It is a nice thing that he gives away a guitar, every show. I agree that you should not expect to get the guitar, but everyone knows that Billie does it every show. It is natural to feel that once you get pulled on stage you will get the guitar. I don't feel that is entitlement, it is human nature. To use an analogy, you enter a race and win first place. Almost all races will give a medal for winning, this particular race does not. Even though it is not required to give a medal, you expect it because that is how it is done most of the time. You are disappointed. I think this is the same, the guy was simply disappointed and showed it. To make a long story short, I just feel people have been overly hard on this guy. I understand why he was disappointed, I would have been as well. We have all shown our anger in situations where we should not have, this is just one of those cases. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't think the guy could help feeling disappointed. I just think that having the expectation in the first place is something that should maybe be kept in check. He did give a guitar away, just not to the guy who played the best - and Billie's never said that's who he gives the guitar to. It's just whoever he picks. I agree that maybe he did it in the heat of the moment and has had time to reflect and realise he was lucky to get onstage at all. I hope so anyway!

Jonas01 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I agree with Billie. Giving away a guitar too someone less skillfull who is trying to improve and maybe could need a new guitar is a better choice imo rather than giving it to a more skillfull person who probably has a few more guitars.
WorkingForPeanuts Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I agree with what was said, I understand that Billie would give the guitar to the person who is still learning to encourage them to carry on learning. You shouldn't expect to get the guitar when you go up on stage ( even though fans know that they do that at every show ) or at least not feel entitled. That's probably why Billie doesn't let people who make signs go up on stage on Knowledge anymore ( he literally said during the show in Paris that if you have a sign it was not gonna happen ) probably because he knows that people who do that expect to get the guitar.
Hermione Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Remember when Billie's test for whether someone was allowed to play was to ask them how many years they'd been playing and then if the answer was satisfactory follow it up by asking them if they'd "had sex with a woman before" and adding that they "will tonight" and bringing them up (the funniest part about this to me is that he made this exact same lame joke at every show for at least 4 or 5 years ). That was a simpler time

That doesn't mean he had to be rude and disrespectful. He completely overreacted, even if it was a heat of the moment thing.

Have you ever overreacted in the heat of the moment? I would venture to say that everyone on this planet would give a Yes to that. I know that I have. Everyone is crucifying this guy for one minor incident. It seems very judgemental to me.

If someone does something to upset me, I immediately remove myself from the situation, therefore I don't have the chance to overreact. You can't justify this guy's behavior. Just because loads of other people might react similarly, doesn't make it the right thing to do. He shouldn't have done it. End of story.
IcyMoffatt Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 3 pages of comments about a guy who got upset because Billie Joe gave the guitare to the other guy who didn't know how to play. Seriously? I don't think we should keep talking it. It's pointless. It's Billie Joe who decides if he gave the guitare and to which person. He made a decision and he couldn't please both of them. That's it. Secundo, it's not right to judge the rude behavior of the guy who didn't get the guitare. He was upset, it's normal. Maybe he overreacted, but who here never overreacted in its entire life to an unfair situation? Sure, the guy should have enjoyed his time on the stage instead of thinking he was going to get the guitare at the end. I guess he just felt humiliated by the whole situation and it was the way he reacted.
