Happy birthday to one of my favorite people! When I first got really into Green Day, Billie was freshly 33. It’s crazy how time flies, but he’s only gotten better with age.6 points

My opinions tend to be unpopular to be fair I've seen a lot of people saying the only song they like from Father of All is Junkies on a High. I love Amy - actually, ¡Dos! is my second favourite Green Day album - but it seems most fans hate at least a few songs from it. I didn't think you were disrespecting anyone by the way. Father to a Son and Dilemma. I know Father to a Son isn't that popular (although some do love it), but I don't think I've seen anyone other than me saying they hate Dilemma. I may be biased because of the bad experiences I've had with loved ones drinking though. I'd still say I like Saviors, just not as much as Green Day's other work. I think the way Billie in particular behaved in the Father of All interviews was down to booze, drugs and what you described - making a joke of something serious, which was his struggle with fame. Even the artwork refers to that; it's mocking the album that made him so famous (American Idiot). As I've said many times, I'm so into the dark side of fame and fandom that wrote my dissertation on it, so I really enjoy that aspect of the album6 points

Same! I love Kerplunk! I think it's great. Christie Rd., 80, 2000 Lightyears Away... Maybe I'm just a sucker for Billie's love songs 😅5 points

You had me clutching my pearls with Kerplunk and Warning. But I completely understand your reasoning! I agree that the trilogy slaps. It took me some time to sort of detach the music from that period of time the band went through, but I can create one of my top favorite Green Day albums if I make a playlist of my favorites from the trilogy. Lazy Bones and Brutal Love are two of my favorite songs of theirs (like, both top 10 all timers, honestly). I’m also obsessed with Ashley, Stray Heart, Stay the Night, X-Kid, Walk Away. I’ll never complain about an artist I love putting out too much music. I understand the critique that albums should be curated and I agree at times, but I’m also fine with the choose-your-own-adventure approach on occasion.4 points

I said FOAM was about “sex, drugs, and rock n roll” but definitely meant it in the dark sense too. I think whenever they theme an album around that it gets very dark, and that’s where my discomfort comes from — they try to make it lighthearted in interviews and stuff, but it’s scary material, and so them trying to put a super self-destructive “let’s just PARTY” sheen over top makes me deeply worried and uncomfortable. In an objective sense I find the dark side of fame fascinating, but it’s hard for me to digest if I feel like Billie himself is not in a good place when promoting it, because I want him to be okay. I love dark music and themes and Billie is great at writing that way, but when it’s a whole album of nothing but that mixed with weird marketing, things get strange fast. I get why they’d try to play it off in interviews as NBD, but the promo cycle colored my impression of the album in a bad way, I think, and I never got past that. All of Billie’s “I was sober for a while but I’m drinking and fine now, let the good times roll!” was just really gutting. And the material itself, IMO, also just sounds more side-projecty than a Green Day album to me. That said, I actually do love Junkies on a High.4 points

Saviors. There are some amazing songs on it, but it's the only Green Day album with more than five songs I don't care about and two that I hate. Still think it should get more love on the SAVIORS Tour though, especially because I'm in a minority and the rest of the fandom seems to be listening to a different album that they prefer to My Precious, the trilogy. Father of All isn't my favourite Green Day album by any means and the whole era made my skin crawl, but I think it's actually a very emotional record. A lot of the 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll' stuff is ironic because it's addressing the dark side of fame, but Billie felt self-conscious since he was writing about being rich for the first time when his audience tends to be working-class. Meet Me on the Roof sounds like a cheerful song about casual romance, but he sings 'all you have to do is jump' and 'I'm taking drowning lessons' so it's actually not cheerful at all; he's asking his lover to jump off the roof with him, Romeo and Juliet style. Then by Sugar Youth he's saying 'I don't wanna be a Romeo' - he doesn't actually want to die for this love - despite the obvious longing for the subject since the trilogy era. There are only four Green Day songs I hate and one is Junkies on a High, but it's a shame it sounds like a soundtrack to a knock off skateboarding PS1 game because the lyrics are great. Other than the title because what else are junkies on? I know it's a metaphor for money and fame, but still. I could continue, but I hate typing on my phone and I'm passing the time until my laundry is ready, which it nearly is. You get the idea. Whoever would've thought I'd be writing an essay about Father of All? 😂4 points

I haven't listened to FOAM (still), so can't comment. Of the others, and I KNOW people will come for me on this... its Nimrod. Idk. I just don't *get* it as an album. It's got some brilliant brilliant songs on it, but I'll always listen to those songs as standalone, not Nimrod as a whole. Idk why.3 points

Have to agree. But firstly respect everyone's views coz that's what this forum is all about. I just can't put down any song or album by Billie Joe. When I first heard GD through Kerplunk in '91 as a young teen it not only changed my life it saved my life. The music was so different and amazing, but also his lyrics kept my life together with autism. And always has.3 points

Fancy Sauce Fancy Sauce Fancy Sauce I just feel if it doesn't get played now during the Saviors tour, we'll never get it live, and it's such a great song and I have the feeling it'd play so well live. From past albums: I'm hoping they keep Forever Now. Brutal Love would be amazing. Scattered (or Redundant). Peacemaker (like Fancy Sauce, I always wanted to hear this live but it didn't get played during the 21CBD tour so I'm still waiting...although if 21CBD the song, or American Eulogy made a comeback, I'd be happy too). I also would love, love, love if they gave a bit more of love to Insomniac in this tour, after all it's its 30th Anniversary this year and such a great album, any song from it in addition to Brain Stew would be greatly appreciated. If they throw in any song from Kerplunk or 1039/SOSH at every show, that'd be great too.3 points

I haven’t contributed before because I’m just not a person that gives things ratings, I never say something is my favourite or anything, I’ll just say if I love it. Had to comment though due to @solongfromthestars post just because it’s so fascinating, the differing opinions the same music generates among fans. Junkies on a high is a favourite of mine,I just love it and I really love Saviors too, only song I really dislike, and have since I first heard it, is Amy.3 points

According to the interviews I've read he relapsed in 2017 and again in 2022. If I remember correctly Dilemma was written in 2022 while being drunk. On the Howard Stern Show of January 2024 he talked about it and said he's sober now because he was fed up with being drunk and feeling tired all the time. For his own sake I really wish he manages to keep it that way. He seems so happy and healthy now!❤️3 points

Something in my mind was telling me it was since. I wasn't really following then, but some of those Longshot shows look quite... wet. 😅 I'm not judging at all, I have a very personal connection to alcoholism and addiction, and know it's extremely difficult for someone to stay completely sober. They've got to really really want to, and have an absolutely iron will. I don't think it's a character flaw if they don't because I know I wouldn't be able to do it. The problem with "oh, I'll just have a one," is that if you've got an addictive personality it can quickly slide to much much more. Which can make the "one drink" extremely stressful for those who care about the person in question. Which I suppose, really, is what Dilemma is about.3 points

(controversial take, I know ) I think the Trilogy is some of GD's most free and just fun work. Uno and Tre are always in my playlist, I have the CD of those albums playing semi constantly. They're just kick-ass punk records and you gotta (at least begrudgingly) like them. Dos feels more, experimental isn't quite the word, but definitely more 'let's try this and see what happens' and sometimes it works (Stray Heart, Baby Eyes, Stop When the Red Lights Flash) and sometimes....it really doesn't. Mixed bag for me, but still a fun album. Wow! That's Loud! is one of my favorite songs on the Trilogy as a whole. So yeah, I definitely give it a spin once in a while. Also there's F**K Time. You gotta at least admire any band that releases a song called F**K Time.3 points

Besides FOAM, I have to admit it's... Kerplunk! I know this album is loved by mamy, but as a whole Kerplunk never grabbed my attention. I only like it... I never had in on repeat to be totally immersed and captivated. I really like One For The Razorbacks, Christie Road, 80 but not the rest to be honest. But interestingly enough, I love 39/Smooth. I had a phase when I'd would listen to it on repeat, totally immersed. The same with other GD albums, but not Kerplunk. I'd rather put some FOAM songs like MMOTR, TTMAC (which are great) above Kerplunks - Dominated Love Slave, Sweet Chilsren, Strangeland, My Generation and Welcome to Paradise.3 points

I love the description of it as choose your own adventure . I never got wanting the albums to be cut down either. Love Brutal Love . I think because alongside the whole Billie rehab thing there were a lot of fun things as a fan during that era as well (including Billie coming out the other side much better) I don't see it too negatively. Kerplunk is great honestly . I think it's just out of all of their albums the two most similar are probably Kerplunk and Dookie (to me anyway) and Dookie happens to be better (naturally as it builds on Kerplunk and they were older/more experienced as songwriters and musicians and the techincal quality is much higher). Just means it doesn't stand out quite as much.2 points

I was talking about this with my sister after the European leg of the Saviors tour. She's the sis who went with me with to the AI and 21CBD tour shows in the US, and she asked if the band was still as energetic and so on, and I was trying to explain that yes they are, but in a less manic sort of way? It's hard to explain, but definitely I can perceive the difference between the Billie of the 21CBD tour and the Billie of the Saviors tours, like he's more present somehow? It's a very positive change and it makes me happy for him.2 points

Yes! Exactly! I think I rank Dos below Tre because Tre has Brutal Love in it which is the best song in the whole Trilogy, in my opinion. While the good songs in Dos and Tre beat the good songs in Uno, the bad songs in Uno are not that bad, so it's easy to sit through the whole thing. Out of curiosity, which are the songs that you have from Saviors? For me Father to a Son was great the first time I heard it, but it got boring pretty fast. And Suzie Chapstick, I know it's one of the fan favorites, but I just can't get into it... the lyrics are great, but the music, ugh. And it's very interesting to read your perspective on FOAM actually, so thanks for the essay. I agree with you regarding Meet Me on the Roof, the music is cheerful but the lyrics have always sounded quite dark, which is a juxtaposition I tend to enjoy. And you are right, when I qualified it before as "fun" album, I feel I should have qualified it instead as "not to be taken too seriously". The artwork, even they acted in some of the interviews they did to promote it, it all screams to not take it too seriously. And I had never thought of that in the light of Billie feeling self-conscious about singing about fame and money so openly, but now that you point it out it makes perfect sense. It's like when you are embarrassed to admit some deep truth, so you try to pass it off as joke. I'm with you on Amy (and I know there are many people who like). But for me The Forgotten is also equally bad.2 points

I think the general belief is he was ok until part way through the HM tour when it snuck up on him again. I’m sure he said in a Saviors interview that he’d thought he was ok to drink a little and blamed the drugs but has since realised he can’t and is now completely sober. There has been a lot of analysing what he’s been seen drinking but it’s always been alcohol free recently. I just want him to take care of himself but there is no denying he sounds and looks better when he’s well.2 points

Let Yourself Go is a banger, (the performance of it at Reading Festival 2013 is one of my favorite GD live moments). Restless Heart Syndrome never seems to get played, I agree. Shame, cuz it's a song that I love. (Then again, I'm a 21CB worshipper soooo)2 points

With the recent festivals GD has been at, they've been pulling out all sorts of songs from their old catalog that didn't make the official Saviors Tour setlist cut. 21 Guns appears to be a pretty much permanent fixture, especially in festivals in spots like Thailand and South Africa where they don't play much, they've played 2000 Light Years Away, Forever Now, Still Breathing, Revolution Radio (Loving the amount of Rev Rad stuff coming back) and even Paper Lanterns. My question to you is, what is one or two songs you'd love to see added to these festival dates, be it songs they haven't performed in a while, or setlist staples that just weren't on this tour? For me, seeing the political atmosphere we're in (not going to get too deep into that lol), having them bring out Bang Bang for the US dates would be sick. Or 99 Revolutions, which I still consider to be in my top four favorite Green Day album openers. Thoughts?1 point

The taxi driver who brought me into town said 'I can't believe you came to JAKARTA just to see Green Day' and I can't believe I'm coming here to say I did indeed go to Jakarta just to see Green Day. 😂 Back when I first became a fan, I read about the crazy Jakarta show in 1996 and thought I'd like to see them here one day, but I never thought I'd seriously do it. Since I was taking my mum to Japan anyway, I bought a ticket as soon as they went on sale and as it got closer I was like, 'what the fuck have I done?' But I got here and arrived at the venue around noon. There was no shade in the queue and I seriously thought I was coming down with heatstroke. Actually got up to leave at one point because I felt so faint but I dunked a whole bottle of water on my head and cooling towel (highly recommend the Sukeen ones) and started to feel better. I got lost on the way in because the place was huge but thanks to a Singaporean fan and some lovely Indonesian people I got onto the barrier where the crowd was split. The staff gave out plenty of water so by the time Rebellion Rose finished I felt much better. Rebellion Rose were really good. That was the loudest crowd I've ever been in for Bohemian Rhapsody and that carried on into American Dream. I was impressed! Haven't heard anyone screaming that song so loud before. The crowd gradually got a bit quieter, probably because of the heat. Several people had to be pulled out. I'd decided I wouldn't jump or go too crazy because of the potential heatstroke but I couldn't help it when Paper Lanterns started. Loved hearing that song again and Forever Now!!! Hands down one of the best Green Day songs, especially live, and I never thought I'd be fortunate enough to hear it again. There were quite a lot of phones and Billie told everyone to put them away during Longview. Of course he then had us all get them back out for the flashlights in Boulevard. The girl who got onstage for Know Your Enemy forgot the lyrics and Billie was so sweet about it. She sang the chorus to make up for it and she rocked! As a Muslim it made me so happy to see someone in hijab onstage 🥹 Billie behaved perfectly appropriately too, just giving her a fist bump. Unrelated to the gig itself but it was surreal to see a musholla at a Green Day show, with the sign in the Saviors font and everything😂 I ended up going as crazy as ever throughout the show but the heat exhaustion must have passed because I never felt ill again. Bobby Sox was the highlight for me. Billie asked 'do you want to be my girlfriend?' and 'do you want to be my boyfriend?' before starting the song and both times men and women screamed 'YEEEEES!!!' When Billie came out for Good Riddance, he joked, 'Jesus, how many people here can play Good Riddance? Well, I can play it too!' He asked if we wanted him to play it or someone from the crowd and everyone roared 'YOU!' He said he'd play it and 'I won't mess it up.' He did burp though. There were people from all over at the show - Philippines, Singapore, China, Saudi, Korea and of course me from England 😆1 point

FOAM, because it doesn’t feel like a Green Day album to me. In general Green Day is just not a “sex, drugs, and rock n roll” band — their music is warmer and more emotionally-based to me — and that’s pretty much all that album is. I think it’s what they wanted to make at that time and that’s fine, but I really don’t even count it in their discography because of how un-Green Day it feels.1 point

I actually did a cover of Nightlife on bass. It's a super groovy fun song to play. I have a mindset where I think albums have feelings, haha. When I haven't listened to an album in a long time I start to listen to it because I feel bad for it, lol. Does anyone else feel that way? Kind of OCD to be honest. Anyways, I love Dos. Super great album, despite what people say.1 point
