This is so funny! I actually thought about it yesterday and had a big laugh picturing Billie winning a Nobel Prize and I was sure someone on here would have thought the same thing. GDC never lets you down :D

How come?  I thought Dylan was a deserving winner.

Well if any songwriter deserves it it's Dylan, no doubt about that, and I'm glad lyrics are being acknowledged as a valid artform. But the Nobel Prize seems like a bit too far, it feels like it's crapping on the entire world of literature. There should be a Nobel Prize in songwriting, because it's definitely a worthy practise.

I think everyone is giving this poster a really hard time, like I get they asked for your opinion but how many people have to say "NO WAY YOU'RE CRAZY" in different words for them to get the point?

Even though it seems pretty unlikely we know that literally ANYTHING is possible in years to come.

If you would have told me that Green Day would have had a video game in '94 I would have died laughing.

Check your biases dude. You confuse Green Day's impact on your personal life, as impact on society as a whole. Green Day is a relatively big band in the context of popular rock music in our particular place in time, but in about a century they will have been forgotten. You might think "they were the fathers of pop-punk", but even there most of us as fans have a bias as to how impactful that genre actually has been. Many of have listened a lot (and in periods of out life, probably exclusively) to other pop-punk bands, thus warping our perception of it on a larger scale. Fact is, pop-punk is the second wave of the original punk. Those old bands, like The Ramones, are the ones who will have a small place in history under 20th century rock subgenres. Another point to be made is the fact that there are just a lot more mainstream artists out there now, than back when Dylan broke out. There is a special place in music history reserved for artists like Dylan, The Beatles, Elvis Presley and a few others, because they were the first artists who started to change the culture of popular music into what it is now. It's an exclusive club, and they don't take in anymore members.

So don't take it for granted when Green Day puts out a record that hits the top of the charts, or when you hear one of their songs on the radio. It's actually amazing that they are still around after 20 years of successes, in a musical climate that are getting tougher and tougher on rock acts.

With songs like "Haha You're Dead!", "Reject", and "Platypus" that would be hilarious. Good band, but I don't think they have done anything remotely deserving of a Nobel Prize.
