Guest Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Billie sounded like shit during Still Breathing. Maybe he's not feeling well.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 That was fucking tedious! Billie sounds like a strangled cat. It's like a bad audition for X Factor Wtf
Fuzz Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 That mix was pretty terrible. American Idiot was way too slow. Still Breathing was ok, but the mix was still fucked up. I don't think Billie's vocals were amazing, but the bad mix didn't help at all.
Ritz Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Why is Still Breathing not available on Ellen's Youtube anymore?
1039Revolutions Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Just my opinion, but I would have preferred to see something like 21 guns with the AI cast on Ellen, rather than your typical live Green Day performance. It's just not the best fit imo.
RougeRogue Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 If they won't play it live, they (particularly Billie) won't get better. And I think that's the reason we're not liking Still Breathing yet. It hasn't been played so it still sounds as unpolished as all the other songs did during that one session (its name escapes me) a while back.
letsdanceon Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I feel like he's so nervous about playing it live that he isn't relaxing enough to make it sound better...I didn't think it was terrible or anything, just not polished

And like I said, a huge indicator of that is the fact that he continues to keep his eyes closed through the whole thing. He's said before- he'll get emotional during a song if he looks out into the crowd during it (he said this was usually the case with September) so he usually avoids it. That's what gets to him the most. And it looks like the same is applying here.

Maybe they need more practice. I dunno....

I heard it live too, in Detroit. But he knows a room full of their diehard fans are going to cut them some slack, and I would imagine that makes him feel pretty comfortable. I think playing a song like this where he lets his guard down so much in the public eye makes him nervous, and maybe he questions whether he is making the right decision making it a single and that's why they didn't play it for any of these other television appearances. That's just my guess.

I don't buy into that argument. They just sounded off unfortunately. Bad mix + not enough warm up or something.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Honestly SB hurt my ears I wonder if acoustics in Ellen's studio had anything to do with it or BJ is having trouble with his voice - he is chewing gum a lot lately - probably just wishful thinking on my part.
tresexy101 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 It's time to say the inevitable. Billie Joe and his band, Green Day, may have just put out their last album. Billie was trying to seek the fountain of youth and was unfortunately not able to find it. This performance was hard to watch. Green Day has washed up and will hang it up. The next 2 albums Reprise and GD will put out are B-sides, the 'lost' Cigarettes and Valentines songs, etc. ... Awesome fucking band but, in your heart of hearts, (after watching GD on Ellen) can you really see Billie Joe and Green Day going on another world tour after RevRad? Peace and Love. Illuminati.

DookieLukie Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 American Idiot sounded amazing. Still Breathing was rough.
Whatsinaname Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I think they rocked the Ellen show! He knows what he's doing. He's a professional and it shows in this performance. Whomever their designer is in this era, is on point. They all looked polished, so to speak. My sister watches Ellen everyday and sent me a text saying she can't believe she's just watched this! Share the love of Green Day! Also glad they played Still Breathing. About time.
Jarem Underway Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I think you're all high af, I just cannot agree with all the people saying SB performance wasn't great, or some of the other crap you're throwing at it, it was very good and Billie's voice sounded just fine... oh, and the tresexy guy, he can go throw himself off a bridge.

Even though Wake Me Up is another song that makes him emotional, there was still years of distance between losing his dad and singing about it. This one is a lot more recent, I don't see why that's unreasonable to think that maybe he's still dealing with some residual junk even though he's technically "better." I just think being an awkward person as he has admitted, this is really putting himself on display for the world to see. Who *wouldn't* be nervous?
Whatsinaname Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 This band can play into you any way you want to hear it.
jengd Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I feel like I am listening to a whole different performance of SB. Yes Billie is obviously nervous at the start, unusually for him you can hear it right at the very start and I think that maybe tightens the voice slightly but I loved it. I love these guys for their honest emotions and relatability, their passion and fire so was it note perfect; no but it was intense and amazing and sounds great to me. Also, gotta love that a successful, professional musician with a long history like Billie gets nervous and emotional about a song and not be all hyped on his own ego, there's no "phoning it in" here.
Nowhere Man Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Guys I think you are exaggerating here. Although the mixing wasn't at the best level, I think Green Day made a good performance and although Billie was very emotional and nervous his vocal performance wasn't bad, I even loved this "unpolished" version, it has the soul, and that's the most important.
