded and being promoted or even announced.  I got a little ahead of myself based on a couple things but the screenplay is written and is being re-written and now that the boys are back, there is some more movement that hopefully will be coming in the not too distant.  If it does and I hear about it, I'll tell you guys.

As far as casting and all that, it's the last part of pre-pro.  We shall see.  I suppose I was excited when I found out that LMM was interested in it and I was pretty down with it in the first place but that send me over the top and I was just posting that in the Random thread and then moved it here and here we are talking away.  

Look at the Queen bio-pic.  It's FINALLY getting made.  This thing was in pre-production for over a decade.  Freddie Mercury was originally going to be played by Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali-G, Borat) and then he bailed on it when they decided they (Brian May and Roger Taylor) refused to focus on any of the hedonistic part of Freddie's life and then that put it off for another several years. It's pretty amazing how a film ever gets made.  There are so many cooks in the art kitchen with films that they can ever get made, let alone be good is amazing.  Singer is Directing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and principle photography either is about to start in London or already has but the thing was literally in pre-pro for over a decade.  The point?  You just can't predict these things.

I'm a little bit confused. Have there been any real, confirmed updates recently? I thought that all of this, i.e. the film being green lit and LMM being possibly involved, has been known since last year?

I'm just hoping the movie will be great, I mean, really great, to do justice to the fantastic record it's based on. I hope it will be nothing like the movie they did for The Who's Tommy, one of my other all-time-favorite-albums. The movie is just Even Jack Nicholson can't save it for me. And I love Jack Nicholson.

If I've learned anything following this band is that unless it comes from the boys themselves, assume it's fake until proven otherwise. People love creating fake shit, false quotes, etc.

wow this is major news to me! I would love LMM to be part of American Idiot the movie. I love the play so much and I regret not going to Broadway to see Billie play St. Jimmy  This is amazing thanks for the write up

It doesn't list things like "full green light".  The OP has ALL the info that IMDBpro has. I literally copied and pasted the part that has dates and something next to it. I removed the part I added which was told to me by a person that is, we will say, closer to the band than anyone that can be close to them without actually being them.

You are correct on the first half.  There is definitely a "good chance" it will happen. You never know until it's done but they don't get this far in development, write a script, attach a producer (a real produce), a writer, and all that stuff for the no reason.  They do it because they plan on making it.  Once the option was purchased, that was the first money injected into the idea.  Once you have a producer and writers, you are putting even more money into it.   The success of the RevRad album and tour certainly didn't hurt and of course the pretty successful and Tony nominated musical it's based on helped as well. I would say there is a very good chance it will be made into a film, it's just a matter of when and I don't know that. It is in development with HBO Films and PlayTone now.  When there is any news I hear, I'll put it here.

Ok, thank you thank you and thank you. So glad you’re willing to share with us what you know. Billie has just disappeared lately and I’m kind of wondering if it has to do with this project. Maybe taking care of the business side, in talks with HBO, etc

I love Lin and I remember seeing his tweet asking for a part, any part.   His involvement at any level would be amazing.   I thought they went way back - in Broadway Idiot where the band first come in to watch the cast in a rehearsal room it looks like he’s there too and Billie gives him a hug?   I could be wrong but I’ve always thought it was him.   

Can I add to any speculation?   A good few months ago I noticed Billie is following Kate Hudson and Drew Barrymore on instagram and my first thought was perhaps they are slated for the movie too.  Of course, he could be following them for any number of reasons and I may be way off.

Also, I hope Mike and Tre will get a walk on part at least!

Interesting you said that because I wondered what it was about when he started following them. Kind of random. I think they’re too old for a part, but if Billie is playing St Jimmy maybe they’re skewing the cast older 😂. Seriously though, maybe they are involved in the project in some way.
