Backyard Skulls Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I was honestly expecting something with more narrative in it I guess? Like to tie in with the lyrics and current political climate. It's a nice concept though, but personally I think the Gilman thing would have worked better with Bouncing of the Walls or Outlaws - if they were actually singles that is I do like the mixing of the clips though, nice to see some old footage!
jengd Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 When I saw this was produced be GD etc i thought it would probably just be a performance video and was a little disappointed - I don't know what I wanted but I think they could make really ground breaking videos. Then, with how lone we've waited and some of the chat yesterday I wonder if it had been animated but good call Jane, filmed in Gilman! It's not ground breaking in anyway, but I like it more than I thought I would, love the intercut footage, particularly the Sweet Children bit and there were some bits I don't think I had seen before. It won't set the world alight but it's obviously where the band are just now, with this feeling of nostalgia which is not surprising really. Can't understand the comments though about them lacking energy, plenty of energy in the video I see, albeit cut so that it's not the focus. Like a lot have said, love Billie's blue shirt and Tre's hair, wonder if it was deliberate as it's almost monochrome otherwise. Don't see it contributing much to the promotion really though.
Chin for a Day Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'm not reading through all the pages of comments, so if I am repeating my sincerest apologies. I liked it. However, I don't see how it fits the theme of the song. I could see them using something like this for Outlaws. Overall, I can't help feeling they were required to do 3 music videos and blew threw their budget with 2.
Hermione Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 1 hour ago, Sarcasm said: this album, that has like 2 songs about the political climate in the midst of the most catastrophic president of all time, didn't even try to do anything with the lyrical content. Haven't been this disappointed in GD for a while, that was boring. Yeah but when the last video they did (Troubled Times) already made a powerful statement about the current political situation and totally trashed Trump what else was there really to do? The Say Goodbye and Bang Bang videos made quite bold points too so they've kind of already covered it. Since Revolution Radio is quite general in its lyrical content rather than talking about specific things, and they've already shown young people pumped up to make a change in its lyric video, I think it makes sense to now make a video that reflects the energetic nature of the song by showcasing the past and present energetic live performances of the band. 32 minutes ago, Scattered Wreck said: I'm not reading through all the pages of comments, so if I am repeating my sincerest apologies. Someone was just saying to me on FB that it would work with Outlaws or Too Dumb To Die, omg it would've been so perfect for TDTD! But since they're not releasing those as singles any time soon I think it also fits ok with this, doesn't reflect the lyrics but does reflect that it's an energetic and awesome live song.
Meliciraptor Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I think there could have been more storytelling especially since this whole "Turn it Around"/Gilman topic can be quite emotional. Even as little as a start screen summarizing the GD story/the importance of Gilman for Punk etc. would have added some context to support the message of the video. Edit: Just watched the video again and read through the comments on YouTube. The peeps seem to like it. Only positive comments so far.
Alan86 Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 It's a music video. I don't have anything more positive to say about it than that.
Guest Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'd probably never watch that music video again. Nothing really bad about it but nothing good, it's just there.
pols4tre Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'm a little disappointed in this, given how much hype it had. I thought it was simple, underwhelming and lacked a narrative (especially when you compare this to the videos for other RevRad singles and especially the ones from AI). Some cool camera angles though and it was nice to see old footage thrown in there - had a nice nostalgic feeling. I understand why they're linking it to Gilman etc, but for me it doesn't work with this song. There's so much to go on from the song's meaning that this sort of video for it just doesn't work. I much much prefer the lyric video. This for me just serves no real purpose.
AimieeSmith Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I was wondering is Jason off camera playing the lead guitar ? . Because I see Billie playing rhythm

That Dude Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Haven't been on for a while and then I come back to this! I've only watched it once and it always takes me some time to warm up to things but....not what I was expecting. I know music videos aren't that big of a deal these days but performance and flashbacks? I was thinking more of a party video similar to Holiday or something. The guys driving around town, getting into stuff. Their performance looks weird and badly filmed. The spinning camera - so bad. In a bad way. But again, I'll watch it a third, fourth, ten trillionith time and see what happens to my brain. It's probably gonna pop.
Christian's Inferno! Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I don't see why everyone was expected some amazing video. I certainly wasn't. And what's this hype everyone's talking about? You mean the one mention of the video several months ago? It's better than BB's music video imo. RR may not have been my choice as a single, but I do remember feeling excited about the album when I first heard the track. Hopefully the single will have the same effect on other people

Billie Hoe Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 They could have done so much more with this idea than they actually did. It was quite sweet in my opinion, but it was missing something. I would have loved it if they recorded themselves actually performing at Gilman, compared with the old footage of them performing in the early days. I love the old footage though ❤ 8 hours ago, navouxodonosoras said: I wonder why billie didnt use blue in the shooting. That would have made it a lot more emotional, kind of sad they didn't go with it. I know he doesn't use Blue during the live shows, but as people have said: it's a music video, not a live performance so it doesn't really matter.
Thatsername Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Not quite what I was expecting, I thought the car with the speakers on top would finally make an appearance. But on the other hand I kind of like how simple and plain it is. It perfectly represents the whole Revrad-era for me. It's about those three adorable guys making music together for 30 years. That's it! In crazy times like this, where everything always has to be even more spectacular than everything else, simplicity really stands out. Even if only real fans get the meaning behind it with Gilman and Sweet Children and everything. But that's okay. Spoiler And the boys look absolutely fantastic. I love Billie's shirt. It's totally 2012, but blue (the colour) really, really suits him. And it goes great with Trés hair.

If anything we've been hyping it up amongst ourselves on here for the past few weeks, but there's been literally no word from GD apart from Billlie's instagram ramblings and some radio airplay. For all we know the early planning/filming/mention was just due to the fact they're crazy busy with touring. Something more epic would've been fun, but I still like it for what it is.

petros Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Oh boy billie has aged He actually looks older than mike and tre maybe it's the three days beard look he has. But since it's shot on gilman they should somehow show it more than they did. I'm a huge fan and didn't realize it until I read it here. Now it's 10 times cooler as I see the throwback clips from gilman in between the band playing now in it. Why the hell isn't billie playing the blue in this though?
desertrose Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I love the Oakland A's even got in to the "celebration"
Q-Man Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I was really looking forward to this video cause it is one of my favorites on the album and they lyrics gave the video so much potential. But instead they decided to go with a very unenergetic and boring live performance with some old clips thrown in. For the first time ever I actually almost turned off a Green Day video before it was finished. Disappointed in this one.

Malleus Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 It's not bad, but it's certainly a let down of a video. Song had more potential for a better video than something like Still Breathing did, but I guess that got the better video because they wanted to push it as a single. I did enjoy the old shots and the little Sweet Children nod, as a Green Day fan I had a good time watching it, but it's not a very great video. Also the Bang Bang video is super awesome, way better than this one.
IcyMoffatt Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I don't love it, but I don't hate it too. It's just a ok video. Considering the reason why Billie Joe wrote the song, I would have expected something else for the video, not a performance one. It could have worked for another song, but not for Revolution Radio. Anyway, I still like the idea/feeling of the «DIY video» and old images.
