Mike Dirnt talks about unreleased Green Day material that will eventually "all come out"

You're more qualified to answer this than anyone- but you know how I had mentioned he had said that we'd already heard a lot of C&V (Network) already? I kind of think this references that we will all hear a lot of the stuff that's been written- not necessarily though B-sides but also through formal album releases as well. As in the unreleased stuff sometimes evolves and works itself into album material. Maybe I'm assuming too much, but from what I gathered about C&V it seems that the projects that are cast aside make their way into material that's ultimately released in some form...

I'm not more qualified haha, but I agree. I'm sure they must make use of old songs or just ideas for songs or parts of songs in new album material all the time and that would include C&V songs. Probably sometimes without us ever even knowing!

So long as a video of the missing songs from Bullet in a Bible comes out, I'll be happy.

Oh, and can we now put to bed the idea that C&V was 'stolen'?

Uh, yeah, we almost had a breakdown when we heard that instrumental on Cuatro.........

Yeah if C&V was stolen how do we have "Too Much Too Soon" which is one of the confirmed tracks. I guess the band decided not to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

"The Dookie Demos" would be an ideal release for Record Store Day, IMO.

I hope we get the 21st Century Breakdown version of Drama Queen

Maybe a 21st Century Breakdown (Butch Vig Mix)

They were so "nudge nudge wink wink" about it right from when they started telling that "story" that I can't believe anyone ever really believed it was :P

I still don't understand why they decided to make up the C&V story in the first place

I'm trying to remember whether I believed it when I first heard it. I think I probably did, but I'm assuming it never was

I guess it sounds better than "we made this album, but then realised it was crap".

there was a story about a fire in the studio too I seem to remember, no idea why they started with any of that but I suppose once you start, you get stuck with it.  Maybe the engineer in charge of recording the is now their iIT man running their website and Facebook haha

Yeah I think that's what it is. They've basically always admitted that anyway, saying they realised it wasn't "maximum Green Day" and they wanted to challenge themselves to make something better etc. But it sounds a bit cooler and less pathetic than we just made a sub par album with the added tapes being stolen part :P

I remember that. I don't think they went as far as tying a fire into the C&V story, it was just that a small fire started on their first day in the studio (to record American Idiot I think? pretty sure if it was when they started on C&V it definitely would've been part of the legend of it). Since it was the same studio Frank Sinatra used to use they joked it was his ghost that started it :P

Shenanigans only had one unreleased track on it though. Two if you count DUI on the early version

That's true, but it'd be nice for them to gather up the b-sides and off-album singles they've done since 2000.

I think Green Day should do another album like Shenanigans, but with their newer songs like Cigarettes and Valentines, When It's Time and Twist and Shout. Why haven't they done a studio version of Twist and Shout yet? Is it because they play some Beatles songs in the middle of it?

Pretty sure you're subtly trolling :really:

LOL No I'm serious, they should do a new album with all the songs they play live that aren't on an album. It'd be awesome!

I suppose that'd be the little reenactment in the beginning of heart like a hand grenade

All this shenanigans talk makes me want to hear some tracks live.

Does anyone know if they've pulled out haha you're dead live ever?

I'm pretty sure Maria is the only song from Shenanigans that they ever did live. It's too bad. DUI is really funny and would be great if they played it with Hitchin a Ride :D

I'd love to hear stuff from the nimrod era, there's a bunch of unreleased stuff. I think everything they recorded during the insomniac sessions was released though. also, I think they said they recorded Haushinka for dookie, so I think that's out there, and not just the demo version. and of course I'd love to hear Cigarettes and Valentines

There was a mysterious "Gett" song for Insomniac

Maria is from International Superhits, not Shenanigans

That means no live performance of songs in Shenanigans :(

They've played I Want to Be on TV, Don't Wanna Fall in Love, Espionage, Outsider, and Desensitized live :)

It was nicer (and probably also easier) to make up a funny story rather than explain the real reasons why they ditched the album. Someone has mentioned there was a falling out, haven't they? Most likely they just didn't want to talk about it.

Yes Desensitized is good live (with the baseball bat :) )
