DeJennsitized Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 I don't really mention stuff to others (because I know they don't care, lol) but things I would mention: 1. My brother caught a Tre drumstick for me at my first ever Green Day show 2. Mike saw me looking at him at Wembley Stadium and did that smiley nod thing of acknowledgement he does 3. I'm technically a backing singer on AAF (21stCB at Wembley and Holiday in Dublin) 4. In Leeds I'm pretty sure Billie aimed the water gun right at me and when I ducked behind the guy in front of me, he tried again That's the extent of my anecdotes I also like saying I've been to all three of their massive London shows (Wembley, Emirates, Hyde Park) and exactly half of all Belfast shows (of which there are four)
Meliciraptor Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 My fav anecdote doesn't really have that much to do with something the band did, haha, but I share it anyways. When i was at Pinkpop, I met a group of girls who weren't there for Green Day. They were there for the whole festival experience and they were very curious about Green Day, but didn't know many of their songs. I watched them throughout the whole set and the look of wonder on their faces during all the great parts, from the fans on stage to the guitar gifting to BJ's shenanigans during KFD, etc. It might sound lame, but it was like getting a chance to see Green Day for the first time again. It was awesome!
herewegoagain Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 ^^ That's cute! Discovering Green Day was almost as much fun as knowing Green Day

It was awesome! Ahh I love this! We met a 14 year old girl with her dad at Hyde Park, it was her first concert and her first time seeing Green Day. I was so excited for her, there's nothing like seeing Green Day for the first time! I told her it was gonna change her life, I didn't see her after the gig but I can only imagine that she had the best time!

I was 13(almost 14) when I saw my 1st ever concert with my Mum and it was Green Day. I remember standing there at my seat mesmerized for what seemed at the time an hour. I remember singing the songs and also screaming quite a bit. Mum who is a Classic Rocker herself was quite the trooper and also enjoyed the show and I think she enjoyed it most because I loved it. It is something I will never forget.

She came with me to Milton Keynes too, sat in a deckchair with a book haha, what a trooper! 😄
Ceitko Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 That I saw them at V festival in '98 with my parents when I was 9. It was the festival that used to happen in Leeds before Leeds Festival was a thing. It was a pretty short set but I remember thinking that I liked their energy. Sure enough by 12 (just after Warning) I was a big Green Day fan. I'm 27 now! My my parents have never been fans they were there to see The Verve, James and Texas

I really didn't start hitting my rebel stage till 13. You must have some cool parents.

My parents are definitely cool. Now I have my own kids I know it's true haha. At 15 my parents were so not cool but I did, looking back, live a very laid back childhood and teen years then moved out at 17! My parents go to more gigs than me these days by far. My dad was an original 70s punk but he's into everything (even dragging me to see Deadmau5 when I was six months pregnant..). In fact he had to tell me who Slaves were..

My Mum who raised me on her own is also very cool and a huge Classic Rock(Led Zeppelin) fan. So I grew up listening to that stuff. I also have and probably still do give her many headaches as I became a Wild Child at 13 and started hanging with older girls, smoking at 14, and going to parties and drinking. The sex didn't come till I was 16 though. I did give her a little breather on that. Through it all though my Mum has been my Rock in many ways and I also credit her with her awesome influence of music on me.
Hermione Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Just everything about seeing FBHT because it was so great and I love to remember it . Especially Billie singing to me for a moment and smirking when I opened my mouth for the beer he was holding and pouring it over me, being between his thighs when he knelt into the crowd for a while , randomly feeling his leg hair when I grabbed his leg to lift him as he crowdsurfed, getting to ruffle his hair and generally being in physical contact with him lots of times because he kept crowdsurfing over me . And a hundred other things about the show such as the awesomeness of them playing Stop Drop and Roll 6 times. And what a crazy day it was travelling to London with no idea if we'd get tickets and ending up with a whole international group of friends there seeing this magical show at 1am on a freezing night after waiting in a pub called The Famous Cock all day, and after a Europe show of all things had finished in the same venue and the band themselves had already played a 3 hour GD show, like a surreal dream. Another fave would be when at my first GD show I was with J'net in the crowd and Mike gave a security guard a pick to give to her, and she turned and gave it to me as a gift. I thought that was so generous and sweet of her. And also just meeting so many great people for the first time at that show and singing along to American Idiot with Tony from BIAB himself 5 hours ago, Jenn. said: I don't really mention stuff to others (because I know they don't care, lol) 3. I'm technically a backing singer on AAF But yeah this lol I'm also going to consider myself this from now on
thundercatmary Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 In about 95/96 when I was in high shchool I got my first green day cd Dookie. My boyfriend at the time gave it to me, I dumped the boy but kept Green Day and to this day I'm still a fan. i feel like I've grown up with Green Day quite literally lol
herewegoagain Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Sigh. No offense to all the cute anecdotes but I think @Hermione "wins" this thread quite easily Spoiler

I just loved being there a lot

The FBHT shows just appear so elusive (they didn't do that many right?) and not gonna lie, excessive physical contact is pretty high up on my list for sure Anyway did they actually play on the same night of the GD show? That's pretty impressive.

I'm only going to be turning 19 and started getting into GD when I was 13 so it really hasn't been that long for me. There is certainly nothing wrong with a boring childhood as I made my Mum crazy many times. I also certainly don't condone any kid who is 14 to start smoking because it is extremely addictive and very hard to quit. That is why I am going to be 19 and still a smoker.

I understand, but I guess since I am still rather young I never got to experience those early years of GD live in concert like a lot of the members here have. I get to see that stuff on video which is cool and everything, but not quite the same experience. I just hope the guys stick around for some time so I can experience them live more in the future because they are amazing.

With the way some bands are going well into there upper 50's and 60's I think they will. Hell The Rolling Stones are in there 70's and Keith Richards has abused his body most of his life and they are still rocking.

Billie's said before that the only way anyone is getting out of Green Day is in a body bag. They may start to tour less frequently as time goes on I guess, but right now I don't think they're ready to throw the towel in! I have to admit though that I do have these "they're not getting any younger" thoughts from time to time :/ but honestly who would believe that they're the age they are?! Billie is like a whippet, I don't know where he gets his energy from!

I started to sing with him. We're friends now. This is my absolute dream and the number one method I'm counting on in order to get a bf I still remember when I was about 6/7 and would always hear Good Riddance on the radio and would always adore it everytime it came on, even though I had no clue it was Green Day at the time! So when I really started getting into GD a few years later, I just remember being so happy and pleasantly shocked that Good Riddance was by them, and I still adore the song 10+ years later! I also remember back around 2009/2010 when my brothers and I loved watching wrestling on the TV and Know Your Enemy was the theme song for SmackDown at the time! That was undoubtedly our jam before and after each and every commercial break

I imagine they have some serious workout routine to maintain the ability to do what they do on tour.
belinda jane Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I got to sing Longview on stage with the band. I've seen them live 21 times. That's all I got, haha.
