I like this one a lot more than "Smash It..."!

Billie Joe on today’s ceremony via Instagram ”Where do I start? 1987? 1982? Today was like a fever dream. To see a lot of our friends and family all together to celebrate the walk of fame was unreal and beautiful. I remember playing Rajis in 1992. Never in my wildest fever dreams did I ever imagine this. Walking down the blvd. Gazing at the stars of Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin and so many more. Never once did I think this would be possible for me Mike and Tre. Mike brought tears to my eyes when he mentioned my mom Ollie. Jamming at my house in Rodeo California while she was making spaghetti. Last but not least our extended family and idiot nation. I’m always reluctant to use the word “fans” because you’ve all been on this journey with us for generations. In the immortal words of Shirley and Lee- “Let the good times roll”!” Sobbing he’s so happy about this moment

To me it sounds like a common topic recently which is how he feels with his on again off again up and down struggle with a harmful habit. Reach for a knife, let it go, live it up, give up, it’s a curse, the worst, mama raised a bomb.. it’s in his nature to be a hellion but he fights against it. A couple of images I love are “useless as a … crippled ballerina” and “waiting on the sun like a star that’s blowing up”. It’s like another way of describing himself as a dead man walking. Like disaster has already struck but he doesn’t know it yet. He might write a lot about a short list of themes but no one captures the human condition and describes feelings in a simple yet relatable and emotional way like he does. He somehow always avoids sounding too self indulgent or self pitying. Like with Smash It Like Belushi the message is when you’re feeling this way just keep your head down keep going and rip shit up. It’s empowering 💚

This isn’t exactly true. Celebrities don’t just “buy a star” when they want one. They need to be nominated and, if selected, there is a cost required in order to make and maintain the star as well as safely hold the ceremony and invite fans for free — this is usually sponsored by a studio, record label, etc. It makes sense you have to pay for it since it’s a chamber of commerce-run initiative — they’re not going to foot the bill themselves to do this for wealthy celebrities. But it’s a nomination and selection-based process, and only people who are deemed worthy based on a bunch of factors get one. So it’s definitely earned, not bought. Billie was absolutely gorgeous yesterday, I’m liking the blonde more and more and he’s at peak floof right now 😍😍. Mike and Tre looked great, I thought Tre looked quite slim, has he lost a few pounds? I loved Ryan’s comments about Billie’s skin care but look at his mum, good genes!

That was lovely to see. Billie’s mum is amazing, she looks great at 93! Hope to be able to watch it again, I love hearing people say how wonderful our boys are. Find it extremely weird that we saw band arrive and then after speeches but not at all during!

loving it! might be even better than belushi its nice to see the direction they are going/sticking to new songs, recorded after the last lp, but they are still very good and i can totally see the trilogy influence somehow its not as generic as back to the usa was, they use different chords, mixed with different song structures and bridges etc hopefully we will get to experience those new songs during their european tour next month

Love both SILB & Ballyhoo. According to Wik' GD have released over 200 songs. Does anyone else come close to Billie Joe's amazing song writing skills, both lyrics and melody. Not imho. Way yer go Billie Joe, your awesome. ❤️

Really, really, like this song. I love the falsetto, but the best part is the "Madness, ballyhoo" part. It's raw. The only thing that I don't like as much is the "hey, yuh" part - it's too "pop" if that makes sense.

Oooh, really love Ballyhoo. That falsetto made my heart skip, Billie’s singing in this song is fantastic. The lyrics don’t especially make a lot of sense to me lol, but the sound of the song is just so cool.

Missed it too, because we had tickets for a Donots show yesterday evening (my favorite band right after GD). And it was worth it, well sometimes you can’t have everything…🫠 But I‘ve seen lots of nice photos of the ceremony by now and will watch the whole thing later when I‘m home again!

Billies mom is amazing

My highlight was Tré humping the star seconds after officially unveiling it. Classic Tré.

Ryan’s speech was lovely, he said so many things about their music that really rang true and were really kind. Billie nearly forgetting to thank Adrienne, Mike forgetting Britt, Tre not thanking his wife and children, and no one remembering Ryan Reynolds is just incredible. I love these idiots.

Even though Ryan Reynolds is just meh for a lot of people, I actually think it’s really cool that someone as famous and in-demand as him wants to take the time to do this for Green Day. I don’t think celebrities get anything out of doing this other than supporting someone they care about, so that’s pretty awesome. Their star looks amazing. Feeling very proud!
