The Green day song is kind of surprising but it makes sense. It wouldn't be my first guess. But Blink 182 Bored To Death really shocked me. Really? It's one of their weakest songs.

Yeah the streaming world is weird and has no relation to radio or any other type of success measure. The real crime is how many streams an artists needs to make any kind of money, a fraction of what equals physical sales

I think about the money made from streaming all the time.Β  Β It takes so much time and effort and luck to get a million plays.Β  Β  That's an honest to goodness hit single if you get that kind of attention.Β  Β But then you get a check for 4000 bucks?Β  Β

You'd have to have 7 or 8 huge hits a year just to live a low income lifestyle.Β  Β And you better not be buying hit-making instruments, those are expensive!Β  Β Great guitar?Β  Β Forget it!Β  Studio budget to produce said hits?Β  Β  You better have songsΒ 100 percent ready to go before going and beg for some free time!Β

It's absolutely ridiculous, so in our lousy modern world, it's perfectly understandable when a band 'sells out'.Β  Β  They have to sell cars, put their band on face masks and coffee mugs and whatever else to make money.Β  Β Especially with covid.Β

Anyway.Β  Β

I've gotten nearly 1100 plays on soundcloud, and my youtube is starting to rev up a bit, and I sold a painting once for a few dollars.Β  Β But I'm keeping the day job.Β

haha.Β Β

I saw the other day David Crosby (Crosby, Stills & Nash) went as far as to say "streaming stole my money"Β

My catalogue is much more reasonably priced if anybody wants to haggle.Β  Β

I guarantee you a cheaper price on my entire discography than any multi millionaire will do on theirs.Β  Β Β

This is a tragedy, it’s exploitation and the investors make it sound like some kind of glorious partnership like how proud they are to own this artist’s creative output and life’s work like it’s a rare collectible. It’s sickening

It really is sickening. Β It’sΒ such a difficult thing because I well remember when albums were so expensive and when CDs first came out they were something like Β£12 which at the time was a lot, so you can argue the industry brought this on itself, but Napster and then streaming have made it almost impossible for so many acts to make a living it really is tragic.Β

Everyone wants to know who is the next Beatles or Nirvana.Β

It's Green Day, except they write better songs and stay together and alive.Β

I read this post and thought Green Day was doing the podcast. Got so excited for a moment.

Well, here is the idea for Billie, Mike and Tre

Sorry! Rest assured if it had been an official podcast I would have given it it's own threadΒ πŸ˜‰

You gave me a new wish though. Can you imagine how cool it'd be the three of them having their own podcast? I need it now! πŸ˜†

Apparently he’s funding it from the Green Day PAC. So Green Day now also has a legit Political Action Committee no matter what happens with Billie’s candidacyΒ πŸ€”

This is why we need him back on Instagram. He would totally have shared this and had a laugh with us about it.  😒
