Somebody take me back to this time last year when The American Dream Is Killing Me was being hyped up..8 points

International Superhits was a great one to get as a new fan who didn’t know where to start. I got into Green Day when my dad bought American Idiot. He played it in the car all the time. As an angsty pre-teen I was into heavier rock and wasn’t sure if I liked Green Day because they were comparatively upbeat. It took six months before they wore me down and I was like “fine, not only do I like Green Day but I think I have a bigger problem because I REALLY like their singer.” After that was when I got ISH and funny enough, Shenanigans, which I don’t think I had any idea was a compilation album, because I was 12 and probably didn’t even know what a compilation album was. Those were the two main CDs I listened to on my boombox in my early fangirl days. I absolutely LOVE Shenanigans, I have such a fondness for songs like Desensitized and You Lied and Scumbag. Another album I haven’t listened to in a minute that I’m now revisiting. I have so many strong memories attached to it that are being unearthed listening to it!8 points

He’s such a talented sleepwalker putting on all those awesome shows in September! What a guy!7 points

I think he should be left in peace this morning to get a long lie, he must be exhausted after the tour! 😉7 points

I'm also hearing unconfirmed reports of a new (old) single that will be released sometime today. Allegedly it's called "Shut the fuck up when October comes", and is unlisted on YouTube from 2010.7 points

There's a thread on r/music on this with over 3000 comments. Great majority of which fall into one of three categories- 1. Also shitting on Vegas. 2. Pointing out he's from Oakland so duh. 3. Talking about how great the tour was. Nice change from the far right insults.7 points

The order in which I got the rest of their discography after becoming obsessed with AI was entirely dictated by the order in which I was able to find them in record stores. And it was pretty random too. I remember Shenanigans was one of the first I found, while Dookie took a lot longer and a lot more visiting. 1039 and Kerplunk were of course the last ones, with Kerplunk being the very last. I think I found 1039 in a record store in Venezuela if I remember correctly, while Kerplunk I only found during a visit to the US. Good times, I remember after I raided all the stores in my area and got all the "easy" ones, I started visiting record stores every where I went, or going to certain areas or shopping malls just to visit a record store there. And I'd get so excited whenever I found another album5 points

On this day 8 years ago (1 October 2016), Green Day played the House of Blues in Boston, MA on the Revolution Radio club tour. More photos: 15 years ago (1 October 2009), Green Day played the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. The GDC thread for this show is still up if anyone wants to read it. I used to see that photo a lot and never knew what it was from. More photos: 19 years ago (1 October 2005), Green Day played the Save Mart Center in Fresno, CA on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: 20 years ago (1 October 2004), Green Day played Zeche in Bochum, Germany on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: 24 years ago (1 October 2000), Green Day played the 99X Big Day Out in Atlanta, GA. Other acts included Eve 6, Everclear, Papa Roach, Stone Temple Pilots and Stroke 9. 31 years ago (1 October 1993), Green Day played the Roseland Ballroom in NYC while supporting Bad Religion. The photo on the back of Dookie came from this show. "I saw Green Day live in '93, right before Dookie came out (they were the opening act, Bad Religion was the headliner). Billie Joe explictly stated that Kerplunk! was the sound of a turd hitting the water in the toilet bowl. During the same bit of stage patter, he said that the venue - NYC's Roseland Ballroom - looked to him like a giant toilet bowl. The guy's got a one-track mind, I guess. It was a good show, though. In fact, as good as Bad Religion were that night, Green Day were even better, which was a surprise as I had never heard of them at the time. A few years later, I saw them live again and was less impressed: Billie Joe wasted way too much time on his stupid antics, like spitting in the air and trying to catch it. It got so bad that half the crowd was shouting, 'Play a fucking song!' He did some of that stupid stuff at the Bad Religion show too, but not nearly as much, probably due to their shorter alloted time." – Eddie "Ernie from Sesame Street was on the original back cover of Dookie... the story goes, a grandmother bought Dookie for her grandchildren because she thought it was a children’s album. Whoops. And well... we had to take Ernie off... this photo taken in 1993. We opened for Bad Religion at Roseland Ballroom in New York." — Billie Joe 32 years ago (1 October 1992), Green Day played Rainbow Rocks in Longview, WA on the Kerplunk Tour. And as has been mentioned before, the song Longview is named after the place.4 points

Couldn’t even make it to 10am and I got hit with this twice at work. Truly this is every fan’s burden to share 😞4 points

When your co-worker asks you what color eyeballs she should get for her Halloween decorations, and you of course tell her green, due to a certain frontman.3 points

Funnily enough Shenanigans was the hardest for me to find. I eventually found a copy of the disc and booklet only at the Salvation Army. But that's wasn't good enough so a few years later I picked up a proper copy at my local record store.3 points

Regarding this, on September 1st I was sleeping and my mother wakes me up and I said to her: "Mom, wake me up when September ends." Today is October 1st and she just woke me up at 6:30 in the morning and says: "Son, September is over. Wake up." Thanks mom for taking what I said seriously hahahahahahaha.3 points

Tbh now I like festivals, cause I don't need to pay ridiculous amount of money for VIP ticket to have a spont in the front row. So I'm super excited for more announcements!3 points

Tour has been amazing. 😩❤️ Everyone should see them if they can.3 points

Sequence won't be quite right as not posted any pics that didn't relate to Green Day Does Jason call Greg a fish taco?3 points

I just made a noise that can only be described as a squeal upon seeing that cocoa packaging. Yes, I will buy anything with an adorable cartoon Green Day illustration (and Lenny! 🥰) on it.3 points

Oh man, this takes me back to when I was just getting into Green Day. I found both Dookie and ISH at Walmart and had them in the cart trying to figure out which one to get with my allowance. I think I picked ISH because it had a good amount of Dookie songs on there. I picked up Dookie later3 points

I actually wore out my International Superhits CD! Not listened to it in a while, must go back to it.3 points

Honestly, I get that many of us don’t like festivals, me neither, but this tour has been so good, the band, production everything has been so good, I would say to anyone who hasn’t had the chance to go yet, do go if you can, festival or not.3 points

Oh phew. I was worried he was going to miss his alarm and never wake up. He's gotta get ready for the AMA's this weekend!2 points

Came across this statement in Wikipedia that, earlier this year the album Dookie was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, and inform and reflect life in the United States". The National Recording Preservation Act of 2000 established a national program to guard America's sound recording heritage.2 points

Another pic of Billie with the Linda Lindas last night from Isabel Salazar's Instagram story I've cropped this one too Original here https://www.instagram.com/stories/isabela.salaza.r/3467974274978605093?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igsh=YnltNDl4ODJhMDZ5 Pic of the band and crew from Alice Baxley's Instagram story2 points

I saw them at the Tower Theater in Philly 8 years ago today. One of the most special concerts of theirs I’ve been to. It’s an old theater and I thought the balcony was going to collapse every time Billie told us to jump. I still remember watching them perform Still Breathing and feeling blown away by all of the emotion attached to it. It was a really joyful night, very similar to the Saviors Tour in that respect.2 points

If I were him, I would just sleep straight through this election (I mean, wake up in enough time to vote, but still).1 point

There was a period of time when I was a baby fangirl that I had the International Superhits booklet propped up on my nightstand so I could look at Billie every night before bed. I listened to that album alllllll the time and was very attached to that booklet. Wasn’t even that cute of a photoshoot, haha. This conversation has led me back to listening to Poprocks & Coke for the first time in forever and it made me so happy. It’s such a cute, happy little bop.1 point

Agreed! The packaging alone makes me want to grab some, but I have to watch my funds.1 point

I know right! They should at least have put the VIP area closer to the main stage. My vision isn't getting any better. Geez. 🫣😅1 point

https://www.punkbunnycoffee.com/collections/the-extra-special-holiday-collection/holiday2024 Got an email for these. They have the funniest marketing and I love the packaging (Fancy Sauce!) I just don’t have a use for ground or cocoa but damn I want that tin and those bags ETA: Also, did you spot Lenny on that cocoa tin?1 point

The positive is that they haven't forgotten that Scandinavia exist and those of us who live in Oslo/close to Oslo will save money cause we won't need a hotel. I hate festivals and would have prefered going to Ålesund again over this.1 point
-
The moment I saw it I was like "Yay 🥳". A second later I realized it's a festival and I was like "Oh no 😒" I hate festivals. If they'll sell single day tickets, I may be going to the Hurricane, because it's very close to where I live (about an hour by train), but other than that I don't want to do any festivals. So fingers crossed for some regular shows 🤞1 point

On this day 12 years ago (21 September 2012), Green Day played the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, NV. I’m not going to post any photos of the meltdown, but I’ll post Tre trying to stop the cameraman filming Billie. 19 years ago (21 September 2005), Green Day played in Salt Lake City, UT on the American Idiot Tour. "The always entertaining and mucho energetic Armstrong ran around all parts of the stage encouraging the crowd to chant, clap and even do the wave. He kept the shrieking level high with calls of 'Salt Lake City!' while pyrotechnics went off at different points of the night on a stage built to resemble a totalitarian political rally." — Deseret News 20 years ago (21 September 2004), Green Day played Irving Plaza in NYC on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: American Idiot was also released 20 years ago today. 24 years ago (21 September 2000), Green Day played in Barcelona, Spain on the Warning Tour. 27 years ago (21 September 1997), Green Day played in Cologne, Germany on the Nimrod Tour. 29 years ago (21 September 1995), Green Day played a second night at Brixton Academy in London, England on the Insomniac Tour. 33 years ago (21 September 1991), Green Day played at Cloyne Court in Berkeley, CA. "I saw Green Day in the basement of a co-op house with five other bands for $5 in 1991. They came from punk. Billie Joe was practically living on the streets then and you could smell him from across the room." — Christopher Federico "Sept. 21, 1991. Benefit for the Slingshot anarchist newspaper. Surely one of the greatest Cloyne shows ever. Cops broke up the show, as was too common back in the day. People climbing out the windows of the dining room (where the bands were playing) to get away. Green Day didn't get to finish their set." — Anthony Lew1 point

When you are having dinner with a group of people, most of which you've never met before, and before the end of the night you've hyped up the girl sitting next to you, whom you just met, so much about this Green Day tour that she pulls out her phone to see if there are any affordable tickets left for an upcoming Green Day show 😅1 point
