green day is Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 39 was the age one of Billie's brothers was turning on the day of the records release but I don't remember about the "Smooth" part. I think one of them wanted to name it Smooth and one wanted to name it 39. I don't know that we actually got an explanation of the "Smooth" part, just that the full thing came from compromise. 1 Quote

It's named after Billie's brother because we recorded it the day he turned 39, and he's a smooth character. - Mike Dirnt 3 Quote
Bastard of 1969 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 So, is Billie's Blue he used on Trilogy tour, the original one? Quote
Spike Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 So, is Billie's Blue he used on Trilogy tour, the original one? I believe it is. He's had a lot of replicas but if I remember correctly he doesn't use them anymore because he doesn't like them. 1 Quote

I think so because look: In Premier Guitar, when Hans showed Blue... - it is heavy relic, just like for guitars that are played a lot - you can see some stickers from earlier versions here (football helmet, Ramones logo, and small bit of Mojo's logo) - pickguard really looks old, yellow, like 20 or more year old guitars 2 Quote
