I've actually been disappointed they haven't been playing Still Breathing on all these TV performances they've been doing. Still Breathing is a very radio-friendly song that a wide variety of people can enjoy. I think it's a great choice to play for these TV appearances. The idea of going on the shows is to promote the band, and I think that will have the best chance of succeeding compared to a heavier and/or political song. I agree 100% with this. It is probably the only song on the album that has cross over appeal and they need to continually promote it. Especially since it starting to chart on different types of charts.

I understand what you're saying, but I think it hurts rather than helps when the do it live on these shows because it just doesn't sound good. Billie is off-key when he sings it like with no other song. I love the recorded version and live in concert it does well because of the crowd participation, but the live studio is just bad. Their appearance on Colbert didn't really help it so this won't either. It's time to promote the next single.

The single has been doing very well so any promotion they have done has not hurt it. It can only help to promote it more. It is a passionate song that can appeal to many people on many different levels. Even if the vocals were not spectacular, the feeling behind the performances was there. It has entered more charts than Bang Bang and is still charting. I don't see Revolution Radio having much cross over appeal at all and it lacks the passion that Still Breathing has. I'm actually really surprised it was picked as a single because I'm not really sure what market they think it will appeal too. We will see, I hope it is successful, but I have my doubts.

We can agree to disagree🤗. I actually hope you're right about SB, I would love to see it continue to chart. It is def the most radio-friendly song with the most potential for crossover, but it's stagnating on its most recent chart (adult contemporary/rock) and I think it's run its course. Rev Radio has no chance of crossing over but I thing the band is fine with it charting just on rock/alternative stations. I think their primary reason for releasing it as a single is because the message behind it goes along with the Turn It Around documentary that will be released soon.

To me the lyrics refer to music that is based in protest and basically everything that punk rock stands for, and it's a punk rock documentary. In fact I would say that the song could be interpreted as being about the punk rock movement.

Billie said it is about chaos and people not feeling obsolete. I guess you can interpret that to be about the punk rock movement, but I think that is a bit of a stretch. I interpret the song to be much more than that, more like the chaos of the world in general. Which is more mass appealing than the punk rock movement. I can see how it can fit into punk rock and be used in a documentary. However, I really don't think they would release a song as a single to support a documentary that is not associated with the album. Plus, the singles that are released are not their total choice, it is the record company that controls that more. At least that is how I understand it. I don't really understand where they think Rev Rad will fit in, but they do. So we just have to wait and see how it does. l.

I've literally been praying for GD to do carpool karaoke ever since I first saw it. 4 hours ago, Niënor said: I'm less interested in the actual karaoke part of it than I am in the shenanigans that go on. Our guys are so goofy that it would be so much fun. I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Well, I just want to emphasise the promotional aspect of that, because I went and checked on YouTube and there's not a single car pool karaoke video there which has less than 2M views (and this includes an outtakes video, if you exclude that, you get 4.7M and furthermore the vast majority has 10M+ views), compare this to all the other promotional TV performances they had, most garnered about 150-200k views up until now, the exception being 'American Idiot' on Ellen which got around 500k (still less than a million).
Billie Joes Eyelids Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 So here is my question because I'm not a Corden fan. When there is a particular artist doing Carpool karaoke, do they announce that ahead of time? Or do they just list them as a guest or performer?
Jaded Idiot Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 James Corden is my favorite late night host. I'm glad he's got Green Day, but why's it have to be on a Thursday?

It's a really hard song to sing. but when he nails every note, damn does it sound amazing. He's definitely been getting better at it. I saw the first live performance ever of it, and he played guitar. It wasn't that great. I happened to see them again the next night, and notice he decided to ditch the guitar -- he knew he had to concentrate on getting better. And it did get a little better. Then saw it again six months later -- much, much better. He's been practicing for sure.

tdlyon Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I fucking despise Carpool Karaoke and I will lose respect for them if they agree to do it

It is kind of irrating to see your favorite artists making fool of them self on T.V in front of Million viewer. but you know it depend if the artist has sense of humor about it..and making thing enjoyable for them at same time. Maybe it will happen to GD.
Christian's Inferno! Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I don't like Corden either. He's just annoying to me and he seems to be everywhere. Like, just fuck off. If they do this Carpool Karaoke thing (I don't really know what it is), he'll probably just ruin it. I care about Green Day. Not James Corden

Exactly! It's the perfect opportunity to promote RevRad. However, as much as I would love to see them on it, I don't think they will be on it anytime soon.
Zebahar Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 The thing with the Carpool Karaoke videos is that they are usually done with people like Adele or Selena Gomez who already have such a huuuge following. I am not saying Green Day doesn't have a lot of fans, but if you look at their videos of their performances on Kimmel or Colbert, they have barely surpassed 200k views. I don't think the CK videos get views because of the format, but because it's always the biggest stars who do it. Plus, I feel like the guys are a little too awkward for it.
jengd Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 I think the pay might be more comfortable doing this than sitting in chairs talking about themselves and how they wrote this, that or the other. The interview they did last year fir Virgin Radio in U.K. was great, they broke into song, we'll sort of.

You're right in general, a lot of these people are famous as is, but there are others that I myself hadn't heard of. I definitely think Green Day would be at the low end of the spectrum, but I think their car pool karaoke video would have more views than another performance video would and thus be of more promotional value (my estimate is, it should be able to hit a million views in the matter of a few weeks, possibly months, but gain views more quickly than their TV studio appearences have done so far...

RHCP, who are pretty much equal to Green Day as far as fame, has 32 million views on their Carpool karaoke video. So yes, I would say you're correct.
