What are your favourite Green Day moments from 2016?

The moment we finally heard real news about RevRad. GDC was freaking out when we got "cryptic" messages from an anonymous account. That was pretty fun.

Also, when a random fan met Billie Joe in Oakland back in April and got a picture taken with him. I remember the fan telling us that Billie told him that the new album was going to come out in the fall. Turned out to be true haha.

Those are some of "my" favorite Green Day moments of 2016.

My favorite moment, not that anyone cares because a lot of people on this board either hate or dislike me, would be driving to the record store, buying the album, and listening to it on my way home with my elderly father.  I made my dad and mom listen to green day for so long and when my old man said he actually liked, Somewhere Now, I shat myself for I had them watch jaded in Chicago and my pops was like, "they're on drugs!"  My mom concurred.  I am going to masturbate.  Peace and Love.

I can't think of a better way to announce a show :P Really, during that week I was trying to explain to my parents that this is how things sometimes are with this band and got very weird looks.

Also the livestream treason.

I didn't get weird looks, but I get why you did  I mean, now I'm laughing, but I was really stressed out during that week :P

When I impulse bought a $250 ticket off of Stubhub and drove to Chicago over night from Fargo, ND to see the sold out show from second row at the Aragon Ballroom. Best crazy decision I've ever made

Dude, nobody gives a shit if you masturbates. Quit weaving in creepy shit into every single post you make.

Well, this was the first time my family was confronted with the weird side of Green Day, the confusion was understandable :P I had a lot to be stressed about that week (I was supposed to be taking an exam the day presale was supposed to start so I was dreading both failing and not getting the tickets. Thank God they put it off a week! :D

You already named so many great moments, I agree 100%! So I'll just add some of mine:

- Listening to Still Breathing for the first time. It really hit me. Wow. And watching the Still Breathing music video. Great stuff.

- Buying RevRad in a record store, going home and listening to it for the very first time. A moment just for myself where nothing else matters. There's nothing compared to listening to a new GD record for the first time.

- Watching the Circus Halligalli show on TV with the three boys. So funny, so amazing and so great to see them on a German TV show.

- Reading Mike's Instagram-posts in German

- Waking up to new videos, Instagram-posts, interviews almost every morning and watching it before work - made it all a lot easier!

- Buying my tickets to see them in Mannheim, Cologne and the Nova Rock festival next year!!

This has also been a fantastic year for the Instagram posts from the band. The ugly selfies in January, Billies record studio posts, the 'behold' videos from Billie, the Bang Bang announcement, all the selfies, and all the weird/random/bizarre posts. At times they can be very funny on Instagram and their accounts are great to follow.

As great as this year has been, I wish I was around for older albums to see what the initial reactions to albums were

I remember when Insomniac came out and there was a segment on MTV (maybe it was the Week in Rock program or something??) that had Tabitha Soren going out on the street and handing random people copies of them album, then interviewing them on their reactions. It got very lukewarm reviews, and I specifically remember one guy taking off his hat and taped on his bald head was a scrap of paper that said "it sucked." 😆 It was kinda a bleak time. Articles in magazines were reporting that the band seemed to be struggling and there were rumors of them breaking up. I am glad I experienced some of the earlier times, but they weren't always pretty 😜

I would've liked to be around to see the reaction to AI and 21CB, it would've been great to see, despite some people who would've complained about them "selling out" as usual

My favorite memory this year and arguably for the rest of my life was the Rough Trade Show!!  Where are my fellow attendees at?!?!

1. As many mentioned, seeing that photo on Billie's Instagram about having a new single called Bang Bang, it was 3 days before my birthday, it made me so happy.

2. Getting my first physical copy of a music CD EVER when I got Revolution Radio with my best friend, although at the time I already knew the whole album by heart because it came very late here, it was still nice to get it.

3. I have to agree on the Facebook live thread. I joined GDC on 2011 and never really posted much before that thread.

4. Watching every live event GD did and discussing it here while it's happening.

5. Billie talking politics. As much as people got bored of it eventually, it was nice of him to stand up for minorities and taking the time to try to explain it by replying to people on Instagram.

Overall it was a good year for GD and us as fans, all the TV appearances and the award shows were great as well.

In the end, I think we could say 2016 wasn't as important as 1994 or 2004.

GD didn't come up with a massive Punk Rock symbol like Dookie, or an epic Rock opera like American Idiot. They didn't hit the charts with monumental singles.

But this year we listened to 12 new powerful songs EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. Because of GD, the 11th of August will always be an important day on our calendars as well as the 7th of October.

Let's be honest. These days GD has been my (and I guess, your) first thought in the morning, at school, when eating and so on. I want my first concert and now I'm learning to accept the waiting.

So 2016 was a year just like 2015, 2014, or even 2017. And that's what makes it perfect. :)

That's a good one, I agree. I never got bored, Billie was clearly distressed over it all and spoke with passion. I think a lot of people could relate, and were grateful for it. I loved his instagram comments.

Taking a half-day off revision for the Bang Bang radio premiere, then dancing a bit too violently during the intro and making my headphones fall off, exiting the radio livestream in the panic to get them back on and then having to find it on Spotify instead.

I failed those exams too.

Listening to Bang Bang for the first time. It was the best come back ever.

And something more personal - that day when I was on the radio talking about RevRad. Amazing experience.

It is hard to accurately describe just how special this past year has been as a fan. I have never loved or respected these guys more, and I think I've had more fun Green Day moments to look back on in 2016 than I collected as a whole in the 11 years as a fan that came before that. It has just been the absolute best experience.

- Hearing Bang Bang for the first time was very memorable. I remember my heart was pounding because I was so nervous and excited to hear it. I don't think I got much work done the day it premiered on the radio, lol.

- Hanging out with folks on here during every live thread for the shows was amazing. Even getting the chance to see crappy, blurry 3-minute Periscopes of them playing was so much fun.

- Reading and watching every single new interview that came out. I don't remember the last time we had this much promotion, and after being disconnected with them for a pretty long time, getting to see so much of them has been the best.

- Buying tickets for the club tour was rather exhilarating—I decided to wing it and just buy two separate tickets because it was all GA, not knowing whether or not the second ticket would work out. That sense of determination to be somewhere isn't a level of dedication I feel about many things.

- Of course, going to my show in Philly. It was the most incredible concert, and I got to go with my mom after she had to skip the last tour while she was getting cancer treatments. I know we'll both always remember how great that night was.

2016 wasn't a great year overall, but Green Day made everything so much brighter. Years from now when I'm telling my future kids about my favorite band, this year will be a highlight.

When I first heard the opening riff of Somewhere Now on the volume all the house and neighbourhood should have heard. I was literally in heaven.

It's two things in particular, for me:

The first time I watched the 'Still Breathing' music video. I was with a few of my friends in my living room at the time, I paused it just so I could go watch it alone in my room. I should preface this with the fact that I don't generally watch music videos, the medium doesn't interest me much, never has. However, I knew this song was important for Billie to write, and so I wanted to see what they did with the visual component. I sat down on my bed and I watched it twice through. I haven't watched it since, except for showing my friend the video. I will never forget how I felt when I saw the camera shot of Mike and Tre playing so tight and Billie's empty mic-stand in the same frame. Addiction is an issue that's close to me, and many of us, I imagine. Its impacts are measured often in personal damage done but there is usually not much consideration for the impacts that certain addictions can have on those that surround you. It captured that quite effectively for me, and then when he walks in at the end it's a strong emotional moment as well. Green has had and always will have the ability to hit a particularly strong nerve emotionally and they did this one right, the music video definitely lived up to that song.

The second is Billie's performance of Ordinary World on Conan. There is something so special to me about an artist alone on the stage. Billie has always been able to conjure some seriously poignant moments when it's just him and the guitar, and this was another one. In a year where so much happened, at a moment in history where everything is anything but ordinary or simple, Billie's little ode to simplicity is masterful, and as always, delivered at the perfect time.
