  1. That’s the simple explanation. He even telegraphed this pretty clearly in the Beyond and Back podcast he did months before release when he talked extensively about the impulse to be creative and how he owes it to himself to try things and do whatever he wants and if that means he wants to sound like Rick James, that’s what he’s going to do. Sometimes you have to grow your own fucking rosebush (listen to it again, it makes sense now).

  2. Not only is the music good, but the promotion, marketing, and overall vibes around the band feels so much better than it has for the past decade. Feels like something changed internally after FOAM and some adults were finally put in charge. I still see that cringey "no Swedish songwriters" billboard posted online to this day. Crazy how poorly the band has been marketed since the trilogy days really.

  3. If you are in Vegas at the time of this post (Friday at 7:30 PM) there is a group of Zombies walking the stip handing out flyers and they have the vinyl as well. I got one. They were in front of Raising Canes at the time and were heading north from there.

  4. It's so confusing to me that they chose to release something like FOAM when they still had it in them to make songs like this. Like, it really shouldn't feel strange to hear a new Green Day song and think "omg it actually sounds like Green Day" but here we are ...

  5. This album is already reunifying our sweet little GD community! The kings have returned to reclaim the lost disciples that remained to tend their flames!

  6. Green Day is really strong on promotion holy shit. Nothing compared to FOAM and even RevRad

  9. I'm really glad they got Rob Cavallo back on this thing. The production sounds really nice already, at least from that reddit recording I've heard.

  10. Glad everyone is happy with the new material but I refuse to listen without a proper rip 😤.

  12. Yep, received coupons from McDonald's today. It said on the top "The American Dream is Feeding Me." ....what a bunch of sell outs.

  18. I think they just wanted to flex their creative muscles and see how far they could take it. Having done that, satisfied, they have returned to us. Anyone else getting Cheap Trick vibes from LMNB? Fast power pop is my favorite Green Day 💚

  21. After having such “meh” reactions to pretty much every lead single from the Trilogy forward (minus Bang Bang but didn’t care for the other RevRad singles), I have to say this is the most excited I’ve been. These two songs rock and even from a phone recording of a record player feel energetic and dynamic. No more partying lyrics helps too.

  22. Waking up this morning with a big smile. Damn I love this band.

  23. Man, all these positive reactions make it hard for me not to listen to the songs. I’ll wait for the official release though. I honestly can’t remember the last time a new Green Day song gut such a positive response. I really hope that that’s a good sign for the album.

  24. Got two points: - The drive to be creative and experimental always has been a staple in Green Day's career. They know the band is more like a brand than a band these days. Even in a style like they do, where the songs have little orchestration and "complexity", there are a lot of angles to be creative. If they had choosen to replicate their formula at all times, all the time, they would be in a place where all the other bands of their style are. The main point of being an artist, is to share your vision at certain point, not to please someone else. If you like, you stay, if you don't, then go somewhere else. - One of the mainstays is the record production. Discarding the first two records, every Green Day record has a distinctive sound, that helps the songs to stand on their own, even if the arrangements, riffs, chords and beats are quite similar. But not only helps the present to differentiate from the past, it also does help the future releases too, because it creates that reaction you guys are currently experiencing right now. Is a risky, but a well thought process. It gives extra value to their craft. You wouldn't be that impressed of the new song if FOAM wasn't the way it is. Enjoy the ride

  28. Yeah but come on. If Mcdonalds announced a bunch of Green Day toys in the happy meal, you'd be sitting your happy butt under the golden arches eating nuggets and playing with Billie Joe. But not the first time. You'd get 4 or 5 Tre Cools. Then 2 Mike Dirnts. Then finally, a Billie to play with.

  30. Pop Disaster Tour 2: Album Release Version Yeah I agree. There’s really been NO promotion since early trilogy days. I didn’t agree with the early promos for Uno, what’s with all the early morning shows? We don’t need GMA performances we need late night shows. I’m up at midnight not 7 am 😂 I’m curious to know if anyone at the label handles any business and marketing analytics for the band after such performances and campaigns. Honestly, I’m qualified and would love to be the dude that tells Marketing that it’s a bad idea. but so far it’s been really good. Everyone is comparing it to 21cb and I get they’re trying to convey the quality of the release as a whole. However, this era will stand on its own. For those that are younger who missed out on the AI and 21cb releases this one is for you. Enjoy it. I have a feeling the band will be somewhat of a big deal again for a while. Hearts Collide and Lights Out as well. Great songs but didnt match the flow of the record. I like the Bside it rocks

  32. I’m still hoping this is just a small summer leg of the tour and they will still do a tour of their own in the other seasons. It could happen 🤷

  33. Wow I’m so stoked, two amazing songs, can’t wait to hear them in high quality ❤️ LMNB sounds like such a classic Green Day piece in the best possible way, so fucking hyped for this record. And the promotion so far, just wow. Great to see this community united around this release as well, missed this vibe so much ❤️ Plot twist when it comes to 1981, the character is she-zombie banging her hear head I guess 😂

  36. Not a fan at all of the Smashing Pumpkins (well, mostly just Billy Corgan). I guess I'll use their set time to visit the concession and merch stands. What an odd touring partner for GD. Never would have thought to pair them together.

  37. Why? If it's good enough to be on the album, put it on the album. It's not going to get listened to otherwise.
