Justin Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I would say the AI era and 21CB eras are different enough not to be classed as the same period. That being said, I would say 21CB era was when they hit their stride with live shows and promotional work
GodzillaREMIX Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Give me the "Fat Elvis" era (circa 2000)! Good topic, by the way...
DecanoLP Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 My favorite is probably the Insomniac era. Just pure madness. However, I think that the time between Kerplunk and Dookie is extremely underrated. I love their shows from 1993.
Chin for a Day Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I'm going with now. Rev Rad is awesome, all the guys are doing and looking great and I can't wait to see what happens in the future.
straighttohell Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I fucking love ALL of them so much for different reasons, but the 90s/early 00s (Dookie-Warning) will always be special for me. It's when I first got into them, so for nostalgic reasons alone i'll always melt over those days. Those 4 records are perfection IMO. But even objectively I challenge anyone to watch the Woodstock mud fight performance and not have your jaw on the ground the entire time. An absolutely incredible piece of footage of a band killing it in their prime. Or watch them on that Australian TV show where they hijack the instruments and play The Grouch, see if you can get through it without having a huge dumb smile on your face.
stories and songs Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 For some reason I just went back and read a Rolling Stone article right at the start of the 21CB era, and was completely taken aback by what a stressful read it was. 21CB is my favorite album and I associate that time with so many great things, but it's abundantly clear just from that one piece what a stressful time it was for them. The article painted a picture of Billie being this talented but tormented songwriter who makes himself crazy until he makes a song absolutely perfect—which isn't exactly news, but it just made me a bit sad. I look at where they are now compared to where they were then, and just feel so happy for them to have seemingly broken out of negative cycles they were stuck in. The RevRad era has been filled with so much enthusiasm and joy, and the freshness of it all makes me feel like I'm discovering them for the first time—like all of the best parts I'd always seen in them are completely at the forefront now. I love this period so much that I just want to freeze it and hang on to it.
TimmyChunks Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 All of them- I've grown up with them as the soundtrack to my life Dookie/ Insomniac- I was 14/15 and the teenage angst and craziness/ trying to make sense of the world in the songs connected perfectly Nimord- coming of age, evolving, expansion of horizons. I was 17 and starting to gain a fuller sense of the world Warning- college, again, another step in their evolution and my experiences as a person AI- resonated really well with my newfound political awareness in my early 20's and reflected angst about world events so well 21CB- well, this contained my wedding song (LNOE), so this connected with my life in many ways Trilogy- from the party to cleaning up, this is what I experienced during my final evolution into adulthood RR- fits perfectly with where I am now, in my awareness of recent troubling circumstance (RR/BB/Say Goodbye/ Troubled Times) as well as triumph of experience and perseverance (Still Breathing). They've crushed it in every era, and always been 100% relatable and relevant.
PursuitOfEpicness Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Music wise? Dookie to Nimrod! Style wise? Well Dookie to Nimrod But altogether this era is making me super happy and I love how much they've grown as people and a band
fatalforce3 Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I'd have to say the 21st Century Breakdown era, the tour was probably the best one they've ever done all things considered and I think they sounded the absolute best they ever have at that point. I'm really excited for the Revolution Radio era and think this could be one of their best ones ever but it's a bit early to tell. Here's hoping though!
End Of The World Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 What I really love is the mid 90s era. Insomniac is just fantastic, I mean all that powerful tracks like Westbound Sign, No Pride, Geek Stink Breath and Stuck With Me are the peak of revival punk-rock along with Dookie and Nimrod IMO. Then I'd put American Idiot's era. The re-explosion of punk is great too (Letterbomb, Jesus of Suburbia, She's a Rebel) even if I don't think 21CB is as good as AI. Third place for THIS ERA! Revolution Radio is the proof that GD will never die, and if they will they want "A BETTER WAY TO DIE" lol. Then I'm saying Warning era (really underrated) followed by Trilogy (underrated too) and last the early era. There is a very slight difference amongst them, I consider all the albums almost-perfect, cause I really like GD. So mid 90s > AI > RevRad > Warning > Trilogy > Early. Just my opinion.

I think it might really become my favourite in the long run, for all the great reasons you described in the last 3 sentences. However, the 21st CB era was very exciting as well, I saw Green Day live for the first time and they completely stole my heart at that point.
Collingordon96 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 mid 90's all the way. Especially 94-95. Insomniac is a monster jammer.
