Green Day is already going straight into the studio?

I don’t think Tre wants a serious song. He got a chance to do that in Homecoming and Rock and Roll Girlfriend was the closest he got 😁

Seems they are in OTIS Studio again?

The thought that they could be in Otis now recording stuff makes me so happy. Even if it's just a possibility.

Do we officially have a new in the studio thread???

:runaround: I'm so ready

This is the best news in forever. Watching all the Coverups stuff I kept thinking about Tre and thought he was missing out on all the fun. I had also wondered aloud on here how Green Day was going to work together with Tre off in SoCal. So glad he posted that confirming he’s back in town and the boys are in the studio.

So if they’re arranging and rehearsing some demos, do we think they’ll stay in Otis to then record or find a bigger studio when they’re ready?

Are there any clues that the pic is definitely from Otis?

Holy shit, I wasn't expecting them to be in the studio this quickly. I'm not really sure if it's a good thing. I mean, new GD music is always good but as good as RR was, I don't want them to just make another RevRad.

Yes, the red sound panels in the background. You can see other Otis pics, they match 🙂

Have a little faith that after thirty years they know what they’re doing 🙂

Please no, seriously, I don’t really want another lo-fi budget production, especially if it’s self-produced. I’d like a producer and mixer (Rob Cavallo and Chris Lord-Alge as a baseline). But as someone pointed out, they may be doing demos and stuff before hand. How do we know they’re in Oakland for Otis though?

I don't want to be a party pooper, but let's not get carried away and then disappointed immediately thereafter!

This might not mean anything, but seeing that picture surely made my day better

Exactly. They were at Otis for a couple years before RevRad was released. And we know Billie hangs out there anyway.

And can I just say I find it ironic that Green Day was once criticized for signing to a major label (and everything that goes along with it, like more money to make a more polished sounding album) and now they're being criticized for doing it on their own?

Wow that’s true. You just can’t win sometimes 🙄

I don’t think Tre would make the trip unless they were working on Green Day stuff.

This. I think exactly the same, but If they are making something new in studio could be only demos.

PS: I really want a new album with big plans, big production, and producers like Butch Vig, or a new, like Rick Rubin.

Great! I see no problem in self-producing like RevRad as the output was comparably good. Predicting releasing date makes no sense right now but at (VERY) best it can be either mid or during fall this year. Anyway, what about the sound? After looking at The Cover-ups setlist I see they are taking a diverse influence this time- Beastie Boys, Rolling Stones, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Misfits, David Bowie that's awesome one can expect a diverse output like Nimrod but again this can't be completely true but seems interesting.

I understand what you're saying and I was probably overreacting since I still want them to express themselves musically however they please. However, I don't think this is a fair comparison. I mean, arguably some or most of Green Day's best work (in the last 20+ years) was produced in a regular size studio environment and with a producer (mostly Rob Covallo), as well as other audio personel. Not saying they can't sound great in a small studio, they obviously can, but part of their sound these days just works better in a larger studio tbh. That's why I don't think the trilogy was overproduced as much as wrongly produced for the outcome they were trying to achieve. It was a misstep in their career, the concept was fundamentally flawed and the production didn't really work.

There's also a difference between sounding somewhat raw, meaning with little adjustment to the overall sound, but still well recorded, as well as well mixed and mastered of course (Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod) and sounding slightly cheap  (RevRad) or very cheap (Kerplunk, 1'039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours).

Otis is also their place to hangout right?

I think Tre just having fun with is solo band, and Billie, mike and jason and others with the coverups.

Still hoping for a live album of the revrad tour. But that would me already been announced.

Maby they do a demo album first, for record store day? (or a studio album of the coverups?)

I don't expect a new record soon. just the feeling a have.

With so many live performances on YT etc I'd much rather have something new. I won't mind if it takes a couple of years, though. I've learned to be patient with these things

As RevRad was my first GD album, and one I didn't even expect, the next one will be the first one I'm expecting and a immense pleasure when it comes out  but man it was a great joy already to see the boys come up with covers gigs so soon after the end of RevRad tour. So yeah I too will wait the time it takes, and selfishly the more it takes the more I'll save some money to hopefully be able to see them in the US during the next tour; meanwhile seeing them play anything, getting news in any way is still totally awesome. It has made me get to listen to some music I didn't really now, with all these different covers. And Billie's singing voice on them will forever be my favorite

Well. let's see if GD has any surprise for Record Store Day this year...

I doubt they're recording already since they've been active with other projects lately, but maybe they're practicing, and even that alone makes me happy. I'd like to see them go for a bigger production next time, but I think a secretly recorded self-produced album was exactly what they needed to do for RevRad since it was a comeback album in a way. Since RevRad went pretty well they will probably want to go big next time. I wouldn't  mind if they recorded at Otis again, they have good equipment there, a lot of it was brought over from Jingletown, I think it was the mix and mastering engineers that made revrad sound kinda lackluster. I'd like to see Rob come back and produce with them again too. also, they sold the Trident mixer from Otis when Billie sold off all that gear on Reverb recently, so either they bought a new mixer and replaced it, meaning they are going to record there again, or they currently don't have a mixer there, which means they will probably record in another studio
