God there’s no pleasing some of you 🤣 if we never got new music you’d complain, we get new music more often you complain it’s not good enough. Just take it for what it is, extra songs to finish out the era. I’ve never known a group of fans to be sooooo critical about every last thing9 points

Fuck Off is the funniest shit ever . Especially when it sounds exactly like Murder City (with someone repeatedly singing "fuck off" over it lol). Now gonna listen to the rest. All seems like classic Green Day b side material to me, it's not album quality but fun To me it seems more like a hivemind where you have to like/dislike/rate high/rate low the same songs as everyone else, rather than just being expected to like everything6 points

A couple of years ago there was a rumour that Billie Joe was having problems with his voice. I don't know how true or false those claims where, but listening to Billie Joe's performance on the two acoustic songs, his voice is as clear and strong as ever. Still the complete package, singer, songwriter, musician and performer.6 points

Billie going "stick your Bible and shove it up-" and cutting himself off is so funny I like Suzie Chapstick acoustic but it's pretty similar to the album version. I prefer this Father to a Son isn't one of my favourites but I much prefer the vocals on the acoustic version, they sound weird and nasal on the album. The low key guitar suits the song much better than a full on orchestra too5 points

Underdog is actually growing on me a fair bit. I'd definitely say it's the best of the 5 new songs. Probably a hot take cus some people seem to think it's the worst (or close to it) The song Fuck Off seems to be interesting lyrically because it seems to be targeted at Trump supporters, which I think is sort of a contrast to how he spoke about Trump supporters back around the first Trump term where he seemed to be somewhat sympathetic to their concerns even if he was completely against Trump. But I understand why he'd now be like "If you still think Trump is on your side after how much he's fucked everything up, just fuck off"5 points

OK Stay Young and Underdog are pretty interesting! Stay Young is really great musically and Underdog is cool. Lyrics are like Minority part 2 and "I wanna be your underdog" has to be a nod to Iggy. And the guitar part is sick. Although Billie isn't fooling anyone calling himself ugly lol5 points

since these are "deluxe edition" songs, they sound exactly what i expected nothing too "special", not bad, but hey, i will never complain about new greenday music! a new live-album would be nice, and hopefully they wont leave us in the dust too long until a next lp suzie chapstick is still one of their most beautiful songs they have ever written 🥰5 points

Whatever your opinion on these new tracks are, at least this gives us a reason to listen to the original album like a hundred more times5 points

I finally got a chance to listen to these new songs and yeah I don't know what they were going for here. None of them even feel like they belong with the rest of the album, they're honestly closer to The Longshot or the new PHGP album than Saviors. Even though Belushi didn't leave much of an impression on me, I was fine with that track when I thought at the time that it was just a leftover for Saviors. But no, these songs were apparently made after Saviors specifically for the Deluxe which just makes me wonder why it's so much worse than the actual album? None of the tracks work as actual album tracks imo. I think Ballyhoo, Fuck Off and Underdog work as "B-side" type tracks even though they aren't actually B-sides. Smash It Like Belushi has only shrunk on me with more listens. Stay Young is extremely boring, repetitive and overly long. The acoustics seem unnecessary, they don't improve the songs, they're barely any different and I don't see why anyone would choose to listen to them over their originals. Very disappointing release and I didn't have very high expectations anyway. If I were to rank the entirety of Saviors + these new Deluxe songs, I think all 5 of the new tracks would probably rank at the very bottom. Maybe a couple of them would surpass One Eyed Bastard (which is my personal least favourite of the og album, I wish they were releasing a music video for a different song). I'll give them some more listens but yeah, not expecting my opinion on these tracks to change massively Apparently according to people here and on r/greenday, people giving their opinions or any kind of criticism after listening to them is them "complaining"5 points

Maybe it’s Billie’s response to the people that hated HCTS 😄4 points

I immediately thought of this classic performance! "Hey, some kid just got up on stage"4 points

I wasn’t expecting much from the deluxe songs and that’s what I got. Like many Green Day b-sides, I probably won’t be coming back to this (I still love Ballyhoo though, so that’s a win!). Like with any artist I like, “deluxe” tracks are appreciated but are very hit or miss in terms of quality. I’m most disappointed in the “acoustic” songs — a different mix of the original recording is not at all the same as having a new acoustic version of the song, which would’ve been so great to hear. You can’t just isolate the acoustic track and the original vocal, it doesn’t sound right at all. I’ve heard other artists try this before and I never like it.4 points

A big well done to Green Day Store. Postie delivered record at 7am this morning. I was a tad dubious ordering from them as past shipping experiences, particularly for @The Grohl left a lot to be desired. But Amazon where very sluggish in loading ordering info to their site this time, so I risked it. Boy oh boy, now I've got the set. 3 Saviors records, the original, the Japanese bonus, and now the deluxe. 🙂4 points

omg i didn't think I was actually gonna win, haha. I want to donate my vinyl to anyone else here, so please pick another winner Thank you, though. I am very flattered4 points

Just received it in the mail. I need to drive an hour tonight so I know what I will put in my car!4 points

Ballyhoo is definitely my favorite from this. I really dig it.3 points

I feel the same way about this. In all honesty, one could maybe sympathize with these folks in 2016, but after everything we have been through since, it's pretty hard to have sympathy for anyone who is still supporting Trump now. I just love it whenever Billie takes on current events and really busts out the attitude. I think he did a great job with that on Saviors and it is great to see even more of it in these bonus tracks.3 points

Not sure the new video really adds anything but I like to see them too. Agree with @pacejunkie punk that the guy was a paedophile or abuser. Loved Billie’s shirt, another one with lots of text like his one last weekend.3 points
-
I really like Stay Young and Underdog, I always love acoustic versions as somehow they sound more personal and Fuck Off just made me laugh and think well somebody pissed you off that day Billie 😂 I already love Ballyhoo.3 points
-
Having listened to extra songs, time to listen to whole record as the band intended, I'm just along for the ride, willingly. Record on turntable, speakers full blast (hello neighbors), I hour, 7 mins. Let's go fuckin' crazy jumping up and down from TADIKM to Underdog. 🤪3 points
-
So we get TWO One Eyed Bastard music videos?! I already love the animated one, can't wait for the new one!3 points
-
Yes whatever the subreddit you'll get a lot of downvotes if you don't like something from the band. You can't blame Dave or be angry about the fact that they fired their drummer in the Foo Fighters band. You can't say that your team played bad in a sport team subreddit, you can't say that the TV series episode was bad in the Severance subreddit.... etc.... So I guess it's the same for r/greenday Every songs is good and you can't say otherwise.3 points

Fuck Off misses the mark for me compared to its predecessors like FOD, Platypus and Let Yourself Go. It’s mostly tempo and vocal delivery. It’s too damn slow and he’s singing it straight. I feel like he should be putting more venom and attitude into it like he does those earlier songs. He could be singing about anything. Maybe that’s the joke but that’s why it’s a weaker attempt imo.3 points

Lyrically speaking, Stay Young almost strikes me as pseudo-sequel/spiritual successor of sorts to X-Kid, and looking at it through that lens got me a tiny bit emotional. The lyrics don't necessarily line up 1:1, but that was first thing I thought of when listening to it. Definitely loving the vibes of the track, even if the chorus is a pretty repetitive. Fuck Off is cathartic. The trilogy/Longshot vibes of Underdog is contagious. Billie could make a dime-a-dozen tracks in that style and I would shamelessly eat it right up. Ballyhoo is still my favorite (with Fuck Off in contention), and Belushi is a catchy enough romp that is fun to play.3 points

I think it can be both. I think critique is absolutely fair, and no one should just blindly go along with anything without any criticism or investigation. But I have also seen a lot of people in this fandom who seem to just enjoy being angry and finding fault, to the point of personally attacking the band members and other fans. It's one thing to critique someone's work; it's quite another to just be a miserable person who hates everything.2 points

I wonder if maybe some of these songs were from the scrapped 1972 project? Like these got tossed aside when they decided to go in the direction that ultimately became Saviors? Also, I don't think anyone has posted this new video we just got for One Eyed Bastard? I still love this song and now I love this video.2 points

I hope the guy they buried was a pedophile, that was my takeaway after seeing his captors were little kids. At first I thought they were gonna bury the poor SOB alive but they didn’t go quite that far. Wild video, very reminiscent of a classic 80’s vid that tells a story I got drawn into it. The guys look great in the performance bits I always appreciate when they’re included2 points

I swear it sounds like Fuck Off and Here Comes the Shock are the same song with different lyrics.2 points

Just listed to the deluxe edition and was a little underwhelmed that there weren't more b-sides/bonus tracks. I do love the new songs though! While they are really good, I can see why they didn't make the original album though, since the original album is so perfect as is. I have to say I am obsessed with Fuck Off. It might be a little repetitive, but it feels like the perfect song for the current moment in American society.2 points
-
not because of that, but because they could have recorded these acoustic versions and instesd they decided to upload the original songs without the bass, drums and electric guitar tracks. its ehhh2 points

It’s interesting to see all the dislike for Stay Young, because I feel like that’s the “strongest” of the B-Sides that were released today (so excluding Ballyhoo and Belushi). I really liked the instrumentals and I think there was a theme that could’ve been fleshed out more, but I figure this song was cut before they could work on it more. The chorus is also very repetitive, which I don’t love, but that’s another piece where I think it would’ve changed if they kept it in and worked on it more.2 points

suzue chapstick and father to a son acoustic versions are such a disappointment 😭😭😭2 points

I really wish they would have actually written a chorus for Stay Young. I like what it has going on but it definitely feels incomplete. Nothing really stands out for me besides Belushi. I still enjoy that a lot, but unfortunately it gave me high hopes for the rest.2 points

I haven't listened to it yet, but reading these comments make me excited, hehe !!2 points

Was in the little convenience store on my university campus this morning when Basket Case started playing. That isn't the kind of music that usually plays in there, so I told the girl at the cash register how much I love the song and how obsessed I am with Green Day, and she seemed to think that was awesome and said she picked some kind of Green Day radio playlist for the store that morning and then I told her that now I like her even more LOL. BTW, I have been seeing this cashier for years and she is always really nice but I never asked her name or talked to her much, so I feel like now I probably should. Maybe I can make a new friend LOL.2 points

After having heard it about twenty times, I deeply fell in love with Underdog. „Life is too short to be normal!“😃 And those guitars…!🥰1 point

Confused by the point of the video? Not sure what the message is…still wished they did a video for coma City as at the end of corvette summer a welcome to coma City sign was seen. Or 1981 as that was shown as graffiti in TADIKM or Susie chapstick or father to a son as every time that was played it was always professionally recorded still hoping for a live dvd 📀 or something of them playing Saviors in full. Which they chose stronger songs for their last two video corvette summer and OEB are not the best ones1 point
-
Yeah, I think you are right. I think they probably wrote a bunch of songs for 1972, and few made it to Saviors but most got scrapped and now we are getting them this way.1 point
-
I actually had that exact thought. What if these and some of the songs from Saviors were supposed to be the original album, as I can't really imagine most of these songs on the main album. Same with Fever and aren't One Eyed Bastard and Corvette Summer slightly older? Those 3 would fit with these songs better. I have always liked One Eyed Bastard ever since the leak, I like it more than about half of the songs. Gotta watch the video now.1 point

Wouldn't necessarily say this about r/greenday. Green Day fans like to complain about everything, and I have found that to be true in that sub as well. I love Green Day and I love this fan base, but we have a tendency to be negative about everything: the band, their music, each other, etc. Compare r/greenday against a place like r/falloutboy, and there is a noticeable difference in vibes. Having said all of that, I wish we got a little more out of this deluxe edition, but I still like most of the extra songs. I can see why they didn't make the original album though, becuase the original version of Saviors is a masterpiece as is.1 point
