I cannot believe people were actually offended by that comment. The first time I saw Green Day in Glasgow, Billie went on a short but vehement rant about Scotland being better than England, then kept saying "fuck England" throughout the show... and we hadn't even stolen his sports teams. I don't think it even made it into the local rag because it was obvious he was just riling up the crowd. Like... that's what performers do. It's like the press jumped on whatever he said about moving to the UK on Hella Mega. He's always said stuff like that but people knew he was exaggerating. RIP common sense.8 points

Basically it comes down to greed. Oakland's stadium is a dump and has needed renovations forever, but the owner decided to move the franchise to Vegas instead because instead of making $2 billion he could probably make $6 billion a year. The worst part is despite the backlash from fans, baseball writers, media, etc, MLB owners allowed this move to happen and that's the sick part. This move didn't have to happen. It's all just a damn shame because the Oakland A's have such a storied history and played in such a unique stadium/atmosphere. Just sucks to see them move.6 points

Sports in the US are a business like any other. In most cities they’ve built new dedicated football and baseball stadiums for their teams using taxpayer money that have luxury boxes and modern features that bring in more money for the teams and the owners. Oakland however is not a wealthy city and still uses their decades old Coliseum for all sports. The owners complained they couldn’t compete with other teams (read: make billions for their organization and many more millions for the owners and have millions to pay their star players) because they can’t bring in enough revenue but the city won’t pay for new stadiums. So the owners just move the team to a wealthier city with modern facilities. It’s all about money.6 points

They’re being smart about where to license their songs to reach new audiences and they’re hitting a lot of milestones this year with the two album anniversaries, the billion streams, the double diamond award, the star on the walk of fame. Everything they have yet to achieve seems to be happening for them now6 points

Hilarious . So much silly drama any time Billie says anything lately. Also extremely obvious he's not talking about regular people who live in Las Vegas.6 points

This is the part where Billie was complaining about them taking the Raiders from him at the 2021 Vegas show😂 I totally get why he might want to complain after losing two local teams to the same place in such a short time5 points

8 years ago yesterday (26 September 2016), Green Day played the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, OH. More photos: 19 years ago (26 September 2005), Green Day played in Tacoma, WA on the American Idiot Tour. 27 years ago (26 September 1997), Green Day played a second night in London, England on the Nimrod Tour. 31 years ago (26 September 1993), Green Day played The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA while supporting Bad Religion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On this day 19 years ago (27 September 2005), Green Day played the General Motors Place in Vancouver, Canada on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: 32 years ago (27 September 1992), Green Day played the Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center in Berkeley, CA. I'm not a fan of Heart Like a Hand Grenade but I do like Cuatro. It's a simple collection of studio videos and snippets of small shows from 2011–2012. I might not bother watching it if I didn't like the trilogy though.5 points

The other thing that sucks about it is Oakland also lost two other major sports teams to other cities in the last 5 years (including another one to Vegas). That has to suck.5 points

Well, it appears Vegas radio station X107.5 has banned Green Day from their airwaves. How will they ever survive? This seems like an incredibly lame stance by the station, but whatever. I mean, Vegas hasn't been great for them with iHeart and Vegas taking two of Oakland's pro franchises. Thoughts?4 points

I was at the SF show and after his little rant a girl next to me said something like, "Hey, I love vegas!" So yeah people get offended by his comments easily apparently4 points
-
^ He did, said "Also no offense to people in Vegas, it was in the heat of passion" Anyone got video of when he said it? Or know which song it was during?4 points

Yeah I think he says something like "No offense to the people in Vegas, it was in the heat of passion"4 points

I thought it was fake drama to promote the radio station but there are actually lots of offended Vegas residents in Billie's Instagram comments.3 points

I think Billie says something at the end like "no offence to Vegas. It was said in the heat of passion" or something like that? There's more pics on Billie's Instagram story but not had chance to check if they're duplicated or not yet3 points

I haven’t even been thinking about the Grammys, but I hope they get some recognition. Would be awesome if they had them perform in celebration of these milestones.2 points

Lol. Pussy ass bitches. I'd be mad a city too if two of my favourite things had relocated there purely for financial gain.2 points

I went to the Seattle show with my wife and two friends. The entire concert experience was excellent - didn't feel too long. Everyones set and sounds were great. Green Days set and state design surpassed my expectations. I loved the Dookie set more than I anticipated, and felt the graphics / visual / floats were top notch. Seriously worth the money.2 points

I noticed Hot Topic has a cool new TADIKM tee on their website. I like how this one actually has them on it from the video. Looks better than the zombie tees that are sold at shows and on Green Day’s store site in my opinion. https://www.hottopic.com/product/green-day-zombies-glow-in-the-dark-t-shirt/33194010.html2 points

Green Day is everywhere since Saviors. Can't remember when was the last time the media, TV, movies, radio, etc... talked about them this much. Good or bad I don't care Green Day is everywhere this year. And let's be honest, when it's bad it's not that bad (trump mask, vegas radio, USA residency) They're doing awards shows, got song on a video game, they did a sport event last november, late night show... name it. They're everywhere baby!2 points

I had a good time yesterday. But one fan(early in the day, while waiting) started being very hostile and rude to me saying I wasn't allowed to be on barricade or ever go to shows in the Westcoast. And got mad I got there early to wait... kinda dampered my time waiting as I felt uncomfortable talking to anyone else waiting because this rude person. We met at a show in 2022, but this person showed their true colors a year ago and I cut the friendship off a year ago. Haven't spoken since. Until they came and started yelling at me when I was not even talking to them.2 points

is this real? Okay I'm sure Billie is super bummed about being banned on Vegas radio. It's Billie, Chicago and every other city happily welcomes you!2 points
-
Vegas isn’t even a real city, it’s a bunch of casinos built by mobsters and billionaires with a city that grew around it to feed the beast. It’s fitting that we finally get high speed rail in this country and it’s a line from LA to Vegas to bring more people in to spend their money. Capitalism will always win2 points
-
How moronic lol. After he said that in his Letterbomb speech he was like “but anyway, I’ll take it down a bit” indicating he knew he was getting a bit too riled up in the moment lol. And he has a specific, valid beef with Vegas over losing multiple sports teams to them, so like…(also he’s correct, I hate going to Vegas for work lmao).2 points

And Clevelanders thought they had it bad with the Browns. I can't imagine losing everybody. Nuts.1 point

Thanks @pacejunkie punk and @JardyOfSuburbia, those were really clear explanations! And yes, I saw a person who is very passionate about baseball, but not from the bay area, and not a supporter of Oakland's teams, ranting about this in Instagram which is why I got curious about. Seems everyone who cares about baseball is pissed about this, which I understand now.1 point

I love seeing Green Day at award shows. Takes me back to AI era where they appeared at what felt like every award show, performed, and won! Makes me excited because otherwise I wouldn't watch1 point

Last Night On Earth is just a beautiful song regardless of what music you like. It reminds me of The Beatles song Something by George Harrison. This should have been a single especially in 2009 this could have been a huge crossover hit IMO.1 point

Thanks for the reminder! I've added the Golden Bull. Also added the Uptown, Toot's Tavern and the Ivy Room. They're just random places the band have played really, but they were reasonably special shows and other than the Ivy Room, they're very close to other landmarks. I originally went looking for the old thread to share some photos of Christie Road that I hadn't edited before, so I'm going to share them here. These aren't Bay Area landmarks, but I wanted to share these New York ones anyway. The St. James Theatre: And the namesake of 8th Avenue Serenade, of course! I hope you can make it one day!1 point
