American Idiot: Revisiting the album that made Green Day stars

Before 2004 rolled around, Green Day looked like being another US punk band stuck in a creative cut de sac. But then American Idiot happened, and their lives changed forever...

Famous punk rock artifact for sale

This specific jack transported thousands of copies of the first Green day record on Lookout

Lmao if that's a "famous punk rock artifact" literally hundreds of thousands of random items used in the process of making and selling music just became famous punk rock artifacts. I thought the article would be satire but I don't think it is

Finally got round to watching the document @desertrose posted about, went to YouTube to watch the footage again and came across this which I missed entirely when it happened.

I'm not sure if this has been posted at any point, but here is a video about playing Knowledge during the tour.  They interview Henry, who Billie picked to play that song during their stop in Green Bay.  A cool video and a moment Henry won't soon forget.

I love those local news stories. In some ways that’s some of the best promotion you could ask for.

Impersonators

I love how the article says "guy tries to impersonate" and not "guy impersonates" because his impersonation pretty much sucks ass

Spoiler

Billie Joe and Freddie Mercury sucked the most

Looks like we’re about to be gifted with a GD eyeliner called Basket Case from Kat Von D!   There’s a post on instagram photos thread referring to this and I’ve just spotted another one on Instagram which looks like Billie Joe and Kat filming a promo shoot.  Sorry, can’t link.  My first thought is amazing as I love her make-up but also about time, for me it’s a match made in music/cosmetics heaven😁

The 50 Best Protest Songs of All Time

50. Green Day, “American Idiot”
The title track of their 2004 album “American Idiot” ushered Green Day into the 21st century with the pop punk snark of their youth with the anger of the Bush era. The album opens, “Don’t wanna be an American idiot / Don’t want a nation under the new media / And can you hear the sound of hysteria? / The subliminal mind-fuck America.” A direct response to the nation’s deteriorating international perception and its internal hysteria in response to 9/11, “American Idiot” looked inward and outward simultaneously and cemented Green Day’s legacy in the history of punk. —Hilary Saunders
