A lot of people on this forum can't hear anything bad about the band, and refuse to think anything negative can be said about GD. If AI didn't come out, no one would care, if they did, about 21st Century Breakdown. There would be no hype for any other releases, and I'm pretty sure that Reprise would drop them. The band would probably resort to Adeline Records. In 2004, before AI came out, the world wasn't anxiously awaiting a new GD release. The band was regarded as a "greatest hits" band that mostly plays songs from an album released a decade ago. How were Blink gaining relevance where Green Day weren't? Genuine question. Do you think they're relevant today, or would be if AI didn't exist? Of course a lot of people here are like that, it's a forum for Green Day fans but just because someone disagrees with you on an aspect of the band doesn't automatically mean they can't hear anything negative at all. I can talk shit about certain GD things, sure, but I just happen to think in this case that if AI hadn't been released they wouldn't have completely faded into obscurity. There are a lot of bands still about who never reached Dookie's heights. If AI hadn't been released, who's to say how the alternative record would have done? Definitely not AI's success, but not necessarily badly enough for Reprise to drop them. But sure, maybe they would continue on Adeline. Doesn't mean Kerrang wouldn't still cover them.
