  1. Still can't believe how good this album is. Latest song I'm obsessed with is Coma City. Besides adoring the tune from a musical point of view, I just love how it describes today's reality where everything seems to be going down the drain and no one gives a fuck or does anything to prevent it. We're all just boarding up our windows and drinking our lemonades, while we live in a collective coma waiting for the inexorable to happen. Love the instrumental outro. Feels like the apocalypse, everything is going to shit around us - shootings, war, chaos (Tré especially does a hell of a job conveying all that) - but no one does or says anything anymore; even the narrator has fallen into the coma and is left without words. Not to mention how all of that is picked up again by Saviors later on: "Everyone's asleep but nobody's dreaming / We got all the fiction that's worth believing". There's just no dream worth believing in anymore apart from the bullshit we get fed with every single day. Fucking genius. A punch in the gut every time I listen to it.

  3. Didn't have time to post yesterday. So, 15 years ago yesterday (20 May 2009), Green Day played the PC Richard Theatre in NYC. More pics: 16 years ago yesterday (20 May 2008), Stop Drop & Roll was released. The Foxboro Hot Tubs also played in New Orleans. More pics: "Dear Tub Heads, Damn my shoes are gravy!! We kicked our two step through the big easy. Toastin tequila shots to my main man Trombone Shorty! All the Honeydips and Big Dogs came out to One Eyed Jacks. I did a little magic trick by turnin a tall boy into a bottle of Jack. Then I got Bourbon faced on Shit Street! Sting!!!!!!! There's a whole lotta lushotology in this town. My Man Mr Freese lost his mouth piece but found it back at Juanitas! Thank you, baby!I need to see a little more dressin up out out there! Drop your laundry and let's get down, now.. Sting! Sting! Reverend Strychnine Twitch" — The Rev on MySpace As we all know, "drop your laundry" later became a Fuck Time lyric. 19 years ago (20 May 2005), Green Day played in Calgary, Canada on the American Idiot Tour. 22 years ago (20 May 2002), they played in Charlotte, NC on the Pop Disaster Tour. Maria must have been a great opener. I am not saying that just because it's my name. 26 years ago (20 May 1998), they played in Cincinnati, OH. No photos but there is a nice article written before the show. For some reason I was convinced Cincinnati was on the east coast until this project taught me otherwise. I know everyone was waiting with bated breath for that information. 30 years ago (20 May 1994), Green Day played in Hahn, Germany on the Dookie Tour. 31 years ago (20 May 1993), they played Slim's in San Francisco. This was their first of three shows there. The other two were later in 1994. And 32 years ago (20 May 1992), they played in Sioux Falls, SD on the Kerplunk Tour. Right, now onto today. On this day four years ago (21 May 2020), the Dreaming video was released. 15 years ago (2009), Green Day were on The Colbert Report. 16 years ago (2008), the Foxboro Hot Tubs played in Dallas, TX. "Texas hold em? Damn near killed em! Texas hold em? Damn near killed em! Aaaaahhhooooouunshshdhuybedkksjbdhchfuduuiiim? Tub heads! Another rock n roll execution! Texas style, Babys! We rode the mechanical bull at Gilleys.. Smoke up Johnny proved to be THEE urban cowboys!! I mentally undressed Dallas then jumped into a 71 stolen cadillac straight to Austin! Where all the Honeydips grabbed the bull by the horns! That's what I'm talkin bout! STING!!! STING!!" — The Rev on MySpace My favourite Rev quote might be "Aaaaahhhooooouunshshdhuybedkksjbdhchfuduuiiim?" Although "I mentally undressed Dallas" is also high quality. 30 years ago, Green Day played Breminale Festival 1994. And 32 years ago, they played on a farm in Saint Peter, MN. You would never get any judgement from me even if you did have to whip out the calculator for that, because I've used it to check I've got it right for every single era. Maths is not my strong suit. And it is seriously unbelievable that was seven years ago. I'd forgotten just how insane The Rev was

  4. I was in a rush for new music after the last few records, but right now I’m not even thinking about it. I think I was in a rush before because the music wasn’t as satisfactory. Saviors is so good that it’s quenching my thirst and I’m enjoying it still months later. It’s honestly a great record. I’ll always be excited for new Green Day, but this is a quality product that will keep me happy and satisfied for quite some time, I think.

  6. Chiming in on this a year later as I've just ordered the Blue body for my replica. I've had many discussions with other players and some luthiers/techs about this over the years. Doing some research on this myself, I also found a Fernandes catalog prior to this one, 1981: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i6w61lfyv8si3ut/1981 Fernandes Catalog %26 Price list Vol.2 v1.pdf?e=1&dl=0 It appears that at a certain point it was officially referred to just as "Blue". I don't think Fernandes was particular about the colors, less so than flying under the radar until Fender caught on to what they were doing. That being said, the main thing to look at is how either color ages overtime. Daphne ages to more of a green, while Sonic goes grey with age. Billie's Blue has definitely aged of the green persuasion looking at photos in more recent times. Another factor to consider as well is unfortunately for the historians, Daphne and Sonic blue have never been consistently produced over the years. Fender and all the big companies just make the paint batches, then say 'that's sonic' and 'thats Daphne' at various points in time. Based on how the Fernandes catalogs are laid out, they took the same approach. Truly a strange phenomenon, lol. I also feel it adds a bit of fun to the lore for the replica makers as we all perceive colors differently as people. I went with Daphne Blue for my build, someone else may pick Sonic because it's what they see. I'm sure a few of you might've read this already, but GreenDayFM talked to Billie and Mike's teacher George Cole in 2021. Naturally, Blue got brought up in the conversation and is overall a really cool conversation: https://greenday.fm/news/george-cole-reflects-on-teaching-green-day-his-old-blue-guitar/

  8. Very cool, thank you for confirming! Those Japanese guitar magazines have always been really good about capturing clear photos of artists gear and these are no exception! On the Fernandes LE-1 (third from the right), you can see where Bill Schneider rounded the headstock over removing the sharp edge. It's also visible that he took off the Fernandes logo too. Among other details, the pink Strat has the most random stickers on it. North American Fishing Club and Quasar (the electronics company) among others. The sticker on the pickguard is a Bouncing Souls piece. Underneath the "ASS" it says "Bouncing Souls East Coast Fuck You", which is one of their songs. There's at least one Souls sticker on each Strat Billie played on the nimrod tour, including the original Blue. The black Strat on the right was for Timmy Chunks, Billie's first long term tech (and hardcore legend). When they played King For A Day (and Platypus if it was in the set), that was his guitar to play. There's a Souls sticker on his guitar too, just the self-titled album cover. Fun fact: Prior to the Souls touring with Green Day in 2000, Timmy has been lifelong friends with the band. So it makes complete sense their stickers are all over GD's gear.

  13. Slow and steady. I kind of wish Bobby Sox got promoted more. That song is sounding perfect for the summer.

  14. Love this. It really is the theme of the whole album if it has one. I like the similar sentiments in Strange Days Are Here to Stay: “Well this is how the world will end, when superheroes play pretend.” And of course, the song Saviors itself. We need real heroes now more than ever, and all we have are fake ones in the movies.

  15. These are probably the best photos we have of the Nimrod tour guitars. Thank you so much for sharing these! Do you recall what magazine these came out of?

  16. I very rarely buy band stuff these days, but couldn't resist these photos from the Brixton and Milton Keynes shows on the American Idiot Tour. I'm a photography nerd (and Green Day photo nerd) despite my claims that doing photography for a living has made me hate it. Glad to support other British photographers too. Oh, and of course I printed some of my own photos for myself when I did the giveaway.

  18. That is a good plan. Depending on what time it ends, there might be buses from Rathfarnham/Dundrum running as well. There should also be shuttle buses from the venue, but you might have to wait. But like I said, apart from the concert crowds it's generally a quiet and safe area.
