And it's really cool he did something like that, it's my grandparents' kind of music and I think it's absolutely cool that there is something Green Day-related for them to enjoy.
madafaka Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 I feel like some of you are not taking into account the reality that everything has to end at some point. Try for a second to imagine them as 70 year olds, still playing shows regularly. Then think about the fact that it is three different people who must all find satisfaction in sacrificing their time and energy into the band. As one said, Green Day is Billie Joe's life - that and his family probably - which is totally understandable as he is the brain behind Green Day in many ways. He writes the songs and most of the music, and is their face outwards to the world. It is his thoughts that are projected out to the public, and so he's bound to be really invested. Mike and Tré on the other hand, they have different roles. Important roles yes, but don't you think that playing bass or being a drummer gets redundant after 30 years? I'm not saying that they don't enjoy playing in Green Day, but don't you think that they would want to do something else with their time, now that they have the money and opportunities to go into another business? Out of the three guys, you see that Mike and Tré are pursuing other things outside the music industry, where Billie Joe mostly stays within it - doing solo collabs, writing for musicals and doing the odd acting job on the side. What I'm getting at is, yes Billie Joe will probably do music until he's not physically able to do so anymore, but isn't it highly unrealistic for Green Day to keep putting out records and going on tour? At some point, don't you think other things in life will call to them? I'm not saying an official split, but that they will not keep going like this for very much longer.
jengd Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I actually like it, much to my surprise, but I also am ridiculously happy that I gave my mother a copy and she like it too! 2 minutes ago, madafaka said: I feel like some of you are not taking into account the reality that everything has to end at some point. What does Tre do outside the music industry, I thought he did less then Mike and Billie? I agree Billie is Green Day so he's key and I think, God forbid, if a thing happened to one of them, the other two would call it a day. Just going to say Rolling Stones.

Tré has done a lot of hosting charity events and he's done campaigning for Zildjian which I don't count as being inside of the music industry in the same way. What I'm sensing is that he would go into the career of being a conférencier or spokesperson of some kind.
Sarcasm Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 you guys think they'll physically wilt? I saw fucking slayer (they sucked dick, boring AF show) a couple of years ago, they're bloody ancient.

You mean exactly like The Rolling Stones are doing? Yep, sounds good to me! Seriously, even David Bowie was still releasing new music in his sixties, right until the end he was making music. I dont know why this seems so implausible to people. I fully expect them to be around for a very long time.

There are still lots of acts that are a lot older than them that are still performing; Rolling Stones, Journey, Foreigner, Poison, Def Leppard, AC/DC. I think Green Day will be around and putting out music for a long time to come.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Tick tock, tick tock, 45 years old...not much time left Billie. He's only about 30 years younger than Jagger. Fucking hell.
Guest Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 If they don't change up their sound and do something a little more creative, they might as well. Throw people off and surprise some people. That's what you did with American Idiot and it was incredible. But you've stuck with that sound and formula for the last 5 albums. Time to evolve, time to take it in another direction boys.

Mmmmm, I really highly disagree with this statement. I don't think (and I really am not 100% sure, but I am almost certain) that I probably wouldn't listen to Green Day if it were JUST Billie and some other replacements.

Right but obviously he had a uh...hand in it. Im just saying he's not exactly a frail elderly man at the end of his rope. And our boys can certainly match that. Though presumably without having children at bizarre ages
Jesus of Seneca Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 4 minutes ago, RougeRogue said: And Jagger just had a baby last year too This I did not know,... and i'm only slightly cringing. Yeah, I guess people expect bands/ performers to have a fairly expectant shelf life, but I'm very glad they systematically dodge that path and refuse to quit. Actually, what i'm really glad about, is that the two options for a band are usually to have a short period of relevance, and then retire to a greatest hits band till the end of time, or to have their time and then just be done, and have a dramatic breakup; these guys do neither of those options. They keep going and they stay relevant. And actually i really enjoyed foreverly, its basically the kind of music i was raised on. Basically like how billie said before how his mother was really steeped in the old time country music, hence the name billie joe, basically the same applies to me. (well except the name)

Everyone else is replaceable but he's the face people remember. John was going to college and at the time the band was really only starting out. Tre has been with them for nearly 30 years. It's completely different. They are family at this point as much as we all know Mike is Billie's family, having been his brother since they were 10 years old and beginning this musical journey together. Billie plays in other bands. Pinhead Gunpowder have been together since 1990. Mike and Tre are not members. However the ludicrous idea that Billie would somehow continue Green Day without Tre and Mike as though they are insignificant backup musicians to the Billie show is something only someone completely unfamiliar with the band and the band members could possibly imagine. Also it speaks volumes as to their understanding and appreciation of the music they claim they love...unless they are simply a fan of Billie's most recognisable face.

Yeah. If for some unfathomable reason Billie did music on his own, I highly doubt he would ever disrespect the other members by continuing to make music under the name Green Day just by himself.
