  1. Ok so yes now that the cat is FINALLY out of the bag, I was fortunate enough to be an extra in the video and the experience was f**king surreal and incredible all at once. (I don't appear to be readily visible in the video but I need to do a more thorough freeze framing to be sure 😅). A few personal highlights: -Arriving at the studio and seeing Tre right away chatting it up with someone in full zombie garb was an amazing preview of things to come -Many of us were in line for makeup as Billie, Mike, and Tre were just getting done with theirs (yes as zombies), and we gave a cheer/round of applause to the boys as they headed back to their dressing room. They seemed appreciative about the reception! -Arriving on set after a couple of hours of being in holding/makeup, I was blown away by the scale of everything. We were all gathered in front of the band's stage waiting for shooting to start, when they started playing TADIKM for the first (of many) times over the loudspeakers. It took me about 5 seconds after the chorus hit to realize "oh yes our boys are definitely back" and eventually many fans/extras were singing it in between takes. I also thought (and still think) this should be the tour opener as it fires up a crowd as good as anything. So yeah, it was a super fun experience and really felt like I was in a dream being in this zombie world with Green Day playing a brand new song on stage just in front of us over and over (for those who asked, no other songs were played). And the craft services/catering provided were very nice too!

  4. As read on another website “A coworker of mine who does security for industry events here in LA worked the Warner Records listening party for this album. He’s not a massive Green Day fan so he couldn’t remember all the song names but the one he said he could definitely remember was “Father To A Son”, which is apparently about Billie losing his dad at a young age and wanting to be the father he never had to his own kids, something along those lines. He said that song was particularly emotional and that everyone at the listening party was blown away by it. So if all this is true, I’m looking forward to that one for sure”

  5. I've been having a really rough time this month, and honestly this song release — and seeing the fandom/GDC so active again! — is just the shot of dopamine I needed. Thanks, Green Day.

  6. Maybe discussions like these are exactly the point of the cover photo. It's provocative and ignites conversations and people are learning history. History is fucking ugly. We shouldn't ignore it. Punk rock is political and provocative, or at least it should be. Good on them.

  9. Tower records in ireland have leaked the tracklist https://www.towerrecords.ie/product/GREENDAY_SAVIORS[INDIESPINK_BLACKVINYL]/950490 01 The American Dream is Killing Me 02 Look Ma, No Brains! 03 Bobby Sox 04 One Eyed Bastard 05 Dilemma 06 1981 07 Goodnight Adeline 08 Coma City 09 Corvette Summer 10 Suzie Chapstick 11 Strange Days Are Here to Stay 12 Living in the '20s 13 Father to a Son 14 Saviors 15 Fancy Sauce OVERVIEW Right from “The American Dream Is Killing Me†— the first single and opening track from Saviors, Green Day is sending out a fiery SOS for these troubled times. Amazingly, Saviors represents Green Days 14th studio album, yet somehow this enduring power trio -- Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool & Mike Dirnt -- remain devoted to their defiant craft that has fueled their career-long destruction of every boundary bestowed on the genre, and landed 3 East Bay punks in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. So even as the band acknowledges its illustrious past — such as with the 30th Anniversary of their now classic Dookie album and the 20th Anniversary of American Idiot coming 2024 — Green Day remains firmly focused on the here and now. Saviors features 15 tracks, and from the aforementioned opening track, "The American Dream Is Killing Me" to the blissfully ironic “Look Ma, No Brains!" to the fittingly emotional track, "Father To A Son,†this is a deeply felt song cycle that provides the soundtrack for our world on fire - the one we deserve, and the one that we need. The album was recorded in both London and Los Angeles under the audacious ear and rock prowess of Green Days longtime friend & collaborator, GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Rob Cavallo. Need a little inspiration to live on to fight the good fight another day? Fear not. Saviors is coming soon.

  11. I wonder if they are using the photo reference to make the point of governments that divide and conquer and the despair and violence that results. It’s not specific to the Troubles but it’s a symptom of a larger problem and one that leaders have done for centuries. We’re being divided up on cultural and political lines in a similar way as in NI over religion (or India or Rwanda or take your pick) and the video really shows that. That last image of the guy with the rifle shooting the woman (not a zombie) is really powerful. They’re making a broader statement of the way our leaders have divided us so they can stay in power.

  12. After the divisiveness of FOAM it’s such a pleasure that this song has united fans once again. I haven’t seen a single negative reaction. I’m sorry, but if you don’t like this song, you don’t like Green Day. This is as Green Day as it gets 🔥

  13. The single was one of the last to be written and recorded: According to the band, ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ was one of the last to be written and recorded for ‘Saviors’. “As soon we cut it, we said, ‘Okay, that’s going first,’” said Armstrong, who described the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people – in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.” https://www.nme.com/news/music/green-day-share-new-single-and-announce-album-saviors-preorder-3520437

  14. Literally started my car this morning and heard the last chorus of the song on the radio! I haven’t listened to anything but the teasers before that and the station played it a second time in a row! So my first time hearing it was on the radio! Old fashioned, I like it.

  17. Well I seriously think this is the best release since the AI/21CBD era. Production is on point! The energy is incredible. THANK YOU ROB CAVALLO WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!

  18. Rob Cavallo is simply the perfect producer for them, I think. The guy just intrinsically gets where they're coming from musically. This new single proves it. Thank God Butch Walker didn't come back, lol. Song is super catchy and keeps getting stuck in my head. Good stuff for sure.

  21. Okay, so time to speculate a bit about some of these tracks. One Eyed Bastard - Probably reworked to fit the sound of this album better? Cause the leak has major FOAM-y vibes what with the one-note piano in the background and the handclaps. Also the Pink riff might be changed. Still, I liked the song so I'm glad it's on the album. This xweet makes me think this album still has remnants of (what some believed to be) the original 1972 idea of celebrating Green Day's legacy, so maybe OEB is there to represent FOAM? 🤷‍♂️ Look Ma, No Brains clearly has elements of classic, late 90s Green Day for example. I wonder if Goodnight Adeline is that teaser with the acoustic guitar? Or maybe that was Father to a Son? And seeing as Saviors is the title track and the second-to-last song, could we be looking at another multi-parter anthem akin to the likes of JoS or Forever Now? 👀 Yeah I know, zero evidence of that but A MAN CAN DREAM OKAY? Not much to speculate just from the titles of the songs but goddammit I'm so excited for this new era that I can't help it! FIFTEEN SONGS, HELL YEAH

  23. Thank God this era is over. Everything from that time feels so fake and out of character. I'm so excited for the new release, but also a little bit anxious because it raises memories of the day we got FOAM. I remember how disappointed I was and I don't want to live through that again, lol. But I don't think we will.

  28. I think I'm alone on this train, but I love this cover, it gives me an IDLES feel. I thought the "Saviors" name was super cheesy, but this picture completely changes the meaning of that. They're challenging the use of the word savior, hence the use of (") in the name; it's ironic, it's ballsy, and unapologetically political. I'm very impressed they went with something so controversial for this. The only thing I would change is putting the black and pink filter they had been using on the lyrics sheet instead of the black and white, to make it a little more unique, but overall, this whole art direction has me even more hyped up. Welcome back boys!

  40. Well unlike a lot of y'all I was a good egg and waited for the official release to give the song a proper listen in full and I'm glad I did. I did peep the lyrics from the secret show and listen to the teasers on the website so I wasn't completely shocked but I wasn't disappointed either. The instruments all have weight and presence, the lyrics have a deeper meaning to be scrutinized, and the arrangement is interesting (I love how effortlessly the strings integrate into the rest of the song). There's clearly an element of tongue in cheek writing going on with lines like "Goddamn I am so grateful, forever faithful to... / Cracked up into the wild, we're pedophiles for the American Dream is killing me" highlighting the absurdity of America being in love with the concept of The American DreamTM that is slowly killing us. Also of note is that I think this is the band's first Dolby Atmos release and on my surround system it sounds great! The throat clear in the bridge came right through the center channel and gave me a bit of a jump. Bonus points for that. Overall I think it's a great way to kick off the new era. This is how it's done.
