15 April On this day in 2009, Green Day played the Uptown in Oakland – the last time they played 21st Century Breakdown in full. On 15 April 2005, Green Day played the University of Miami Convocation Center in Coral Gables, FL on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: So that’s a wrap. I hope this project will be a great resource for many years to come. It was a lot of work but I'm glad I completed it. I’ll eventually add new events as they happen and go back through the thread to remove ‘_ years ago’ so it will always be relevant (I definitely don’t have the time or energy to change the numbers each year). I still need to add some things I missed in the beginning and quite a few Saviors Tour shows. I’ll post when I add them so if people want to see them, they know what to look for. If anyone would like to reminisce on the anniversaries of anything, whether it’s shows, albums or videos, please continue to do so! The best thing about this thread is people sharing their own experiences7 points

I don't know why he picked him to be honest. Not trying to discriminate, I suppose there is reverse pretty privilege too, but I think it should have been abundantly obvious from the start that he was a show-off (not a die hard GD fan) and then on stage that is exactly how he acted. I mean everything from his style to his demeanour gives it away. In terms of his behaviour on stage, I get that people on stage can get excited and run off (I think I might without meaning to) and being on stage is obviously a thrilling experience. But that's not what this was, this guy was strutting off calmly, boldly, chest out, as if he owned the stage and, I think crucially, he kept ignoring Billie. Never really looked at him. Eww. Always seemed rock solidly looking forward, "into the cameras". What I think was the most awkward thing was that one point when he was kind of standing in front of Billie, blocking him from view for a solid half minute with a "look at me me me" attitude. And you could see him holding onto the guitar for dear life at the end, refusing to give it back, and then he threw the goddamn pick into the audience!! Yeah, not cool. So Billie's reaction was warranted, that guy did not deserve to be up there. It all seemed like he did this for an Insta or TikTok reel, and tbh given so many influencers attend Coachella, it could well have been that. Shame, 9/10 people are overjoyed and grateful, being on stage, but I mean, this is Coachella, which probably increases the frequency of self-absorbed spoilt brats, so it's not reaaaallly usual Green Day territory anyway. The only thing I'll say in this guy's defence is I don't think Good Riddance is particularly conducive to fans being up on stage, regardless of who it is. It's such a personal song in my view, as a show closer, and I think all attention should be on Billie and then Mike and Tré.5 points

I can just repeat what others have already said: thank you so much for your great work!❤️ I learned a lot and really enjoyed reading your posts, especially the parts about your personal experiences! And of course I liked the photos (as @GreenDayJunkie86 has already observed 🤭)!3 points

Okay, but I just saw someone praising an artist for doing "13 songs, no breaks!" at Coachella. Girl. Rude.3 points

I remember watching Quatro dvd, the making of Trilogy. That part where band sat in a room, there's a board in 3 sections for each album. Sticky back cards with each track name allocated to each album. Billie Joe is holding the last card wondering where to put it and throws it at board to see where it lands. lol. According to critics, Uno songs where power pop style. Dos, garage rock. And Tre, a mix of poppist and raw hitting. Whether you think some songs don't fit that criteria idk. Imho I wouldn't change anything, as it's Billie Joe's choice. A special reminder about the Trilogy is that they where the only studio recordings, along with Demolicious, with the band as a 4 piece, including touring band member Jason White as additional lead guitarist. The idea being to give studio recording a more live feel. Which was generally felt worked betting on Demolicious than the Trilogy?3 points

14 April On this day in 2012, Green Day inducted Guns 'n' Roses into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They also performed Letterbomb. More photos: On 14 April 2010, Green Day performed four songs on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. More photos: On 14 April 2010, Green Day played the Fox Theatre in Oakland on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. They played the album in full again. The show was partially filmed and videos can still be found on YouTube. If you only watch one, I personally think this is proof that Christian's Inferno should replace St. Jimmy for at least a few shows. I used to watch the knock-off DVD every other day after school. Also had a shirt from the show (from eBay) that I wore to death. More photos: On 14 April 1991, Green Day played Coconut Teaszer in Hollywood, CA. On 14 April 1989, Green Day played Psycospecific in San Francisco, CA.3 points

I can relate to this so much! I also fell in love with them through AI, and had the same thoughts last year of "I am now the age they were when they released AI, and cannot imagine being behind something so monumental". And I also feel like that album was transformative for me, like this version of me now exists because I found that album, and through that album the rest of their music, their ideals and values, and the fan community around them. I do think I'd be a completely different otherwise. And even during my extended break from Green Day land, I always felt like this - even if I wasn't actively into the band at that time, I'd still speak about them fondly and of how they had impacted my life. I am also glad I came back and yes 2024 was such an amazing year to be a Green Day fan where I got to experience things I only ever dreamed I would but thought they'd never happen.2 points

Thank you so much having done this project! I discovered Green Day had played in places I had never imagined and I caught up on things that happened with the band while I was on my decade off. And it also gave so many folks here, yourself included, a space to share their experience of a certain show or event they had attended, which was my favorite thing to read in this thread2 points

Absolutely. Simple as you say. GD generally described by critics as " a speedy, catchy, 3-cord punk pop band, with heavy use of power cords". And yet so effective and infectious, set the benchmark for other bands, yet none comes close. This song is no different. What an awesome song, and as for the guitar solo, holy shit. Just have to do what Billie Joe tells us to do and go fuckin' crazy, again. Can't stop jumping up and down and shaking my head. ❤️2 points

Early April is what I consider my “Green Day-versary” and this year is a big one! My dad got American Idiot when it first came out and I was resistant to liking it at first — I liked heavier, darker rock at the time and felt like Green Day was too upbeat for me. But over the next few months and hours upon hours of listening to them in my dad’s car, they grew on me (or “wore me down” is probably the more correct phrasing ). I admired them so much for the political statements they were making and just thought they seemed like really awesome people. My parents eventually got me Shenanigans and International Superhits on CD and I’d comb through every word in the liner notes. I’d never really taken an interest in band members before and Billie really changed that for me, because I had so much respect for him and found him so talented. This is not the fangirl thread, but yes, I also found him impossibly attractive in all the ways. In early April 2005, I realized that perhaps Green Day meant a bit more to me than most bands. I’m now the age they were when they released American Idiot and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around all they’d already accomplished at this point in their lives, and how they created a timeless masterpiece in their early 30s. The AI-era version of them seems so young to me now. Part of me feels like I’ve loved them for 20 years, part of me feels like it’s been no time at all, and part of me feels like I was never even me before I found them. It is crazy to think they’ve been part of my life for two decades, but I’m so glad they have been, so glad I’ve gotten over breaks I’ve taken from them in the past, and so glad I’m here and they’re here and I get to witness them still doing awesome stuff like playing Coachella for the first time. I’m having more fun as a fan now than I ever have. What a ride.2 points

It's great that Green Day haven't had anything get in the way of them promoting Saviors. They've had bad things happens during the promotion of their last FIVE albums so they're smoothing sailing this time around is a real joy.1 point

It's my most played this month, the last six months and I'm working hard to get it #1 for my year. Currently for the year, it's #6.1 point

I hope it lives up to the name bc it sounds like it will be a sick song. Would be fun if it sounded like Platypus or Take Back but i doubt it will.1 point

Thank you @solongfromthestars what an awesome piece of work. I have loved reading your posts and although I obviously know how long the band have been together, it was incredible to see just how many shows in how many places they have played.1 point

Is there any higher quality versions of what about today or Puchyak fuck (both names are for the same song) They came from a phone message that was posted back in 2000 or 2001. I wanna figure out the lyrics and make a "studio" version but I can't tell what the lyrics are! Here's a link to the song if you don't know it!1 point

On a different note, just watched the full show recording and damn Billie looked and sounded fine I had a friend of mine, like super casual fan, text me about their Coachella performance, I think he liked the political statements and just thought the performance in general seemed great, it appears to have made the rounds online, so I think overall it was a net positive for the guys, even if I get that Coachella is not really their crowd.1 point

Oh I see, yeah one way to make them stay is if you upload the pictures to an image hosting site eg Imgur1 point

Guns and Ammo is the name of a gun enthusiast magazine so that’s probably the reference1 point
-
Reading guns and ammo could be a reference to that Luigi guy, right? Didn't they read the words he put on bullets? I'm sure Billie had a lot of thoughts on that whole situation but didn't want to talk about it specifically so....word salad!1 point
-
I would've preferred an acoustic version of fancy sauce over father to a son1 point
-
Yes because it's something they haven't done that they can check off their list and I think it matters to them that they do it their way and not change their performance to match what others do, but to present themselves authentically as a way of saying, this is us, this is our show and this is what we do and we do it very very well.1 point
-
I'm very appreciative of the tight shirts Billie has been wearing lately.1 point
-
I really love the song, but the lyrics aren't really sticking with me. Despite playing it 1 Trillion times since it came out, it's kind of hard to sing along to. Some takes on the wacky lyrics though: Murder in the front row could be inspired from a time Billie had to sit in the front row of a movie, and how painful it is to look straight up. Haha Getting clothes from a dead man's closet makes me think of Dilemma - maybe Billie's saying he's like a dead man walking - or maybe like others have said, he dressed old fashioned. Reading guns and ammo feels smarter than the rest of the word-salad, as does the bridge which felt like it was building to something epic and then let it pass.1 point

With all the shit that's going on in the world, it's a welcome distraction, to escape and come on here and discuss a new GD song, and smile again. We're always gonna disagree on each song's merit's, that's cool. What never ceases to amaze me, is Billie Joe's awesome song writing skills. What an amazing talent he has, please don't stop. As for generating more income, I'm no expert in how this works. I can only guess the record company has to recoup it's costs and make profit of course. I remember times in the 90's when band gave up some of their income to offset ticket costs for fans at live performances. They're always promoting charitable events, and performed additional live events at small venues. And there's the Coverups live shows of course. Can't see them making much from those. Will never forget how lucky I was to be in the right place at the right time to see them live at a small pub in London. As always, from the early years and as now, it's about the fans , you and me, they just want to play their music and share it good or bad, what more can we ask. What was it Mike Dirnt said, "Listening to Green Day is like sex. when it's good it's really good. when it's bad, it's still pretty dam good. " 😁1 point

Until the stock market crashes their 401k’s and then it’s “save capitalism!” Seriously will Green Day ever get past the accusations of “sell outs”?1 point

Honestly, I think Back In The USA will never be beaten as a B-Side. This is simply the best B-Side song ever released.1 point

In addition to not being politicians or political activists, they’re also not a nonprofit lol. I’m not sure why people act scandalized when artists have expensive tickets or claim merch and vinyl variants are a “cash grab.” No shit, this is their job. You can love what you do and still not volunteer to do it for free. Listeners can have Spotify for free or listen on YouTube. As fans, no one is holding a gun to our heads to buy anything from them. But a lot of time and resources and therefore money goes into recording and touring. And the guys put their own money into the Saviors-era music videos. So that has to be earned back somehow. It’s a business like anything else.1 point
-
Breaking news: Professional musicians want to make money! There’s virtually no money in streaming, which is why physical media is pushed so hard by record labels today. There’s a deluxe edition of most albums these days along with tons of vinyl variants for a reason. It’s a standard industry practice at this point. Anyway, I’ve been around Green Day long enough to know a lot of their b-sides are just okay. And that’s fine. They’re just very good at curating what goes on their main albums. I’ll never be mad at getting more Green Day than I expected.1 point
-
Oh no Green Day want to make money by releasing another variants and making new music 😥 they're so evil I guess they're the only band in the world doing music for cash 🫠1 point
