  1. I spoke too soon. OEB has now been played twice today on that same radio station I mentioned in my previous post. This could be good news for the song, because I believe the station is owned by iHeart Radio, so it probably means a lot more stations also started playing it recently

  2. Exactly. It also keeps out distracting background noise. Back in July 2023, in the beautiful Quebec City, the band played live first song from Saviors, 1981. Unfortunately, technical issues caused Billie Joe's ear device to temporarily lose contact with other band's instruments. Risking losing his place in song along with timing. You can see Billie Joe touching his ear part way through. But, like the true professional he is, there's no panic, the connection is soon restored, and he keeps pace and carries on. That's what makes live music so unique and special, especially when it's GD.

  4. I've not seen any Coachella videos so I don't know how good the set was, but this part of the review surprised me: 'In lieu of added staging or guests (a little of friend and occasional co-performer Billie Eilish would have gone a long way), Armstrong relied on classic rock concert tricks for audience engagement.' I'm so glad Green Day don't usually bring random celebrities on stage. I know festivals are different and the Coachella crowd must be a difficult one, but Green Day are still considered one of the best live bands in the world - they don't need a celebrity appearance to engage the audience. And it's cool that they give fans the chance to have the best nights of their lives on stage, rather than giving some other musician publicity. I also don't really understand how that would improve a shit performance 😂

  5. Yeah I knew about the mic (which is why I probably should've fully guessed about the ear pieces!). I can just imagine them cracking jokes into it from time to time.

  6. The three Saviors album version releases, follow a similar pattern to AI, if I remember correctly. The Japanese AI release had a bonus track, and the digital deluxe release with 3 additional new tracks. Favorite Son, Too Much Too Soon, Governator, and Shoplifter, respectively. Imho, I thought the deluxe edition then was awesome and a great addition to the original. So with Fever added, I'm really excited about deluxe version. If the others are as good as SILB, this should be epic. GD, your spoiling us, again.

  7. The nice thing about in ear monitors is each one is customized for each player so they get the mix that suits them best and can hear what they need to. They can also communicate with each other on stage through the in ears via one microphone that you can sometimes see set back near the drum kit. Billie can speak in that one to call an audible or make a comment and the other players can hear him but the audience can't.

  10. We had a similar experience at a show with the Donots (that German punk band that opened for Green Day last summer in Berlin and Hamburg): the band‘s tech guy accidentally exchanged the in-ears of the singer and the guitarist. The result was endearingly chaotic…😂 But I can imagine that Billie can cope with such a situation, no problem…

  11. 14 April On this day in 2012, Green Day inducted Guns 'n' Roses into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They also performed Letterbomb. More photos: On 14 April 2010, Green Day performed four songs on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. More photos: On 14 April 2010, Green Day played the Fox Theatre in Oakland on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. They played the album in full again. The show was partially filmed and videos can still be found on YouTube. If you only watch one, I personally think this is proof that Christian's Inferno should replace St. Jimmy for at least a few shows. I used to watch the knock-off DVD every other day after school. Also had a shirt from the show (from eBay) that I wore to death. More photos: On 14 April 1991, Green Day played Coconut Teaszer in Hollywood, CA. On 14 April 1989, Green Day played Psycospecific in San Francisco, CA.

  13. Yes because it's something they haven't done that they can check off their list and I think it matters to them that they do it their way and not change their performance to match what others do, but to present themselves authentically as a way of saying, this is us, this is our show and this is what we do and we do it very very well.

  14. Awesome, thanks both. I thought there was probably some function other than protection, but just wanted to check.

  15. As I understand it, such an ear-in helps a musician to hear his own voice and instrument better while the other instruments are in the background. Some kind of filter I guess…

  16. It makes a lot more sense from a commercial standpoint to add these songs to Saviors than to release them as their own EP. Just add to the album's total stream count. While I don't like the idea of adding a shitload of tracks to a single album just to pad the stream count, I don't really have a problem with it as long as the tracks are added to the end of the album where they can be ignored if they're not as good as the rest of the tracks. Like, adding a bunch of filler nonsense and 30 second interludes all over the album would just make it a nuisance to try and listen to the whole thing. Besides, if the rest of the tracks are of the same standard as Smash It Like Belushi, I probably won't be skipping them all that much. Obviously, Smash It Like Belushi isn't the best track ever but I still prefer it over One Eyed Bastard and maybe 1-2 other songs on the album.

  18. Love this description of Billie from that review: “Still sprightly at 53, eyes still kohl-rimmed and twinkly.” Indeed. I do somewhat agree with that reviewer that Coachella would be the place to do something different from a scramble of greatest hits. A lot of artists do something unique for their Coachella set from their standard concert. I take zero issue with the song choices (perhaps She and Warning would be nice additions for this crowd…I also want Bang Bang but don’t know how many people would know that one). But I would’ve liked to see them presented/structured differently — maybe by year, leading up their biggest hits from AI and 21CB, which that crowd would likely be most pumped for (as the reviewer noted). I think a condensed Eras Tour-style set would be neat. This isn’t meant as a criticism, they played phenomenal last night. But I think if there’s one place to play around with the set a bit and add some pizzazz to the presentation, it’s Coachella.

  19. Early April is what I consider my “Green Day-versary” and this year is a big one! My dad got American Idiot when it first came out and I was resistant to liking it at first — I liked heavier, darker rock at the time and felt like Green Day was too upbeat for me. But over the next few months and hours upon hours of listening to them in my dad’s car, they grew on me (or “wore me down” is probably the more correct phrasing ). I admired them so much for the political statements they were making and just thought they seemed like really awesome people. My parents eventually got me Shenanigans and International Superhits on CD and I’d comb through every word in the liner notes. I’d never really taken an interest in band members before and Billie really changed that for me, because I had so much respect for him and found him so talented. This is not the fangirl thread, but yes, I also found him impossibly attractive in all the ways. In early April 2005, I realized that perhaps Green Day meant a bit more to me than most bands. I’m now the age they were when they released American Idiot and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around all they’d already accomplished at this point in their lives, and how they created a timeless masterpiece in their early 30s. The AI-era version of them seems so young to me now. Part of me feels like I’ve loved them for 20 years, part of me feels like it’s been no time at all, and part of me feels like I was never even me before I found them. It is crazy to think they’ve been part of my life for two decades, but I’m so glad they have been, so glad I’ve gotten over breaks I’ve taken from them in the past, and so glad I’m here and they’re here and I get to witness them still doing awesome stuff like playing Coachella for the first time. I’m having more fun as a fan now than I ever have. What a ride.

  22. Yeah, I've got no problem with it (obviously). They fuckin rocked as they always do, and I love to see them conquer everything they want. I just want everyone to love them as much as I do, so the idea of a *potentially* lukewarm crowd makes me squirm a bit.

Art of the Deal with the Devil (Released on The Network Money Money 2020 Part 2) Here Comes The Shock Holy Toledo Corvette Summer (Released on Saviors, originally heard in Billie’s headphones in a FOAM sessions video on his Instagram) Fever (Released on Saviors in Japan)

  35. I think it’s a great sign we’re getting a deluxe. For YEARS this boys have been far behind on music promo, and this new era seems to have new management behind the scenes getting these videos, tracks, and social posts out there. It’ll also tie in nicely with their upcoming Coachella set, which you’d want new music prepared for. Whether you’re a fan of deluxe editions or not, it’s very commonplace these days in music and from a marketing perspective it does a lot to extend the otherwise short lifespan of an album in the current music landscape. That said, I’m happy the boys have a competent team behind them now, and it shows because we are getting FED! 🥳

  36. I think deluxe albums come out relatively quick these days. Linkin Park’s new album dropped in November and their deluxe album is coming out in May. Looking at a totally different genre, Sabrina Carpenter’s new album came out in August and the deluxe came out in February. Six months to a year seems pretty standard with the artists I’m familiar with, and Saviors is (somehow) more than a year old already.

  38. I figured it would be a Strange Days Are Here to Stay demo or early version. We haven't had an instrumental in a great while so that's interesting. Anyway, I've got to go find my guitar and play the new song. the chords are already up: https://chordsworld.com/green-day-smash-it-like-belushi-chords/
