  1. In conversation with AltPress Editor-in-Chief Anna Zanes, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool unravel their expansive, almost maplike forthcoming album. Additionally, the trio talk about returning to the studio with Rob Cavallo, dusting off the Dookie 4-tracks, and reveal what’s kept them undefeated after all these years. “We’ve known each other for so long, and we started making a mess together at such a young age, and it’s just continued and evolved since then,” Armstrong says. “I think that’s really rare now. You realize, now, how grateful you are that you’re able to have that experience.” https://www.altpress.com/green-day-alternative-press-winter-2023-cover-announcement/?fbclid=IwAR3Lb5cdvST7jbc_5NV2kqSXw-hKzn0piQUZLAdT7cu_vtK0POwqAIJoVHk

  2. Really nice!!! But I miss better marketing, like going to TV shows, playing more places and stuff like that

  3. It certainly makes me want to hit the bottle when I hear it, but not because it’s a party album.

  4. They’ll do all that too! The album is still a ways out. Doing promo around Christmas is probably a bit tricky.

  5. I think something can be a fun party album while still being very dark. Dos and Stop Drop & Roll both have dark qualities to them. Songs like Lazy Bones and Amy really show that dark side of partying. Even Ashley does this, especially in verse 2 "I taste the cigarettes and liquor on your breath We used to call it speed, but now it's crystal meth Back when I loved you, but you're scaring me to death This careless memory, and now I could care less" Whereas on SD&R, 27th Ave. Shuffle is the most notable song as it deals with issues of alcohol/drugs and depression/suicide. I think that song is very well written. While FOAMF is not an album I enjoy for the most part, I think all of these "party" albums that they do are supposed to be dark and act as a sort of warning about what this kind of lifestyle can result in.

  6. I am 100% sure the next single is Dilemma via a source.

  7. So this album is three years old today!! Time flies

  8. I don't like that but will be impossible to not listen

  9. I hope so! With Bang Bang and the last time with Fathe of all, they played the lead single on TV shows and many other places before the album came out and I kind of miss that, but we'll see if they do more constant promotion in January.

  10. Looks like the physical edition isn’t shipping until January, so it’ll be a minute before we can read the interview. Love the cover, though!

  11. I think this is just part of the 1st wave of promotion for saviors, I believe there's gonna be cool live performances like I heart radio album premiere the late night show circuit like Kimmel colbert etc we will get our green day fix closer to when the album drops

  12. Annnnnd here goes all my money 🥺 Wow... actually nevermind. 20 bucks and that does NOT include shipping making it almost 30 bucks. For what? I would understand if this were a magazine from overseas but for me it's not. Screw that.

  15. I also wouldn’t call FOAM a fun party album, mostly because there is no consistent theme, or direction, or even tone. If I had to stretch, maybe decadence?

  16. Green Day were writing and recording a TON of stuff from 2001 to 2009. Cigarettes and Valentines, a dirty polka Christmas album, the earlier version of American Idiot before it became a Rock Opera...this is also when they met Fink probably began planning all the jokes about The Network and Green Day being the same people. So many entire albums left on the cutting room floor, but it was worth it. Imagine if we got Cigarettes, A Polka Christmas album and The Network allowed Green Day to release Money Money as Green Day. I would have loved it all, but you guys wouldn't have. I guess my point is all these are different albums. We could have gotten in all in addition to Idiot, but that would have been an overload. Idiot, Cigarettes, Polka, Stop Drop, Money Money and probably an entire besides collection from all those. Wild. Can we please change the name of this thread though? Had me freaking out this morning. I called the Fink-Fone and he's still in his underground bunker in Loch Ness. Sounded like he was welding a Trans am to a tarantula or something. I know a lot of famous people now. I am elite.

  17. Stay cool boys, there's no GD song in GTA game, would be sick but let's get back to reality I'm looking forward to an announcement soon bc in a couple of weeks will be Christmas time

  18. It would be great if a Green Day song goes into GTA 6. I love GTA and I really like that to happen. No more custom radios

  19. I think Good Riddance really needs to take a back seat. It has to be THE most overplayed Green Day song live and I'm tired of it as a closer. They should find something else to replace it, at least for a time, like they did with Brutal Love during the Trilogy.

  20. No, 2:43 is the length of Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards hype trailer

  21. Yes, which is why calling them "party albums" is an oversimiplification imo.

  22. Green Day and GTA VI don't fit together at all. Rap and Pop does.

  23. If Dilemma is the next single we’re going to know 5/7 songs on Side A.

  27. I think calling FOAM a "fun party album" doesn't really do it justice. I mean, I really wouldn't call any of the songs party songs, there's a darkness underneath all of them that I think elevates them beyond that. The only song that might fit that description is Meet Me on the Roof?

  28. I'm majorly fangirling over Billie's latest picture on his IG stories (the one by abaxley). I stared at it for like 5 mins straight. He looks SO gorgeous! 😍

  29. Oh, cool, a print magazine! *looks at price* I support physical print media in theory, not in practice.

  30. Thank you, what a great one! Also, has Billie ever done the false start with the F bomb while performing Good Riddance?

  31. Sadly all the physical copies i had left were destroyed in a fire, so the only place they still exist is possibly on ebay, and my head but it was a Casio keyboard generated record called "False sense of normalcy" it was a concept record about an alien named Albert that comes to earth singing songs of peace with a hidden agenda to steal souls to fuel his spaceship think david bowie meets the doors at cat steven's house have an orgy which results brings forth the most kick ass rock n roll baby to ever exist

  33. I imagine with today’s AI technology that’s no longer a problem. See the new Beatles track where they lifted John’s vocals off of an old cassette tape with piano. Still not sure if they want to bother to do it but it’s possible now.

  36. No that's for Geoff Keighley's Game Awards hype trailer. And the song he featured was a Radiohead song

  37. Some people are thinking maybe the 5th instead, the same day as the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer!!! They think the song could be featured in the trailer, which means it will be featured on a radio station in the game!!!!!

  38. Random Green Day thought just popped in there, like the Stay Puffed Marshmallow man. How about a youtube video about the fashion of Green Day? A look at each era, maybe ranking them from tackiest to classiest? Fashion Victim - Green Day!

  39. How did Green Day put it on the map? Ocean Way has been around since the 60’s Beach Boys Pet Sounds was famously recorded there California Dreamin was recorded there too In their heydays Rolling Stones Elvis Presley Elton John Frank Sinatra etc all recorded at Oceans Way it was a nice studio the Nashville location is still open

  40. Maybe Father to a Son will be a good one to release alongside the album when they’re in the thick of promo? Maybe it’s one that they’ll want to highlight when they perform on late night shows and stuff. I’ve really been wanting to hear Dilemma, so I’d love it if dropped soon.

  41. Thank you so much for doing this amazing project!!! The music video for "Walking Contradiction" was filmed in April 1996 and directed by Roman Coppola. Here is a very cool behind the scenes picture from Eddie Braun (who is the stuntman that did the insane car police jump in the video)! https://www.instagram.com/p/Cu7oRXHuGrX/ A very cool youtuber did a location video on the music video for "When I Come Around" 😃

  43. The last of the “party” records? I been reckonin, that ever since Stop Drop And Roll, every other album been a party album. Now see here tubbies=party 21cb=non party trilogy=party revrad=non party foam=party saviors=….???

  44. Yeah I don’t want them to feel forced to make a longer song, do what feels right. Do you all think stylistically this album will be like any prior ones? I’m thinking more of the diversity of nimrod?
    1 point
  45. Oh you're right! Hmm. But Brutal Love is 4:54 and Dropout is 4:41. So maybe? Just striking to me how some of them also ended up on Stop Drop and Roll. Also looks like Walk Away was a bit shorter then too, before it was re-recorded for Tre. With the Tre version clocking in at 3:45 and this version at 3:27.

  46. Hypothetically speaking. And I've always pondered this. If Money Money 2020 was originally Cigarettes and Valentines, just remixed for the Network, I wonder why the music was repurposed into such a concept..... 🤔 Maybe Warner Reprise told them "Well we contracted you for an album release this year anyway. You're not happy with the music you made as a band. But you have to release something though because we already paid you to make Cigarettes and Valentines. Why don't you take the tracks you recorded and just remix them as a side project concept? And start work on another one, the real new album, for next year in 2004?". Or perhaps the band themselves told Warner "Look we don't like what we recorded cause we don't feel like its 100 percent Green Day. We can release it but its gonna be something totally different."
