I can go with RS winning, their age shouldn’t matter at all as long as the humans are still making music - just my opinion, but the Beatles record is a complete fake and that I object to. Surely the likes of the Grammies should be trying to protect actual musicians and artists and not grouping AI/faked “music” alongside human performance but I guess with the amount of shit already out there that that boat has sailed! On a positive note, if you have to lose, losing to the Beatles and the Stones is no shame. I’ve never heard of St Vincent before, will need to look them up. As already said, the guys looked great and had fun on the red carpet.10 points

Regardless of the quality of the other nominations, The Beatles winning a Grammy in 2025 is a naff gimmick, especially when AI had to be used to lift Lennon's voice from an ancient tape. No, that's not quite the same as someone using AI to write a song, but as far as I'm concerned no art is 'legit' if AI is involved in its creation.9 points

Here is how they looked way back in 2006 ❤️. Mike dirnt literally looks the same, lol. Billie NEEDS to start wearing eyeliner more often, not just during shows. Tre's still rockin the eyeliner 🥰.7 points

Meh at least that mean Green Day will win a Grammy when they'll be dead.6 points

This. They released a new album with new material in the same cycle as Green Day. Sure, I wanted Green Day to win, but it is what is. I wouldn't say they had their time and therefore should be considered as a legacy band.... by that token anyone could say Green Day had their time in the 90's and that they should make way for newer bands. Even people who was born the year AI was released, are 20 years old right now, fully grown adults with the right to vote, so I'm sure plenty of them would feel the same way about Green Day, that they had their time and are a legacy band now. The Beatles though... !! They're just not an artist who is still making new music. I don't buy too much into the argument that it's AI generated, as @RongoIK said I think it's more accurate to think of it as a very powerful noise reduction tool. But it's still their voice, their lyrics, their arrangements, so I'm fine with that. But for me it's more a historical artifact that was restored, than something that should be competing (and winning) against artists who are still making new music. (And I also believe they are overly hyped to begin with).6 points

Ugh I can't believe they didn't win a single one! I was certain they would take home at least one award. Losing to the Stones? Fine, they at least put out a new album. But the Beatles? As far as I know, that was a previously unreleased song and they automatically get nominated? That fucking blows.6 points

If it's any consolation they all looked fit as fuck on the carpet. (Not the point, but ey, whatevs)5 points

Oh my god it really is the same thing every time. It sucks that it's in every comment section but it's just cringe Trump worshippers who were never fans. It's not people who used to like them changing their opinion it's just haters and people who know nothing about them getting exposed to posts about them when they wouldn't have in the past because of how shitty the Facebook algorithm is now purposely ragebaiting people to comment by showing them things their demographic might dislike. The lesbian comment is so stupid because they wouldn't even consider it an insult since they're not bigoted losers.4 points

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him wear a watch once in 20 years and it’s making me feel weird. He looks too smol for big watch.4 points

It's like a click button. I don't know what it's called but he had it at Kevin's birthday last month (it was on one of the band's Instagram stories) It's on the table here near Billie4 points

Sucks they didn't win anything as I really thought they had a chance this time around. Also, unrelated, but how have they not performed on SNL since 2009?4 points

I know it's disappointing but at least they got nominated for 3 categories. Recognising they GD are still around, relevant and loved. Great to see them there. ❤️4 points

I couldn’t care less about the Grammys. It was great to see them get nominated as it’s a recognition of their work, but all in all, I just don’t like it when we turn art into a competition. I know that the Grammys are prestigious and all, but award shows are just a weird concept… That Beatles thing though…I don’t know, that’s just bizarre.3 points

Mike in his glasses indeed The guys and their wives were all looking great last night.3 points

Was watching the SNL 50 years of music documentary, and you can see Tre for a split second during the closing credits. Odd that they'd show him instead of Billie or a band shot.3 points

Well, that's not the main reason most of us are "being salty". We are just all disappointed that they didn't win. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones are classic bands, but they are pretty old. Putting current bands up against older bands isn't fair. As I said before, the Beatles and the stones had their time, now it is the current bands' turn to be great. The AI thing is just another factor to it. You can have your opinion, that is fine, but we can have ours as well, and we shouldn't get called "salty and lame" just for speaking our minds .3 points

Here are some pics from the Grammys today. @Rumpelstiltskin2000 posted some of these first in the grammys thread, so if you want to see the rest she posted and will post, go to that thread. ❤️3 points

Kind of like Meryl Streep being nominated for a billion Oscars. I’m sure at a certain point other actresses are like “okay she’s great, but seriously?” Lol. If this year’s wins tell us anything, the boys are a shoe-in for whatever they release when they’re 80.3 points
-
Well the Stones I get it (even if I would have still preferred Green Day to win), they released a new album in the the 2023/2024 cycle too.... but The Beatles?3 points

In a way you can’t feel bad about losing to The Beatles and The Stones but on the other hand, how long are bands going to have to keep losing to the Beatles and the Stones? Like everyone I thought they had the best shot at Dilemma for song that one really hurts. This album may be their last best chance at Grammy recognition. Very sad about it 😢3 points
-
YES i totally agree. This needs to be about current musicians. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones were great in their time, but now it is time to move on and let current bands be great and win awards.3 points
-
Don't get me wrong I grew up with my sister crying and screaming at the TV when the Beatles were on and I know they're icons in their own right but shouldn't this be more about current musicians? There should be a legacy category for bands like the Stones and Beatles3 points
-
Kind of saw that one coming when I saw The Beatles was also in the run for that one (This might be my most unpopular opinion ever, but I will never get the crazy hype about The Beatles though). Disappointed about Dilemma not getting rock song though . I had higher hopes for that one.3 points

On this day last year (3 February 2024), Green Day performed American Idiot and Basket Case at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy Gala. More photos: 8 years ago (3 February 2017), Green Day played the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France on the Revolution Radio Tour. My enduring memory of this show is the Camembert Incident. It was still hours until doors, but the queue had become so packed that @Rumpelstiltskin2000 was splayed across a tipping barrier with a drunk man's half-eaten camembert and bottle of red wine in her face. I ended up with bruised ribs but I was so tired that it took me a while to realise there was anything wrong More photos: 20 years ago (3 February 2005), Green Day played Cardiff International Arena in Cardiff, Wales on the American Idiot Tour. That was the last time they played Wales. 27 years ago (3 February 1998), Green Day played the Élysée Montmartre in Paris, France on the Nimrod Tour. 'Green Day arrived. We shook hands with Billie Joe who wasn't very talkative during this period, but we exchanged a few words. Then we spoke to Mike, who was more talkative. Then came Tré, reeking of weed. He had difficulty climbing up the stairs while carrying a football (very athletic). The security opened the doors and lets us in. Here comes GREEN DAY! Welcome To Paradise was like an explosion. Of course they played a lot of other songs but I forgot a large portion of the set. That was a poweful and loud show. Billie Joe chose me to get up on stage to play guitar for Knowledge. I tried to climb the barrier, but the fucking security guy shoved into a wall. Billie Joe winked at me. The shows ended with Time Of Your Life played by Billie on his Strat. And it was finished! Fucking awesome show!' — Philou More pics:2 points

I think I’ve noticed him wear a watch twice before and one of those was on the Back In The USA video! Don’t remember the other one now. Mike is very cute in his glasses. ❤️❤️❤️2 points

Exactly. This isn't the same thing... It's just all grouped together. I completely despise any artifical generation and I'd 100% disagree with the award if Now and Then is artificial.2 points

If nothing else I wish they were performing tonight. With the rock awards being announced already, it would make for a longer night. Are any rock acts performing tonight?2 points

Yeah, im not trying to be mean, just sayin. You got to admit though, AI is starting to get scary. It can copy voices, faces, steal your job etc.2 points

Just keep an open mind then is all I ask. Stop letting words like "artificial intelligence" scare you2 points

The Beatles should not have been eligible, but not because of the AI thing. That argument is kinda ridiculous to me2 points

Today (2 February 2025), Green Day attended the Grammy Awards. They were nominated for Best Rock Performance (The American Dream Is Killing Me), Best Rock Song (Dilemma) and Best Rock Album (Saviors), but sadly didn't win any of them. More photos: 2 years ago (2 February 2023), The Coverups played Retro Junkie in Walnut Creek, CA. More photos: 8 years ago (2 February 2017), Green Day played the Forest National in Brussels, Belgium on the Revolution Radio Tour. I really wasn't supposed to go to this show I saw a friend selling a ticket and impulsively decided to go. I took my luggage with me to uni because I'd be getting the bus all the way from Cornwall to Brussels as soon as my last class ended. I had a group review that morning (where we all shared our photos and gave feedback) and I'd just started doing the My Rage My Love My Life documentary as my final project. Everyone already thought I was insane. Then one of my classmates asked when I was next seeing Green Day. I was like... 'actually, I’m getting the night bus to London to go to Brussels tonight. I just booked it in the library.’ The journey took about 24 hours and I don't think I slept at all until we arrived in Brussels (because I'd convinced @Rumpelstiltskin2000 to join me, of course). Then my alarm went off at 5AM or whenever it was and we went to the venue. It was a warm, stress-free day. The venue actually honoured the number system. We got one of the best spots we'd ever had at the time, almost in the corner between Billie and Mike. I actually took a couple of decent phone pics: Here's the recap I wrote back then: 'When Green Day came on, one of the guys we queued with was the first fan on stage. Billie snatched his Danish flag and displayed a Belgian one instead (all in good fun, of course). I’m not someone who really cares about the setlist. I wouldn’t go to so many shows if I found it dull. But when Billie began playing the intro to Troubled Times, the crowd clapping along, I must have deafened the people around me. They’d played it at the previous show in Amsterdam, but I didn’t think they’d ever play it again. It was so powerful live and I will never forget hearing it in a foreign country after impulsively making a 24 hour bus journey from Cornwall. In Longview, the girl Billie pulled up to sing attached herself to Tré and he had to tell her "you’re here to sing, not make out with Tré Cool!" Before playing Scattered, Billie announced "it’s Aimee from The Interrupters’ birthday today" before beginning a song it took me a few seconds to recognise. Then I turned to my mum and screamed "it’s Amy!"' More photos: 20 years ago (2 February 2005), Green Day performed Holiday on Top of the Pops. Later that day, they played the Plymouth Pavilions in Plymouth, England on the American Idiot Tour. So they played Nottingham, where I'm from, and Plymouth, which is insanely close to where I went to uni, considering that no bands ever go to Cornwall. COME BAAAACK! And do a proper UK tour! 24 years ago (2 February 2001), Green Day performed Warning on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Another photo: 29 years ago (2 February 1996), Green Day played the Convention Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia on the Insomniac Tour. This show was one of the biggest moments in the Indonesian punk scene at the time. The 6,000-capacity venue was over capacity, and kids who couldn’t afford pit tickets were jumping down from the balcony. It was already so packed that people were getting injured – even members of the support act had to step outside for air – when outside, fans who couldn’t afford tickets at all began to break the door down. The security staff couldn’t cope and several people were hospitalised after the show. News outlets and some Indonesian punks were baffled that anyone felt Green Day were worthy of such fuss, but clearly they were!2 points

This won’t be their last pretty soon they will automatically win like the stones and Beatles. I bet their next record is successful abs gets nominated for many categories2 points

Yeah, I figured the Beatles and Rolling Stones would get theirs. Thought our best chance was song, but figured that wasn't likely when I saw St. Vincent was performing at the main show tonight.2 points

Bloody hell, not album either, Rolling Stones. Always knew that would be a tough call. Disappointed for our boys not getting the recognition and having to sit through hours of that awful show. At least I can go to bed now 😂2 points

Fuck, The Beatles got best rock performance! How is that even eligible! Sean accepting the award too. Ffs2 points
