BadgerLALA Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My mum likes them, special the more "calmer" songs. Her favourite song is Give me Novacaine and Good Riddance comes close after. She thinks the guys (Billie, Mike and Tre + the big three) look "fresh", she was a teenager back in the 60s and she rememberer how some bands and singers looked so slovenly and drugged. Mum and I went together to see them this tour and she loved it. Before that we have seen the swedish version of the American Idiot musical, which she also loved. Back in high school I were more obsessed with GD and I couldn't be quiet about them so one day the guys in my class (well there was only guys in my class, I read about computer and media) changed their computer backgrounds to a imaged of GD with the word "fags" just to piss me off . After that I never talk about what I like out loud.
Sister of Grace Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I know loads of people that likes Green Day even though it's not in the same way I like them The only friends I've got that are as much into Green Day as I am live in other countries. Got friends who will go see them when they come to Sweden but they would not go any further. My brother thinks they're alright and so does my dad. My mum has been to shows with me and she likes them, she's got a ticket for a show this summer too But way too often I get to hear that I'm insane for seeing them over and over again. But I don't really care. Green Day forever
solongfromthestars Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My mum is totally my tour buddy and gets sick of people asking "are you coming to the show?" I met my fiance at Green Day but he thinks I'm insane camping out. His reactions to me and Fran arriving 30 hours early in Turin were 10/10. One day I will talk him into joining me. My grandpa thought Billie needed a haircut but he always supported the Green Day love. If he was still around he'd tell me off for being irresponsible and then nudge me and ask to see all the photos. My grandma thinks they look too grumpy. Then there's my aunt who's repeatedly described the relief she feels when she imagines shooting me because she doesn't agree with me going to shows. None of my uni friends really like Green Day but most of them get it to some extent. One of my lecturers is interested in the logistics of it and the rest have no idea what's going on
Paola17 Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My parents think I'm crazy. Sure, they love some songs and what not, but they don't understand why 1) i'm always on top of their asses when it comes to news and setlist stuff (aka why on earth do I follow every damn show online) and 2) why I feel the need to see them more than once on this tour and even more so, travel to see them. They've resigned to the fact that I will do the above, but it doesn't necessarily mean they agree or understand. My roommate is just as crazy with Beyonce, so she doesn't question me. We both these each other like that, except I have the advantage of going to more shows for the same amount of money one ticket costs her. Then again, she can actually afford those tickets so... I don't necessarily interact with many others, or I try not to show how crazy I am, but I'm sure anyone that gets a glimpse of how I act towards this band thinks I'm insane
End Of The World Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My classmates know my obsession with GD. For example if they want to see me dancing, they just put on American Idiot. But overall, I feel like a shit because NO ONE around me likes GD as much as I do. The first reason why I went to the concert alone: I couldn't find someone willing to come with me. Fuck them, it was even better! 18 hours ago, bouncingoffthewallbja said: My brother frequently comes into my room while I'm listening to a GD record and implies that I'm an emo. This hurts me. A LOT.
The Ghost Dancer Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I only know very few people who really like Green Day. Everybody has heard of the guys before but I haven't met somebody who consider themselves GD fans yet. I remember that I once talked about GD at school to some classmates and when I said that according to most people my age GD's music wasn't considered "cool" anymore one of them replied that he thought in fact that it was still cool and that he was learning how to play Basket Case on the piano which made my day back then. However, I'm not sure how my family feels about GD and that I love their music as I don't talk about them regulary. Actually, my Mum called them Green Park once so she doesn't really have a clue I guess but I have noticed she likes BOBD and 21 Guns. My younger sister learned how to play BOBD on the guitar at school last year so I finally had an excuse to talk about GD at home but I found out she hates everything older than AI which made me give up on her quickly, to be honest. Still, I don't really know what my Dad thinks of GD. When I was younger I always had several GD CDs with me when I was travelling with my family so we sometimes listened to those on the car. Unfortunately, my Dad had never seemed particulary interested, he would always be like "Yeah, this is a nice song" or "Let's give it a try!" but never ask me anything about GD afterwards.
stories and songs Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My mom gets super into Green Day. She loves their music and always proudly discusses how amazing Billie was on Broadway, lol. My dad is actually the one who introduced me to them, and while he likes their music, he doesn't seem overly fond of them overall these days. When they had to postpone the tour for Billie's rehab he was kinda harsh on them, and things haven't been the same since. My friends could take or leave Green Day. I never talk about the band with them, lol.
Jesus of Seneca Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 My mother doesn't exactly love them, but since i discovered them, I've finally got her to like them I think - (and now she's always the first one to tell me when she sees anything about them, and participates in my obsession with them to some extent). My dad literally has no taste in music period, like I'd never be able to tell anyone what he likes, because he expresses zero interest in anything And then there's the idiots at school, a handful of them like GD, but they don't quite get my obsession with them. Everyone else though generally thinks their shit shit taste in music is superior to mine, and routinely make a note of how my music sucks. Side note though, my mother is a bit freaked out by Tre -she thinks he's a wacko
zeldachick14 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Well my mom knows how much they mean to me and she's responsible for getting me tickets to see them which I'm super grateful for. But...when my family was watching their AMA performance they were shocked by the "no trump, no kkk, no fascist usa" chant. My mom called it disgusting because they used their platform to do that. I thought it was great though. My mom and i got in an argument over it. Of course it doesn't help that my parents voted for Trump . Lastly, my older sister is always making fun of Billie and calling him a junkie and a drunk. When no one in my family knows i was an addict too. So that always kind of stings.
Thatsername Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 My husband likes some of their songs and went to one show with me and really loved them live, but he doesn't enjoy big crowds so much. I think he thinks I'm crazy when I'm returning from a gig totally hyped and want to go to the next show right away. He doesn't get how highly addictive GD concerts are and that every show is different, even if they play the same setlist. But he's okay with it. I have a very good friend who always goes to the shows with me, he's almost as crazy as I am, but when it comes to fangirling, I only have GDC My brother enjoys some of their older songs and really likes RevRad, I love that!

I remember her looking at me and telling me what "horrible lyrics" they had. Not horrible as in poorly written but horrible as in she basically thought they were bad people trying to be a bad influence on the listeners. I'm not sure what my dad thought, though i know he doesn't like them now. My brother hated them too and thought they were immature and people trying to be cool. He actually one day took my american idiot cd and scratched it up so i couldn't listen to it anymore. I remember he even made a home movie with his friend that was supposed to mock skateboarders who make those really cheesy skate videos(though it was honestly pretty funny). But he purposely used st jimmy as the soundtrack for it because he wanted to use "a song that sounded real bratty." In middle school and high school a lot of kids knew me as that kid who loved green day and i took a lot of crap for it. Even though the other asshole kids would bring up green day to mock me more than i ever brought the band up in normal conversation. Sorry to hear about your past experiences dude. People who mock others because they're different just suck. I was made fun of at school for being a huge Green Day fan as well. Luckily I don't deal with this anymore, but I understand what it was like for you. But I'm really curious about the video your brother has made with his friend, it must be really hilarious to watch.
Harrhian75 Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Nobody gets it!! Maybe I need to be a bit more selective about who I chose as friends but none of them are into GD! They all think I'm barking mad but it doesn't stop me from trying to educate them! I bought my husband 2 CDS for his birthday do he could play them in his car. That was 4 months ago and they are just gathering dust! 😑😑😑 I bang my head against a brick wall......😂😂😂😂
End Of The World Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 So I think I can summarize everything with this lyrics from It's Gonna Be Alright by Ramones: "It's gonna be ok, it's gonna be alright, it's gonna be that you're the only ones who understand".

Or they're just in the straight up shit music camp, or they're in the camp of, they'res no good rock after the 80's/ 70's. They're are literally only 3 people in my school that completely understand/ appreciate/ share my taste in music, and two of them are teachers I completely agree with your point here! One of the things that I and the majority of my friends have in common is a similar music taste. It's just something I think is easy to bond with people over! As for the teachers in my school, my year group saw two of them practically twerking to the music playing in a bowling alley a few months back On 13 February 2017 at 5:28 PM, End Of The World said: This hurts me. Not that i've got a problem with goth, but i'm pretty certain they've never heard of punk in their lives

St. Jonny Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 This morning I got up early because of a low blood sugar situation and when I went upstairs to get my quick fix for that the radio was on 'cause my mum listens to it in the morning and Still Breathing came on so I was like ohh yeah, and my mom was like this is Green Day right? She was like I have heard this a lot lately, it is the best song I have heard written in years from an old band, and she was pretty much dancing around and trying to sing to it. Was nice to wake up to since usually people around me get tired of me listening to them so often. Just takes the outside world a little longer to adjust, but deep down, they know they like it.
pouty bitch Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Just found this thread and I find it really interesting. My mam likes a few GD songs. She likes Basket Case, Macy's Day Parade and J.A.R. She thinks BOBD are AI are okay. She has also attempted a few of those songs on karaoke . However, she doesn't approve of Billie's swearing and she mocks them for the way they look, especially the eyeliner (although she sometimes says that Billie looks attractive). She also makes some extremely insensitive jokes based on their personal lives (such as September jokes , or implying that Mike and Tre are bad husbands because the were both divorced twice). She has also seen them live twice at festivals, but she says the shows weren't very memorable. Overall, I think she's just indifferent to them, but tries to show some interest for my sake. My dad owns a copy of International Superhits, but he never listens to it. He has also seen GD twice at festivals, but he never talks about it. His favourite GD song is F.O.D. He says that When I Come Around is a good song. He says that GD are "kiddie's punk", especially after Warning era. He also mocks them for "wearing ties" and "dressing like schoolboys". Other than that, he never mentions GD. My grandmother likes Good Riddance, but she says the rest of their songs all sound the same. My cousin says he hates GD, but I think he only says that to piss me off . The only GD songs he has heard are AI, WMUWSE, and their cover of The Saints Are Coming. At first he liked AI, but now he doesn't, and he never liked the other two. A few people at my school like BOBD, but they don't even know that it's GD. One of my friends likes BOBD, AI, Basket Case and Holiday. She also drew Billie for her art exam, but I think she only did it cause she thinks he's fit. Other than that, she doesn't care about GD. Another of my friends likes AI, Minority and Good Riddance, but that's it. Another of my friends only likes the guitar riff of AI. I have two more friends that claim to like GD, but I've only seen them listening to/talking about songs from AI, RevRad, Nimrod and the Trilogy.
Caroline Truong Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Non of my family member know nothing about GD..but they know who is Billie My younger sister like the video Still Breathing, when she asked me? who sang this?.. and I was like "What you don't know?" and she re-watch and oh!..she realize it was Billie.. she said he look British! I told her "he is half/english" and my brother thing Billie has a drug problem..
pacejunkie punk Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 My family thinks I'm crazy but they know me and my obsessions and they support my habit. I dragged my husband to see them with me in March and he enjoyed it. Now my daughter who is a fan but not a superfan is going to join me in August. They were happy when I found GDC because now I have people to talk to about GD. Takes the burden off them. 😁
