Ok, when I tried to find a video of them taking their picture I managed to find a picture of them taking their photo. If you search for 'green day selfie Mike 2005' in Google it should come up (sorry I can't seem to get it to post here)

This one?

It looks like they were ahead of their time, because that does look like the AI tour

Now let's get back to my original question- has anyone ever seen this photo that they took? I doubt it, though- but I thought it would be worthwhile asking.

I have never seen it. Most certainly it was never uploaded and they just kept it for themselves.

The screen shot is from VH1 Storytellers back in 2005. That screenshot is from them advertising the website by saying "Go to VH1 now to see exclusive photos from our Storytellers" and then they take the photo. I check out the website and unfortunately there is no picture of the selfie :(

For those interested though, here's the part of the video :)

 I can assure you people were taking photos of themselves like that many years before 2005. Only new part is the word selfie.

I suspected this would be the case.

Unfortunately not :( The closest there is is a demo of Good Riddance from the Insomniac sessions.

So the reason given that no predookie material made it to Green Day rockband, was because the masters were so old that they would have deteriorated. Why was handling the masters not a problem in 2004 when 1039SOSH was remastered? Or in 2007 when Kerplunk was remastered?

For remastering they don't actually need the masters remixing yes remastering no

Wow they really do just go in and make them louder. That's kinda lame... not really a "true" remaster then I guess lol.

Some artists/labels do that I'm not sure if that's what GD did for those two exactly

See the weird thing is when I talked to John, he said he'd recently listened to the masters of 39/smooth seeing if there were any alternate takes and there weren't.

Did he mention what shape they were in? Like if they were falling apart? Sounds like they're in better shape than what Tre mentioned.

It's not unusual to have back up copies made for masters Lookout's copy may not have been taken care of and maybe Billie and Mike forgot John has a safety copy

Well I certainly hope he's acknowledged their influence on his guitar playing at some point because if you listen to SLF's first two albums it's pretty fucking hard to miss :P

Ran out to get a copy of 1039SOSH the original. Used record store isn't too far from me haha. Anyway.... it looks like that's exactly what they did. :( They simply made it louder. The original sounds a lot better. Probably cause it isn't brickwalled to hell.

Not only the guitar playing, but also the bass lines are very similar.

Wow I had no idea. Makes me glad I have an earlier copy.

Yup. Looks like the Kerplunk! reissue from 2007 suffers from the same brickwall mastering. The original Lookout 22CD versions are superior.
