  1. Saviors… woah. This has everything. It’s a full on mix of Kerplunk!, Dookie, American Idiot, The Longshot, The Network, The Foxboro Hottubs, and These Paper Bullets. It’s as if Billie just thought “fuck it, I like all this kind of music, it can all be Green Day” and just did the best of what he does and put it through the Green Day filter. I was getting worried about them, I didn’t want to admit it, but I was, but this is it. This is it. Killer album with solid promotion. I don’t think they will have another world take over, but we here, as fans, have something to be happy about.

  2. Green Day from the beginning all the way to 21st Century Breakdown had such a good and natural evolution. Since then, I think they've struggled to follow up AI/21CB. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the trilogy and RevRad. Even FOAMF has its moments. But these albums either seem like albums that just try to combine old elements of previous albums and/or add some weird new additions that nobody really wanted But to me, Saviors is that album that really seems like it's the true follow up to that golden age era of Green Day. It takes elements from older albums but it's also very different for Green Day in a lot of ways that don't seem alienating or odd for people. It's like Green Day saw the main complaints for the last few projects (Trilogy: too much/production, RevRad: too safe/lack of experimentation, FOAMF: too short/too different) and Saviors is the logical conclusion you come away with. It's familiar enough that Green Day fans will like it but different enough that it's not just the same as what they've done before

  5. The amount of love that the bass has in this record is unbelievable. Now I want Insomniac remixed like this I need a few more days to digest this bag of feelings. I'm overwhelmed. Thanks Green Day

  6. Wow! I can’t speak highly enough of the record. Whatever happened with 1972 - the confusion and the supposed delay - it was well worth the wait. It was even worth suffering through the FOAM record and promotion cycle. This is a great Green Day record, a great rock and roll record, and I really think it’s going to blow a lot of your minds when you hear it for the first time. And please, do yourself a favor and do the album justice by listening through a good pair of headphones or speakers! The individual performances of each musician on the record are fantastic. It’s up there with some of Billie, Mike, and Tre’s very best. Taken together, as a cohesive package, this is a classic Green Day album - it sounds fresh and is a progression of their sound, yet is also mature and encapsulating of their decades-spanning discography (as others like @TJChrobo have said). The more I listen, the more subtleties I pick up on and the more amazed I am. Can’t wait for you all to hear it

  7. Goddamn this is all I want to listen to. It's very replay-able, even though it's a decent length.

  8. I just love seeing the same songs being mentioned as either the weakest or the best of the album 😂 really goes to show how diverse and amazing it is!

  10. At this point, it feels like he is unwilling to approach new Green Day music with an open mind. I think he has decided he doesn’t like them a long time ago and he’s not going to change his mind about it. So as far as I’m concerned, his opinion doesn’t really matter.

  12. I feel like this is the album finishes the job that they came up short on with the trilogy, revrad, and FOAM. Those albums (to me) sometimes felt like trying new things just cuz, meanwhile Saviors sounds like they are using their life’s work to put on a masterclass. For example, Strange Days sounds like a classic Green Day song, but that little guitar riff in the chorus screams The Longshot. It just feels complete and well thought out unlike the majority of everything post- 21CB. Not sure how well it will do commercially, if people will like it, or how it will age, but I think it’s great. Again all my opinions and I know there are differing opinions of this later stage of their career.

  14. And everyone forgets my favorite line and the last time he sang about his queerness in Troublemaker: “I wouldn’t say I’m straight cuz I’m bent out of shape.” Take it from another Gen Xer who’s been in an opposite sex marriage for thirty years but is still bi - it doesn’t matter who you’re married to, your sexuality doesn’t change.

The American Dream is Killing Me 6/10 Look Ma No Brains 6/10 Bobby Sox 1/10 One Eyed Bastard 7/10 Dilemma 9/10 1981 7/10 Goodnight Adeline 7/10 Coma City 5/10 Corvette Summer 9/10 Suzie Chapstick 10/10 Strange Days Are Here To Stay 8/10 Living in the 20s 10/10 Father to a Son 10/10 Saviors 7/10 Fancy Sauce 5/10 The Green Day songs, folks, some real winners like "Suzie Chapstick," "Living in the 20s," and "Father to a Son" – tremendous, perfect songs, just like me. Now, "Bobby Sox," I gotta be honest, not a fan of those lyrics, folks. I give it a 1/10. But overall, Green Day is doing a fantastic job, and we're making music great again!

  17. Crazy that we’re able to enjoy a great band for this many decades. They’ve taken good enough care of themselves (and maybe sold their souls) to still be at the top of their game 35 years later. So now instead of production being used as a crutch like a lot of bands 35+ years into their careers, we’re able to hear stunning talent and crisp production that sounds natural and perfect. I’m not a music historian by any means, but I know there can’t be many rock bands that have sounded this good for this long from a technical skill standpoint. Touring, screaming, drugs, alcohol etc. tend to wear rock artists down but I’m very thankful the guys seem to be ok.

  18. Okay first thoughts: - Bobby Sox is amazing, definitely one of my favorites. Guitar tone sounds delicious during the intro/verses and Screaming Billie is my favorite Billie alongside Blond Billie (and now he’s both!) - 1981 might be my favorite overall, the energy is simply unmatched - Fancy Sauce hits so hard, I love the yo-yo part so much! Wish the riff was kept acoustic though, I liked the teaser version better - Coma City is instrumentally amazing but I’m not a huge fan of the lyrics/singing. Hearing that bridge feels magical after all these months discussing teasers. That drum outro is out of this world. As far as individual performances go, I’d definitely put this record among their best - as much as I love them the past records sounded like the band was just there for Billie’s songs, whereas now it feels like they are all waaaay more present. This is Mike’s best record since fucking Warning!

  19. I got those first listen chills so many times during my first listen, beautiful record, beautiful songs and perfect production. Going back to work with Cavallo was such a perfect choice for these songs. I need way more listens but I can see several songs getting on my favorite list, but fuck me, Fancy Sauce really gave me those crazy chills and reminded me even if I didn’t need it why I love this band. Going back at it, I’m so happy they can manage to put out a record like this in 2024. So much love.

  20. the really funny thing about this record is that in 2020 BJ claimed that Father of All was something like a history of rock and roll in one album... In my opinion, 'Saviors' is the album where that statement really fits. So much different songs and vibes and a fantastic well produced piece ot art. It will be in the upper shelves of Green Day's catalogue for sure

  21. Another one! This is less of an interview and more like a bunch of statements/facts about himself. The revelation that he likes The Bachelor is rather amusing, but there's a bunch of good stuff here. 😆 https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/music/a45855813/billie-joe-armstrong-green-day-saviors/

  22. But Billie is Bi? And the song is clearly bi? and has said it on multiple occadions, including in the promo for this album? (And also is a proponent for lgbtq rights and has again said it at multiple times)

  24. Back when 1981 was played live, everyone thought nothing of it because it sounded generic and repetitive. Back then, I said multiple times that good production could really make that song great and I'm so glad I was right about that because 1981 is absolutely a highlight for me on the album and it seems that a lot of people consider it a highlight. The chorus is just a great catchy singalong but the verses sound really good on the album too and the song is short enough that the repetition doesn't get annoying

  27. I haven't finished to listen yet but I want to say that long and in-depth interviews like these are also interesting because we get to hear serious Tré. We're so used to his one-line jokes on the majority of interviews that when we get to hear him talking seriously we strange a little bit. Kudos to Howard for his knowledge on the band and shift his focus on Mike and Tré as well

  28. Haven't been on this forum since at least the RevRad days, glad to be back!! This is imo EASILY their best album since American Idiot. Legit feels like a culmination of all the sonic styles they've done over the years while still looking ahead and doing new stuff. Love it so much!

  30. Seems like such a weird issue to have with the album. Not only would that make it less of its own thing and just like it's trying to recreate Jesus of Suburbia. Yet again. But the songs stand on their own, they don't need to be combined to be "better" The only criticism for Corvette Summer that people seem to have is its repetitive chorus. But if that's literal the only issue, then I don't understand the complaint. It has a great hook, great production, great instrumentation and it's just a feel good song

  34. @DonaldTrump Most people accept coming out once as being openly LGBTQ+. Billie being married to a woman has nothing to do with who he's attracted to. A lot of people who are bisexual struggle to feel seen and validated in their sexuality because so many outsiders try to deny it the moment they end up in a straight-presenting relationship.

  35. Maybe read what he says about Bobby Sox here and just LGBTQ stuff in general https://www.them.us/story/green-days-billie-joe-says-the-moral-panic-around-trans-kids-is-fcking-closeminded?client_service_name=them.&client_service_id=31178&service_user_id=1.78e+16&supported_service_name=instagram_publishing&utm_medium=social&utm_social_type=owned&utm_brand=them&utm_source=instagram&utm_content=instagram-bio-link Being in a straight relationship doesn't make a bi person not bi anymore. Probably just official audio videos like for other album playlists (i.e. FOAM - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lTZkF634yieC7jy0R9w2XHN9jUZ6fw6ls)

  37. I just went out for a super quick coffee run and was like “maybe Green Day Radio will tell me more details while I’m driving!” Immediately, JOS comes on and I was like “god damn it.” There went my entire time in the car. 😆 Nice to hear JOS though.

  38. Fantano's going to hate this. Maybe not a zero like he did to FOAM....but he's going to really tear Saviors apart. I can hear him mocking the title now. "Saviors? Come on..." and then he'll talk about Green Day not being relevant, etc.

  44. So I was banned for 24 hours bc yesterday someone shared me a google drive file, and I was rick astleyed so basically they banned me for a fake leak 🤡 Suprisely, when I woke up early today someone had sent me through telegram all the album 👀 and my first impression was that just green day can call a song corvette summer and makes it sound like corvette summer. Bj voice in Living in the 20s and bobby sox are top notch 👌🏻 I love the oasis vibe in saviors(song) and I cried with Suzie chapstick and father to a son... ...and Fancy sauce just entered to my 15 green day songs of all time
