  1. Yeah it was because of the rain. Billie was doing a little shuffle to get on and off the catwalk safely so there would have been safety concerns about bringing a fan up.

  5. This song would play well with any crowd. I remember it going off at Soundwave Australia 2014 and I bet most didn't even know it.

  6. Just watched a video of American dream from this show and the crowd was hyped! Nice to see so much singing during a new song!

  7. That... was a really special show. Not because of the setlist or whatever (although we did get One of My Lies, RevRad and a snippet of At the Library) but it was just one of those magical times. It was absolutely pissing it down - I'm returning to my hostel twice as heavy because my hair and clothes are so sodden - and that somehow made it even more surreal and magical. I got there at about 12:30 and I was pretty far out, in front of the screen, but I'm so glad I was there because I was surrounded by lovely Malaysian fans who were seeing Green Day for the first time and all that blathering Billie does about unity - I FELT it. I think we all did. Everyone around me was screaming the lyrics, jumping and waving, and whenever I looked behind me the rest of the crowd was going absolutely crazy. I felt like I was seeing Green Day for the first time again because of the vibes all around me. The bloke next to me was worried he wouldn't enjoy the show because he prefers Green Day's slow songs, but we had the same look of awe on our faces when we turned to each other after the show. I asked how it was and he replied 'it was AMAZING!' Agreed. Someone I met in Jakarta (not a Green Day fan, although I almost convinced her to come to the show 😂) asked if I actually remember all these shows and the answer is my expression as this show came to a close. I looked up as the rain was pouring and lightning was flashing as Billie sang Good Riddance, and there was just pure joy and wonder on my face. There isn't any deep story behind me deciding to come to KL. The flight from Jakarta was £30 and the city looked nice on photos so I went for it. I'd had so much bad luck and anxiety since I arrived that I regretted that decision - I was convinced the show was doomed - but wow. It was not.

  8. People (mostly men) think they can get away with it in pits because its so crowded and squishy, and young people might be afraid to stand up for themselves. I try keep my eye out for stuff now, being a bit older I'm less likely to get felt up, but I can still be watchful and stop it if I see it going on (obviously if its consensual, knock yourself out 😅).

  9. The Bookmobile actually was the upgrade. They bought it with their first advance from Reprise around the summer of 1993, replacing a series of Econoline vans. They used it for just about a year, they had it on the Lollapalooza tour in 1994. I remember them showing the calendar pinned up inside it during the renovation (you can watch the West Coast Customs episode somewhere still) and I think the dates went through early fall. I also recall a story where they said they didn’t actually see any money from Dookie sales until about a year after it came out so I would guess that’s why it took until the 1995 tour dates for them to upgrade it again to a real bus.

  10. American Idiot. Yeah yeah, cliche, I know. But it's the album that got me into Green Day and shaped me in so many ways. I wasn't even aware of how deep a mark that album left on me until they announced they'd be playing Dookie and AI in their entirety live, and I just knew I had a to go to more shows to see that. And as hyped as I was for getting Dookie in full, the excitement of seeing AI was on a whole other level. The experience of it being played live was just such an emotional thing for me. I don't think I'd get that with any other album. That said, I really really really love most of their albums and a bit like @GreenDayJunkie86, my "favorite" at a given time, or the one that I play on repeat at given time, varies throughout the year, and depends a lot on my mood or what I haven't listened to in a while. But even the trilogy, which is my least favorite era, has gotten played quite a bit in the last year.

  13. Nimrod is full of experiments (just look at the songs following it, a ska influenced song with horns about cross dressing and an acoustic string laden ballad), this is just another song where they tried something different on there. Extra angry and aggressive song with some screaming/growling. Check it out live, Billie does the growls well Also reminded me of how insane Platypus is live, he really gets into it! Even pushed the camera man. The two angriest Green Day songs

  15. Being felt up by a guy who literally put his hand UP my shorts leg, and then when I challenged him, claimed he "tripped" in the shoving and his hand landed there. Luckily i was glaring so hard, and the person next to me had heard, that he fucked off double quick. Like, I'm used to hands going on places because in the pit it gets a bit squishy and wild. But UP someone's shorts leg, basically to the crotch? That doesn't happen by accident. I think i was 23 at the time. These days I would have reported the fuck out of him.

  27. To answer this I decided to do research and count up how many songs from each album are in my GD favorite songs playlist. 21 CB/Warning tied for first and RevRad/Saviors tied for second…and the science is right, because those four are exactly what I would’ve picked as my favorite Green Day albums. I’d say the common theme between all four is the sharp writing. 21CB is so sweeping and ambitious, I love acoustic rock and so Warning has always appealed to me, and I love the mix of old and new sounds on RevRad and Saviors. The latter two are both just fun albums that really convey what Green Day feels like to me — warm, heartfelt, honest, and worried about the world.

  31. I was just informed that somebody else (who's in middle school) made this same post like a month ago. I want to let you know that that's not me but that's one hell of a coincidence, lmao. let me clear some things up. one: thats not me, i was just curious. two: this is a shared account between me and my friend, and we are both in middle school but almost in highschool. sorry for confusion :3

  32. You had me clutching my pearls with Kerplunk and Warning. But I completely understand your reasoning! I agree that the trilogy slaps. It took me some time to sort of detach the music from that period of time the band went through, but I can create one of my top favorite Green Day albums if I make a playlist of my favorites from the trilogy. Lazy Bones and Brutal Love are two of my favorite songs of theirs (like, both top 10 all timers, honestly). I’m also obsessed with Ashley, Stray Heart, Stay the Night, X-Kid, Walk Away. I’ll never complain about an artist I love putting out too much music. I understand the critique that albums should be curated and I agree at times, but I’m also fine with the choose-your-own-adventure approach on occasion.

  33. Saviors. There are some amazing songs on it, but it's the only Green Day album with more than five songs I don't care about and two that I hate. Still think it should get more love on the SAVIORS Tour though, especially because I'm in a minority and the rest of the fandom seems to be listening to a different album that they prefer to My Precious, the trilogy. Father of All isn't my favourite Green Day album by any means and the whole era made my skin crawl, but I think it's actually a very emotional record. A lot of the 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll' stuff is ironic because it's addressing the dark side of fame, but Billie felt self-conscious since he was writing about being rich for the first time when his audience tends to be working-class. Meet Me on the Roof sounds like a cheerful song about casual romance, but he sings 'all you have to do is jump' and 'I'm taking drowning lessons' so it's actually not cheerful at all; he's asking his lover to jump off the roof with him, Romeo and Juliet style. Then by Sugar Youth he's saying 'I don't wanna be a Romeo' - he doesn't actually want to die for this love - despite the obvious longing for the subject since the trilogy era. There are only four Green Day songs I hate and one is Junkies on a High, but it's a shame it sounds like a soundtrack to a knock off skateboarding PS1 game because the lyrics are great. Other than the title because what else are junkies on? I know it's a metaphor for money and fame, but still. I could continue, but I hate typing on my phone and I'm passing the time until my laundry is ready, which it nearly is. You get the idea. Whoever would've thought I'd be writing an essay about Father of All? 😂

  35. I would LOVE to see some more trilogy stuff, such as Let Yourself Go, and some more underrated songs from 21CB. Restless Heart Syndrome seems to never get played. I think the last time was actually in 2009 when it came out.

  40. 4 February 2025 On this day 27 years ago (4 February 1998), Green Day played Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium on the Nimrod Tour. 32 years ago (4 February 1993), Green Day played Emo's in Houston, TX. More photos (by juarezma on Flickr): 5 February 2025 On this day 8 years ago (5 February 2017), Green Day played the FirstDirect Arena in Leeds, England on the Revolution Radio Tour. I wasn't supposed to go to this show either Someone on Twitter was selling a pit ticket for face value and I was already in Manchester, so I got the train to Leeds and sprinted off to the arena. Not sure why I bothered running when I was going to get there at doors anyway, but the barrier was so long that I did get onto the end. The recap I wrote back then: 'In all honesty, I hadn’t slept for days and I was exhausted, my ribs were bruised from Paris and I was panicking about the Manchester queue. The crowd initially seemed unresponsive too, until Billie roared "I want to hear your loud English voices!" and it was as if we all woke up. I was no longer tired and it was a surreal experience, being back where it all began for me, in arenas in England. Because there is no experience like Green Day in England. There’s no energy like this, no atmosphere like this, anywhere else. To be one of those voices, a collective voice so loud it feels like it could shake the bowels of the earth – it’s surreal. I’m not at all patriotic, but Billie screaming "fuck you I’m from ENGLAND!" at the top of his lungs in Youngblood, then thanking us for welcoming him home was something else. They also played Armatage Shanks and I may have temporarily died (of happiness, obviously).' More photos: 20 years ago (5 February 2005), Green Day played the Brighton Centre in Brighton, England on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: 27 years ago (5 February 1998), Green Day played the Live Music Hall in Cologne, Germany on the Nimrod Tour. 31 years ago (5 February 1993), Green Day played Club Clearview in Dallas, TX. This will be my last post in here for a bit. I'm very sad to have to leave it when I'm so close to finishing the project, but I'm so busy and stressed that I'm on the verge of a meltdown (not looking for sympathy, just explaining) and then I'll be away without my laptop for a while. If people are interested I can post the stuff I'll miss when I've got more time. Otherwise I'll resume the project when I can, probably in mid-March. I have prepared over a month of stories and posts for the GDA Instagram. They're not as in depth but they do give some information.

  44. There was a video (that I wish I could find again for science 😊) that someone posted on Instagram years ago that was definitely 21CB because Billie had the striped pants on. Anyway, it was filmed from a fan in the front row, he’s lying on his back on the floor, knees up and rubbing his crotch until he full body shudders and I swear it looked like he actually came in his pants. I’ve seen all the fake HAR moaning but this looked real.
