  3. 8 years ago yesterday (21 December 2016), Billie performed Ordinary World on Conan. More photos: 33 years ago (21 December 1991), Green Day played The Den in Wigan, England. "Right before the first song, I Was There, the band did the Nativity Play, starring Billie Joe as 'three schizophrenic wise men', Mike as a narrator and Santa Claus, Tre Cool as Virgin Mary, Sean Hughes as baby Jesus, and Sean Forbes of Wat Tyler as the Easter Bunny." @Dingle I'm sure everyone would love to hear more about your experience at that show if you feel like sharing. More photos: --------------------------- On this day 33 years ago (22 December 1991), Green Day played the Wheatsheaf in Stoke-on-Trent, England. "One of the most unlikely must be Green Day at the Wheatsheaf in December 1991. Of all the gigs I saw at the 'Sheaf it was the only time the bands played in the smaller upstairs room. I didn't know GD and only went along because I was friends with great Stoke hardcore outfit Exit Condition who were the support. It turned into a storming night with at one point Billie Joe playing while lying on his back in the middle of the floor." – Snowdog "I saw Shutdown play with Green Day at the Wheatsheaf in Stoke-on-Trent. I remember thinking that Shutdown would be going on to great things one day. I didn't rate Green Day that much... Funny how Green Day are now millionaires and Shutdown never got the recognition that they deserved. I'm interested in hearing their new project The Great Leap Forward though." — Paul Green Day for £3.50 in fucking Stoke-on-Trent... I've never even been there and I don't live that far away.

  6. On this day 33 years ago (24 December 1991), Green Day played the Rumble Club in Tunbridge Wells, England, which is also a pretty random place. "Second show 24th December 1991 was Pseudo Hippies, Couch Potatoes and Jailcell Recipes and had an abridged version of the Nativity Play, and my bassist passed out drunk whilst crowdsurfing and they stopped mid-song to check he was okay. I have never seen any photos from either show sadly." — Nick Wilkinson There isn't anything on the list for tomorrow, so have Green Day singing a Christmas song

  10. I would sell a 21CB 10" book, if a fan is really looking, I just don't want to sell to a re-seller. But shipping will be a bitch since it's heavy and I live in Europe (and shipping prices are rising worldwide)..

  11. I could hug you. That tour of '91, the first time I saw GD, unforgettable. At the Den, Wigan December 21st. Imho the most obscure. You never forget the first time. Just like your first kiss.

  12. On this day 33 years ago (20 December 1991), Green Day played the New Adelphi Club in Hull, England. "Nothing could've been more spit-and-sawdust than the band's gig in Hull's Adelphi, which saw Tre taking over van-driver responsibilities en route and driving at 90mph down Lincolnshire A-roads to reach the gig in the nick of time!" — Kerrang I can't believe Green Day actually played Hull. I'm going to keep saying this about these early English gigs. Stoke-on-Trent might be the winner of obscure English places though?

  13. 15 years ago yesterday (18 December 2009), Green Day played the Vector Arena in Auckland, New Zealand on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: 33 years ago (18 December 1991), Green Day played the Rumble Club in Tunbridge Wells, England. "There were 2 shows at The Rumble Club in Tunbridge Wells, the first was on 18th December 1991 (99% sure on that date) as well as Christmas Eve. The first show had (my band) Angus Bagpipe, Pseudo Hippies and Couch Potatoes. I remember they wore dresses and BJ told everyone to sit down cross-legged and he slithered around through the crowd. I was told that Tre was found asleep on a pool table the following morning!" — Nick Wilkinson -------------------------------- On this day 6 years ago (19 December 2018), The Coverups played the Ivy Room in Albany, CA. More photos: 15 years ago (19 December 2009), Green Day played a second night in Auckland, New Zealand on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. It was their last show of 2009. They played Homecoming, which was a huge deal back then. 32 years ago (19 December 1992), Green Day played the Berkeley Square nightclub in... BERKELEY! Shocking stuff. If anyone knows who took these photos, please tell me and I'll add credit More photos: 33 years ago (19 December 1991), Green Day played the Rails in London, England. Setlist.fm says they played Sheffield that day, but doesn't have any record of them playing the Rails, so I think GDA must be right given that there are people who remember the Rails gig?

And that was in Southampton!" — Billie at the Isle of Wight Festival this year. So he was either wrong or the setlists online are incomplete. More photos:

It’s now a Starbucks… sorrow. I have a great memory of playing there. No one was allowed to dance in fear of the roof caving in. Everyone was so friendly. "As with the show in LA, Whip It was played right before Green Day came on. Billie, Mike, and Tre ran onto the stage. Everyone went wild. Then with no intro, Billie starts with, 'Here we go again,' then Mike and Tre join in. After like the third song, some prick in the audience started throwing shit at Mike. Mike warned him by stating, 'If you throw anything else, I'm going to beat your fucking ass.' Well, after the next song, Mike jumped into the crowd to do just that, beat that kid's ass. Guess who it was? It was Mark Hoppus from the band Blink-182. (What a dick!) Anyway, they played just about everything I could have asked for (save for Eye Of The Tiger). They even brought a kid up on stage to play Knowledge with them. Billie is hilarious. He made fun of Bush, Matchbox 20, and especially Marilyn Manson. He even sang The Beautiful People over the bass line of Longview. At the end of the show, as always, Mike and Tre trashed the stage while Billie played around with his guitar playing some nasty-ass chords. Then he closed with Good Riddance. I swear to God it brought tears to my eyes. It was the best show I ever seen." — Rick Savage 29 years ago (8 December 1995), Green Day played the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX on the Insomniac Tour. 32 years ago (8 December 1992), Green Day played Thunder Bay in Berkeley, CA. 33 years ago (8 December 1991), Green Day played Vort'n Vis in Ypres, Belgium. "I was there, interviewed Billie Joe and Tre for my zine. They were really nice, we talked for 30 minutes on the first floor. And their concert was excellent! They played for 45 minutes, good level of energy, they seemed to enjoy themselves. I went to a lot of gigs at the Vort'n Vis at that time and I definitely respect them more than many of 'DIY' hardcore punk bands playing drunk, being very sloppy and touring Europe solely for sightseeing and free beer." — Philippe Klur Interestingly, someone else said the opposite: "Mike Dirnt, Tré Cool and Billie Joe Armstrong acted really 'cool'. They weren't very friendly, mildly put. Were they having a 'green day'? Or were they expecting a fancier venuer? Never saw any photos of that gig. The only trace of their passage seems to be the entry in the Vort'n Vis guestbook." — 90's Vort'n Vis 35 years ago (8 December 1989), Green Day played 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, CA. More photos:
