I'm also pretty sure that there are no age restrictions other than minors under 14 having to be with their parents or another supervisor. Pretty sure all venues sell alcohol, but you'd just get ID'd when buying alcoholic drinks then which also makes a lot more sense to me than forbidding minors to go in completely. Yeah, never heard of that apart from clubs.
DeJennsitized Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 18+ for a Green Day show is surprising. I've been to a fair amount of small gigs that were 18 only but they were held in pubs/clubs. I've never been to that particular venue either so not sure what it's like - I saw that it's a really small capacity though, 10-15k? Could be an alcohol thing - maybe they have alcohol onsite and don't want to have to check ID once inside the venue too - idk. If it helps, the Belfast show is 16+ and is probably a bigger capacity so those who don't want to risk the Dublin gig could always make the two hour trip north if they're able! There's a 24/7 bus that goes between the two.

Maybe its different in ireland and they are more strict, but Ive never seen someone denied at the door because of their age. 9 hours ago, bouncingoffthewallbja said: I can't imagine the security being too strict because it'd be a nightmare to check 15,000 people's ID, so yep, I think I'm gonna just go for it. MCD have specifically tweeted that it is over 18s and in response to a direct question they have said ID is required. I've been to gigs where I've had to show ID here in Dublin. I'd advise caution. After all, if they tell you to have your ID out with your ticket as you are getting it scanned it only takes three extra seconds to check. They'll do it.
Christian's Inferno! Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 They're also playing in Belfast in Northern Ireland. If you're able to go there, that might be a better option

I agree with you, in fairness though they're only going to ID people who look under 18 not the whole venue

I'd definitely be attending with an 18+ if I'm lucky enough to get a ticket. I'm just going to bring my ID and just explain the situation and hope that there will be some nice security there. Worst comes to the worst, I'll probably just sit outside of the place!

I could see why the decision could be alcohol-related, but the unfortunate thing about that is that an entire portion of the fan base is being cut out of being able to go, if that makes sense! I'd love to be able to make Belfast, but I think I might just try Dublin and hope for the best. I've been to shows in Dublin at other venues and I have to say, the security I dealt with have been nothing but nice and good humoured. Hopefully the security at RHK can replicate that!! 2 hours ago, JoeFrusciante said: I agree with you, in fairness though they're only going to ID people who look under 18 not the whole venue That is true, although I've had people say I look older than I actually am so hopefully they haven't been lying to me all these years!! 5 hours ago, MysticManiac said: They're also playing in Belfast in Northern Ireland. Fingers crossed!! 21 hours ago, Zelda said: Right as you're walking in, start talking about taxes and bills and other adult things, they'll either let you pass because they think you're an adult or avoid you because adult things are scary. That is a really good idea! I'll need to do a crash course in the Irish Constitution and political system before June
St. Jonny Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Quote Shame it has to be like that at some shows. Don't have to worry now but I had to miss Motorhead back when I was 18 because I was only days from being 19, and couldn't get in. Luckily I caught them quite a few times before the godfather passed.
bouncingoffthewallbja Posted December 1, 2016 Author Posted December 1, 2016 I just read this on MCD's (the show promoters) website and I am so f*****g happy right now!! "Please Note: Over 18s ID Required (under 18's must be accompanied by an adult over 25 years)" http://www.mcd.ie/home/fn.php?c=7058885&ar=greenday

I've never been ID'd in Germany but it definitely won't happen now since I've let my beard grow for like 4 months lol. Gotta prepare for the winter.

That is great news, as I'm sure there's loads of people who can get you in even here! I went to an MCR gig with my sister about 10 years ago, and it was a 14+ show unless you could be accompanied by someone over 18. I was 15 and my sister was 12 and she was much more worried about breaking the rules than I was. Luckily they never checked for ID so we were fine!

My dad will be going with me bc for some reason he takes a creepy interest in the music I like and insists on "seeing it performed first hand"! Ooh, I like MCR too (not as much as Green Day though!!!) Good luck for the ticket sales today! Hopefully we'll all be lucky

That's true but I just don't get why they wouldn't allow someone over 18 to accompany them instead! 25 seems excessive. Even when someone is learning to drive, the age limit for someone to be with them in the car is over 21!

Maybe they have had bad experiences with having teenagers at gigs by themselves. I wouldn't know. But at least younger fans will be able to attend either way.
bouncingoffthewallbja Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 I got my ticket for Dublin one minute after they went on sale and I am so happy right now
Joe. Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 14 hours ago, Jenn. said: That's so bizzare! Over 25?? Probably related to the "Challenge 25" policy in the UK, which is if you think the person trying to buy alcohol or tobacco looks under 25 then you ID them.

Paola17 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Not with music per say, but with some theaters here in America, if you are under 17 and want to see an R-rated movie, you have to be accompanied by an adult 25 years or older. I've been to shows where they say they'll ask for ID's (never do) and do have age restrictions, but they've always been at small venues (under 5k cap). Even then, due to a fear of being rejected (when I was 14 and it was an 18+ show), I never tried for those places. Heck, I still can't attend a 21+ event

Róisingreenday Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 I'm so dumb but I only realised there were age restrictions last week. I'm 17 and have been a fan of green day since I was 8. I'm going with my friend who is 19. Hoping the security will be sound and let me in without ID.

Idk how it is where you are but the usual situation is - either no restrictions or minors need to be chaperoned by someone 18+/whatever the adult age is. Either way, you should be fine. Have fun!
