If you want to remember the infamous cowbell performance (or see it for the first time), it's on YouTube. 16 years ago (2008), the Foxboro Hot Tubs played their second show in Crockett. I haven't got any photos, but fear not. There was a MySpace message from The Rev. "We took our rated pg 13 plus tax circus to sugartown california at a joint called Toots Tavern around the corner from tight wad hill run by the Gomez family. Pabst was flowin and everyone on some serious octane, baby! Sting!!!!" If you're enjoying The Rev's MySpace antics, keep your eyes on this thread, because there are more and they get weirder. Much weirder. 22 years ago (2002), Green Day played Orlando, FL on the Pop Disaster Tour. 26 years ago (1998), they played HFStival in DC. And 32 years ago (1992), they played the The Royal Albert Arms in Winnipeg, Canada on the Kerplunk Tour.

I was pretty surprised to hear they teamed up with Keurig. I've heard the company has been trying to work towards sustainability, but they're notoriously bad (both in waste and coffee taste 🤢) Honestly, this change sucks. Looking at their site their coffee is more expensive to buy and ship. I see they now require a minimum of 2 items per order for subscribers at 17.99. My Oakland Coffee subscription was just 15.99 for one bag of coffee every month. They must be joking. Guess my run with Green Day coffee is over.

I was in a rush for new music after the last few records, but right now I’m not even thinking about it. I think I was in a rush before because the music wasn’t as satisfactory. Saviors is so good that it’s quenching my thirst and I’m enjoying it still months later. It’s honestly a great record. I’ll always be excited for new Green Day, but this is a quality product that will keep me happy and satisfied for quite some time, I think.

What I always hate about these ''new album'' speculations is that they always start way too soon. They haven't even started the goddamn Saviors Tour and people are already guessing when's the next album coming out. It gives me the feeling that people never truly enjoy the albums they put out and get bored ridiculously easy. I for example have no desire for new Green Day songs right now, because the ones that they put out will easily carry over Saviors Tour and I can't get bored of most of the songs Saviors has. There can always be delays with albums that people don't consider. For example, I think it's time for The Coverups to release a cover album. Drain You definitely deserves a studio version and they could throw one-two Coverups exclusive songs there aswell. Then there is Foxboro that hasn't done anything since 2008 (assuming you don't count Dos! as second Foxboro album, 'cause I don't) and Longshot has been on pause for several years aswell. Green Day could also finally produce stripped down acoustic album, which Billie proved with his ''Welcome to my panic'' podcast episode that it could really work. They could also release B-side album again, with hopefully State of Shock getting better version and speaking of Trilogy, they wanted to put out some ''best of trilogy'' album. All in all, I hate new album speculations. This is not directed to one single person, just general statement.

I agree. We need to start speculating when the band is confirmed to be in the studio, that's how it was done with Saviors (then rumored to be named 1972).

It wasn't the band that cancelled in 2017, it was the promoters not getting the stage ready in time (and trying to blame the weather). It went fine in 2022, although it was painful getting back into town, nevermind Edinburgh, so I've booked those bus tickets in advance, despite having a bus pass.

I was looking back at some Hella Mega pictures the other day and was even a bit shocked how different and kind of "well" Billie looks now compared and I don't think I thought anything was different whilst Hella Mega was actually happening! If I did I've forgotten

I remember running out of work to catch the record store to buy 21 CBD and they were playing it, still love it so much.

I remember when I saw the May 15th release date was a Friday I thought it was so strange. Albums never came out on Friday! They came out on Tuesday! And now Friday release date is the standard. Green Day were ahead of the game!

I would agree that he has probably been writing songs. He said that he writes songs in daydreams, so he probably has had atleast a couple of them. I feel like the years between now and 2028 they will keep us calm by releasing more anniversaries with more demos/unheard tracks. Do you think they will release any singles in between now and 2028?

The reason playing the show has been questioned is authoritarian government enforcing religious laws/censorship laws as well as human rights issues in the country. Nobody has denied that the government and religious laws are Islamic, I don't understand what else you want. If you think the reason they shouldn't play there is just that it's a religious country then they shouldn't play the US or many others either.

I think what I’m struggling with is this: During the Saviors promo, it was brought up in multiple interviews how well they took care of Pansy Division in the 90s and refused to play venues that wouldn’t let Pansy Division play, too. They talked a lot about the values they learned at Gilman, primarily about equality. That means something to me and is a huge point of pride for me in being a fan, as are all their progressive views and actions. That might not factor into why others are a fan and that’s totally fine, but it does for me. It is hard for me to reconcile them refusing to play a venue that won’t let a queer band open for them with now playing in a destination where queer people cannot legally exist. No, citizens are not their government, but you could argue that back in the 90s, not all people they refused to play for were homophobic — the band refused in principle, I’m sure fully knowing that some good people were missing out on a show because of it. As @MillenniumFan pointed out in their very thoughtful post, this isn’t the first time they’ve played in a problematic place, and where to draw the line here is difficult. But right now, playing in Dubai just feels like a particularly poor and hypocritical choice.

This is admittedly a tricky matter, given how there are various degrees to this. They also played in Thailand and Venezuela in 2010, both authoritarian regimes at the time with a variety of human rights violations and press censorship to boast. In fact, if we go down that rabbit hole, the whole of South America is a bit tricky on that front. It's not just sun, cocktails and party beaches down there. Just look at abortion rights, political/gang violence, corruption etc. etc. I still think playing in South America is on the whole justified, but it's hard to decide where to draw the line. Granted, the state of the UAE is a particularly vile example of flagrant human rights violations, right up there with the likes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar (boo FIFA). It's unthinkable that we should still have countries in 2024 that allow for public executions, merely for one's sexuality, sometimes even by stoning, but here we are... I suppose the only worse optics the band could have achieved is by playing in Israel or Russia right now. But I agree, as a headline this makes me squirm, if nothing else. In general I'm honestly quite disgusted by how both oil-state airlines and Dubai are seemingly successfully marketing themselves to western holiday-goers. Under the glossy facade they're still horribly repressive and unequal regimes with few to no minority rights. Not to mention the absurdity of having a city with skyscrapers, huge swimming pools, artificial beaches and even an indoor skiing resort, erected in the middle of the Arabian desert, an area otherwise plagued by severe poverty, famine and drought. The old fishing village is actually quite interesting and has some history, but all the flashy bits built around it over the years, to attract business and tourists feel vapid and soulless, almost like a disneyland capitalist fever dream.

I don't. I have been to UAE several times from the 90s. The last time I was there was in 2017/2018. I see a huge difference and it's going in the right direction. Dubai is a huge city and is also different from other parts of UAE. If one part of the world doesn't get to experience music, movies, theatre etc from other countries I don't see anything positive about it. The reason for the changes that have been in UAE is due to the attention the country has gotten and hopefully that will continue. 🤞

I might actually make it to this one! On one hand, I don't want to go to Dubai because of all the human rights issues and censorship but if this is the only way after the COVID debacle, then I might try. Jan 27 seems like a good time and who knows maybe an Asian tour is on the cards as well? I will wait for a bit before booking the tickets.
