Completely uncompressed. No crap loudness added. Mastering is a problem on CD because you have to mix and compress it down to fit the CD. And this is where it's crucial. A good sound engineer will add just the right sheen of compression that it won't drown out the complete range of instruments. A bad sound engineer gives you American Idiot, and 21stCBD....on CD. Have you heard the vinyl or 24bit digital versions of said albums? Without any of the crappy mastering? They sound fantastic. Sorry little technical stuff there haha. But yeah this sounds more like a manufacturing defect. Something went wrong at the press. not to exactly correct you, but just adding to what you have said. Most analog recordings are recorded on tape. Uncompressed, analog is indeed the way to record a vinyl-faithed project but there is such thing as a bad remaster on vinyl. I have a few. They are not the worst, I dial up some good settings on my receiver to get a good sound out of them. Some are poorly mixed like that because they are bootlegs copied from cd and others because the album was recorded digitally and never remastered specifically for vinyl. An example of the former is The Power to Believe by King Crimson which was never released on cd and bootleggers used the cd files to cut the vinyl. An example of the latter is My chemical romace 's three cheers for sweet revenge and the black parade (and I think all of their records actually have never been properly mastered, although they have definitely been mixed to sound acceptable). These records ( like many other recent music releases) seem to not have been mastered for analog/vinyl properly and recorded digitally from the beginning. An important factor is the way they were recorded like you mentioned but not all albums are recorded on analog, many albums, even big label albums are recorded digitally. Having said that, regardless of the existing loudness nuisance on a lot of CDs, vinyl can also have a poor quality mix.

Just got my Rev Rad red vinyl for the GD store. I love it, but the only problem is that Somewhere Now and Bang Bang skip like crazy. Was wondering if anyone else here is experiencing this problem, or am I just unlucky with both my records? I know it's not my turn table because I just tested out American Idiot and Insomniac and both play flawlessly. I guess I'll email the Green Day store and see if I can get an Exchnage or refund? I dunno... I apologize if this has been posted/answered already, but when I searched to see, I didn't see anything on it. Thanks! Shit I have the green FYE one and those two are the ones that skipped

It skips during somewhere now and Bang Bang. The songs are there, but the contact between the needle and the record is not constant, so it leads to skips, crackles and pops, in the same way that a scratched record might. I've not listened to my copy yet, but I believe this is what others are saying. 11 minutes ago, luketrebilliemike said: How does one do this How to clean vinyl records. Don't know how to adjust arm tension, it's not something I've ever needed to do, but I imagine that depends slightly on your record player. Bollocks
Ugh... Clean your vinyls guys. I put it on straight out of the sleeve first time and it skipped. I inspected it and noticed a few small bumps on the first two tracks. They came off easily with a quick brush. The factory should have done this. Never put a vinyl on brand new out of the sleeve. If it's not clean it could damage your needle.

I also have a very cheap record player without any possibility of regulation and in the past I solved the same problem with other records in this way. But as @Dirty Liar said, before just try to clean the Vinyl very well, probably the factory didn't accurately clean them after the pressing process. Second favourite son
Just sat down to have my first listen. Got about 30 seconds into somewhere now and it's the skippiest fucking record I've ever owned (including some quite well used ones I've inherited from family). Done what I can to quickly clean it, not that there were any obvious problems before playing, but my proper vinyl cleaner is in my flat and I'm at my parents house - looks like I'm gonna have to hold off on listening for even longer while I drive across London to get that. Ugh. I actually wanna cry right now, been waiting so long to listen to this and now I finally have the time to do it properly it's all gone wrong. Makes me wonder what the point in waiting so long was. Yeah I know I'm being melodramatic, I'm just really disappointed cos I've been looking forward to this since ordering on the 11th of August. I know it's not only my copy that's affected, I know others have waited this long too, and I know it's not the end of the world. But unfortunately that doesn't make it suck any less. People yet to receive them, I hope all your vinyls are OK. There seem to be plenty of perfectly good ones out there, and others seem to have been able to fix theirs. I'll keep you all updated on how my attempts at getting rid of the skipping work out.

This is not a very common problem, but actually it happened to me two more times, with David Bowie's Blackstar and the Who 50 years collection. It's always a good thing to do with brand new vinyls, but usually it's not "compulsory" to enjoy the record, it seems that the factory that printed them didn't do a good cleaning. I think that product is fine, anyway the guide posted earlier is pretty good (http://www.discomusic.com/101-more/6193_0_7_0_C/), and a microfibres cloth could work too, someone just uses distilled water and a brush, with neutro soap. tresexy101
I didn't buy the vinyl but last night I got the C.D. and on Somewhere Now, the very last verse, there is a little blip (or skip). I was very gentle opening the C.D. since I'm a very gentle guy. I just went out to pick something up because I thought the blip was from going over a bump in the road last night but nope, it's still there. I know this is the vinyl thread but I just was giving my 3 cents. I haven't listened to bang bang yet on the C.D. because I have no self control and have listened to that song over, well, over way too many times via social media. I may just buy another C.D. because they are cheap and I really love Somewhere Now. Well, Peace and Love.
Jimmy Strummer
A little update from my end: got my red GreenDay.com copy in the mail today, opened it up, and my needle made it through Somewhere Now and Bang Bang perfectly fine. This leads me to believe it was just a defective batch that got sent out, and there's not a whole lot you can really do in that situation.

LazyBones
I just got mine today and even after cleaning it off it still skipped and mine skipped on most of the songs on the album besides like maybe one or two. very upset and disappointed . 96Tomato
The packing slip said mine mailed out on October 4th, I just received it yesterday (10/8) and just got around to listen to it. A few things I a gotta say about it, I took it straight out of the sleeve and put it on the turntable, I'm currently on the 4th song and it hasn't skipped at all. My only complaint about the vinyl is the mastering, it's mastered quite hot (loud and not so dynamic) so it hits pretty hard on the ears. But the one thing above everything, I'm loving this album so far.

Second favourite son
Attempted to clean it, still horribly skipping. I've emailed customer service asking them how to return it and get a replacement. How on earth did they manage to let such a dodgy batch out without picking it up at quality control?
