The Grohl Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 This interview is awesome so far! I can't believe someone from GDA got such an opportunity! That's so cool! I'm still waiting for my chance to interview the guys But seriously, great interview, can't wait for part three. Favorite part so far? Billie Joe Zuckerberg

RougeRogue Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Billie sounds so different than his other interviews. I dig it.
Kaddi. Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 What exactly does Billie mean when he says it's "as close as you can get to a European crowd"? Is a European crowd that different from any other one? I don't really get it.

We don't do that as much here.
Hermione Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Goes without saying really but it's seriously so awesome that GDA got to interview the band , and what a great job J'net did of it! Really interesting read and cool to have all the background to it and the sound clips.

I think he just means crowds in general chant and sing along more in Europe (not just at gigs but at sports events etc), not that it doesn't happen at all in the US but just that in Europe it's even more. I don't know if that's really the case at GD shows or not but maybe it seems that way to him, he's mentioned it before.
Psycho Britney Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 J'net: Music is an emotional experience, and some of your songs are so emotional. Do you ever feel overcome by the emotion when you're performing, or are you somehow in performance mode so you can rise above it? Billie: I definitely go there. Like that line 'I'm like a son that was raised without a father,' — that's a button-pusher for me. Also with Forever Now, and also lately with playing '21 Guns' acoustic … when I get emotional is when I hear people singing along — when I hear voices that loud. I think with Green Day, we create an atmosphere that's as close to a European crowd that you can get — with people singing along, almost like a soccer anthem. And I love seeing people who are normally self-conscious when they lose it. I try to push people to just lose it when they come to our shows. Some nights, people are so pent up with energy, they don't even know that they have inside them. And I try to get people to dance like no one's watching and sing like no one's listening — just go for it! Absolutely love this!! Billie truly understands the power and impact of GD music and live shows, and is he is right. I'm a bit self-conscious and not the most confident person in everyday life, but at GD shows this never matters. I always jump and dance around, and sing my heart out and never worry about doing so! It always feels natural and the most perfectly normal thing to do!!

I have a suspicion this is why we've seen him do songs with his eyes closed. I swear, he barely opened his eyes during a lot of the early Still Breathing performances. In the interview when he talked about September, I recall him saying something like "if I look into the crowd and see someone else crying, that get me" (or something to that effect)
jengd Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 This interview is great. I love to think of them going backstage after the show and saying "did you see that girl/guy whatever doing whatever. It's really felt that they are enjoying this tour so much, this backs that up and how invested they are in the crowd and it's enjoyment of the show.

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I love that part about Fran and the misheard lyrics talk don't really get the Bruno Mars joke haha

jengd Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Know nothing about Bruno Mars, but you would think if that was his school, they would know him! Not sure why the confusion but it was great to hear this, again thanks for the interviews. Any chance of full audio? Pretty please.....
pouty bitch Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I don't get the Bruno Mars joke either. He didn't go to that high school, he went to a high school in Hawaii. I don't know why he would have any connection to a high school in Oklahoma.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Maybe they just thought Billie and Bruno look alike
